Tower Speakers - Budget increased

I second that.
Seriously...that is not the kind of money with which you should be looking at towers. No way will you be satisfied!!! You might be satisfied 'at the moment of it', but you are highly likely to back shopping soon for want of better. You can do pretty well with a BS instead, for that money. To get hold of a decent entry level FS which delivers really good quality music...that keeps you happy for a long while...you shd have a budget of *at least* 50K for the towers alone, in fact a bit more can fetch you much better. Anything lesser for towers, you wud be left lacking. Again, it might sound good initially, but you will get a 'hollow feeling' after a few weeks. We humans have a short acoustic memory, so everything comparable to some extend tends to sound good to some extend. But when you listen to them for prolonged periods, one can start to sense if it is lacking or not. Buy a good pair of front speakers, and you might not shop again for fronts for 15-20 years (even higher if you can maintain it well..unless you are an audioholic or spendthrift).

Few questions you shd ask yourself is,
1. What is the price to performance that you achieve. Is it worth to spend 'X' to achieve 'Y'?
2. Do you have an audioholic ear, that helps you notice the small differences in some speakers. Wud you be so particular about little differences? If not you might need to consider 'point (1)' even more carefully.
3. Do you need to listen to dealers and their suggestions, whose job is to sell. They might sound very convincing. But look at it again from perspective of (1).
4. Should you blindly take advice from people about 'which speakers'? Consult multiple forums and from different places to have a better and more reliable idea, not that one forum wont be reliable. It need not be always reliable.

When there is this urge to buy something once & you feel like buying it, will be very difficult to go back. You should take some time, save up. Buy a good pair of fronts and expand slowly if you desire to, but dont compromise on quality. You could be back shopping no time spending more money. Also 50K or so is a lot of money. Spend it carefully. Dont get carried away by what you read. Ppl will always tend to give you advice like this is a good choice or that is great stuff (Which is not be a bad thing from their perspective). Also, if you observe a lotta people tend to say in an implicit if not explicit way that... 'my stuff is good', and 'the other ones are okie'. But when they are back shopping for new stuff, their good stuff is not so gud suddenly..anymore :).
One also tends to hear positive stuff more often than not, and tend to ignore negative comments unless it is big and explicit kinds.
Most guys wud not want to admit that they feel something is lacking with their stuff while they actually feel it is lacking in the corner of their mind. It takes time until they decide to shop, and then you hear 'this and that is lacking' or 'I want better now'. Why would you go for in search of better if you were happy in the first place. :D The thought of buying something wud not even cross their busy minds unless it is lacking or they just realized it is lacking :).
...and am sure you know this pretty well by your own experience. Question is, have you observed it until now ;)

I hear you loud and clear and thank you for your inputs. I am going to read this over and over again to keep it fresh in my mind before taking any decision :ohyeah:

To the rest of the wonderful folks on this forum keep them coming. I guess we all need a little shake up from time to time to curb our impulsive buying (Let me be the first one to admit this)

HFV ROCKS:clapping:

Friends I was just wondering what if I retain my HK 133 AVR and get a power amp and a set of Good Tower speakers would that make a difference?

Please advise :)

Kittu,

What do I need to look out for to see if any provisions are there to connect a Power /integrated amp

Kittu,

Just checked it has preout only for DVD and subwoofer :(

Hi Friends just wanted to know if I would be able to use the DVD preout output as a preout connection to my integrated amplifier or would i need a dedicated amplifier preout?

Please advise

Auditioned Monitor and Mordaunt Short speakers at Audio Planet today. Mr Pilani was very knowledgeable and helpful but I guess I need to make some more visits to get the rapport built up

Monitor M4 speakers- sounded very crisp and clear blew Carnival 8 away and out of my list Was quoted 26K for M4 and 36K for M6 - Question are the M series still under production?

Monitor RX6 (silver Series) sounded out of the world when compared to the Mordaunt Short Aviano speakers. Was quoted 82K for them and me thinks this is on the higher side
Can anyone help me with the RX 6 prices

Its getting more complicated than I thought lets see how things progress Still have to reaudition the Polk RTA7 and TSi 500

Friends auditioned AE/ELAC/Klipsch F3Polk RTI A7/KefQ700/Focal Chorus 726V -

These speakers were driven by Onkyo amp

Klipsch F3 - I just didnt like the sound of these speakers maybe my expectations were sky high reading all the reviews

AE/ ElAC - Good speakers but I have heard better - (These is my personal opinion)

These speakers were driven by Denon 2311 -

Polk RTi A7 - Sounded better then the last time I heard them Tight Bass and sounded brighter - Add the Polk DSW Pro 660 to the set up and you are ready for a real blast

Kef Q700 - Sounded good but lacked the oommph factor when compared to the RTI A7/Focal did it need more power? not sure

Focal 726 V + Denon 2311 - made for each other. Sounded classy the bass was not overpowering the over all music, Was very expressive and detailed

Need to audition RTi9 500/TSi 500 before i take the pick between Monitor RX6/Focal 726V/and the Polk brothers :)

How would Emotiva UMC-1 sound better than Denon 2311? I plan to pick up the XPA 5 in the near future

Iaudio,

Thank you for the link

Kittu,

you are bang on - Will listen to EPOS M16i and M22i speakers. Any place you can recommend to audition these speakers?

I am starting from scratch and will pick up the Tower speakers, AVR Power Amp in that order

I have set my sight on UMC - 1 and XPA 5 but also looking at Denon 2311. I am in no hurry to get things set up and will work according to my budget as and when it is available.

Wondering if I should go in for the UMC 1 in place of the Denon 2311 (Denon 2311 has the pre out for the amp so that wont be a issue going forward but 1911 does not) your valuable suggestions are most welcome.
I wanted to spend just enough on the AVR to get good picture quality and then get a high end amp to drive the towers and center and use the AVR for the surrounds. A sub is last on my list

In my journey of learning and auditioning audio equipment I must say that I have come across various dealers/sellers who treat you differently based on your knowledge/Dressing style etc ... Some dont even want to show you the high end stuff because they think you cant afford it .. I have experienced it and have seen others getting treated in the same way - Its a pity but then what the heck. Its a buyers market :) You buy stuff where you get the best deal and service

Need help on making the final decision on FS speakers. Between the following

Focal 726V
Polk RTi A9/A7
Polk TSi 500

Will be driving these with Denon 2311 which I have also shortlisted.

Please provide your valuable inputs

Just got on to this thread today.
Have you checked out the range of Klipsch towers. The New Synergy range is quite something in the budget you mentioned.
