Videocon D2H HD No 5.1 Sound

The real 5.1 sound effect is missing when using RCA Cable (I tried a thick RCA cable used for connecting sub-woofer & also a normal yellow RCA). No sound from Centre channel and surround effect is missing. Only when I connect the AVR with Coaxial Cable from STB (I use Belkin make), the real DD surround with clear voice in centre channel is coming !

Though the connectors are same, I think the transmission of signal is different!

Don't worry. If you have any component cable (which is bunch of three cables, 1 yellow - dedicated for video and 2 audio - red & white) or a normal video cable (yellow) then just plug your SPDIF (out of d2h) with ONKYO's coaxial input by that yellow one.

Videocon HD box setting:
Menu > Setup > Installation > code 1234 > Box Setting > TV Settings > Audio Output > Home Cinema.

Enjoy Dolby Digital Audio for selected HD Channels through your HT.

Note: In this set up normally you will not get any audio from your TV speaker when the channels having DD audio are running.
To get audio through TV speaker:
press Info > Yellow button > Change English (default) Dolby Digital 2/2 to English (default) 1/2.
dear friend i have connected STB WITH ht with yellow cable and its showing dolby sign also in ht display on selected channels i.e. sony, star movies etc but i m not able to get dolby sound quality. i have changed setting as u suggested in stb also. please suggest

Dear Prinkkaadi, When your HT is showing DD sign then there is no doubt that it is receiving Dolby Digital data from Satellite box.
However, if the audio track of a programme or movie is not be recorded with 5.1 channel separation then no broadcaster can transmit it with 5.1 audio. 'Dolby Digital' does not mean 5.1 audio streaming, it is the name for audio compression technologies developed by Dolby Laboratories and it enables up to 5.1-channel surround sound for an enveloping audio experience.
You will get discrete 5.1 channel separation when the audio track of movies or the programmes which have been encoded in 5.1 Dolby Digital audio are transmitted.

As mentioned, else where on this forum, D2H HD doesn't have 5.1 sound as I have it connected to my Onkyo 6505 receiver via HDMI.

However, I was hoping if any one can solve my problem. I want to use my ONKYO remote to control the D2H receiver but I cant find the remote control code. I have already programmed my Samsung Plasma on to the Onkyo remote. Would apprecite any help in this matter!

Cheers!

Will try for sure but the D2H receiver doesn't have an optical out! should i try the coaxial output to my Onkyo receiver?

If you have new d2h DVR 500GB then it must have an optical audio output along with coaxial. Otherwise all d2h HD satellite box have coaxial audio output.
However, audio quality does not differ whether it passes through an optical or coaxial cable, both delivers digital audio data.

My D2H receiver doesn't have a optical out. Should a coaxial cable is to be used from Spdif out through to the receiver?

Does dolby digital also sounds better from tv speakers than normal stereo ? If it is how can I connect spdif from d2h hd box to my tv ?

^^ It is not possible to connect spdif to TV unless your TV has spdif input. There won't be any change in audio quality as you are already getting digital audio through hdmi. If you want to get good sound, invets in a good HTIB or SoundBar.

I just purchased a Videocon d2h HD DVR 500GB. It is delivering 1080p and the picture quality is far better than d2h HD zapper (I compared with my existing HD zapper side by side).
But, d2h HD DVR 500GB is not delivering Dolby Digital 5.1 neither through optical/coaxial output nor through HDMI (ARC) whereas d2h HD zapper delivers Dolby Digital 5.1 properly. However, I informed Videocon by mail, they immediately called me and after a long detail queries regarding the problem they took one hour, after one hour they admitted the problem with their new d2h HD DVR 500GB product and thanked me for identifying the problem. They assured me that they are going to solve the problem of their new DVR by upgrading the software within a few days.

^^ Did you try by connecting HDMI cable directly to AVR? ARC in many case will not support 5.1 audio. In previous pages somebody posted that D2H HD DVR ouputs 5.1 through hdmi and not through SPDIF.

Yes, a tried all possible connections Optical, coaxial and HDMI (ARC). Even a Senior Tech from Videocon came at my home gathering a lot of knowledge about Onkyo HT (which one I am using) and admitted the problem.
