Videocon HD DTH VS Airtel HD DTH

I am planning to go with Airtel HD for better picture quality as you guys are saying here. However the way they have the packages is a bit confusing for me, when compared to Videocon.

When I take the connection I would go with Rs.1950 package which gives the HD STB and 2 months free subscription of 'South Ultra Pack'@Rs.650/month. I want to add a chota pack 'Hollywood HD top up'@Rs.60/month. So that means for the first 2 months I need to pay 60/-.

After the first 2 months can I just subscribe to South Super Value [email protected]/month plus Hollywood HD top [email protected]/month, so that my monthly expense is Rs. 245 from then on?

Yes, your understanding is correct.
 
Even the pricing details are very confusing for Airtel or may be I am missing something.

In airtel for 8590/- I get the HD Recorder STB with installation and 12 months free subscription of189 Channels (ROI) and 18 HD channels. :)

In Videocon, for 6240/- I get 12 months subscription (+40 days) for Platinum HD pack of 417 channels and 22 Asli HD channels. However, I need to payRs 6990/- for the STB and installation thus amounting to a total of Rs 13230/-. Thats a difference of more than 4500/-.

Whats the catch?
 
I have an Airtel HD STB. Is there an option to upgrade to HD recorder STB or do I need to buy it as new again?

You are confused on the D2H packages.

1. The 6240 package is for recharge for 12 months, which you can do any time.
2. The 6990 (or 6660 for South) is the Installation + Annual Package rate for the first time buyers. This is not the installation rate alone. This includes HD STB, installation, and 1-year Platinum HD pack.

Hope this clears the doubt.

No, It has further confused me. You mean to say that if I pay Rs 6990/- for D2H then I get the HD STB, installation, and 1-year Platinum HD pack?

For a similar thing in Airtel I pay 8590/- and Rs 14,000/- in Tata Sky HD+. Some how things are not adding up.

In any case, there is no mention anywhere about one year free Platinum HD Pack in the cost of 6990/-

Correct. This is what I mean.

These are DVR boxes, right? The DVR box rate for D2H is 7250, w/o any pack, just box+installation.

The 6980 rate for normal HD box (w/ USB recording facility, but this is not DVR), is with "Platinum HD Pack Annual Offer". Check the link below.

Ok. I think I could not explain myself clearly. My requirement is that I require a HD STB with recording facility with 6/12 months subscription.

The requirement works out as under:-

Tata Sky HD Plus
-STB : 7000
-Pack :7000 (12 months)
-Total : 14000/- 12months

Videocon HD DVR
-STB HD DVR : 6990/-
- Package Platinum HD : 6240 (12 months) +40 Days
-Total : 13230/- (12months +40 Days)

Airtel DTH HD Recorder
-STB and Package : 8590/- (12 months)

So, new HD STB with recording facility and package with 12 months subscription is much cheaper for Airtel i.e. what I am asking. ;)

Mind that Airtel is not offering a DVR like TS+ and Videocon its just a normal HD box on which you can record through USB stick or HDD. In my sense its not convenient enough as you can't see one channel and record another.

I guess people are not able to digest that there is a massive difference in the price. I wish you had checked up before making a comment as these comments mislead people. Here are the features:-

airtel DTH HD Recorder Features |High Definition Recording, 3D, Mobile Recording

It has 500 GB fixed HDD. You can indeed see one channel and record another.
 
Anyone upgraded Airtel HD STB to HD recorder STB? Is the price same as for new STB recorder or is there any discount if upgraded from HD to HD recorder?
 
Hi Folks!

Finally bought Airtel HD DVR for Rs 8590/- to include the STB, accessories, installation and 12 months free subscription. The package works out much cheaper than others.

The STB was installed in five days due to NA of HD DVR STB and elections in the area. Customer service during the time was just about bearable.

PQ : 8/10, Tata Sky (earlier STB) : 9.5/10

SQ : 8/10, Tata Sky : 9/10

I am using the STB on my 42" Panasonic Plasma. The PQ difference from Tata Sky is not as noticeable as it might seem.

My hd dvr Airtel just updated to ver.503
Now it has option of 5.1 DD over HDMI along with SPDIF.
You can set priorities for both differently for HDMI & sPDIF. Good.
 
There are conflicting opinions here. I want to get STB with the best and max good HD and 3D channels? What should I get? VD2H or Airtel? Or Tatasky?

Oh thank god i posted in this thread. I was so confused I just dumped the whole thing. You changed my mind 2 mins ago. How to make sure that the box u said is included in the package? I will go for the full HD/3D pack.
