Videocon HD DTH VS Airtel HD DTH

Oh thank god i posted in this thread. I was so confused I just dumped the whole thing. You changed my mind 2 mins ago. How to make sure that the box u said is included in the package? I will go for the full HD/3D pack.
The 3D STB model may be different. Just call the customer support and check. Actually even CS did not know about the new models it was a last minute surprise during installation. But now that we know there is a new model you should tell CS to doublecheck. On my call I made some noise about wanting to buy but doubting the poor reports of the STB performance. Maybe the call was reviewed and the new model arranged.
How is https://www.komparify.com to buy the whole thing. I am about to get videocon d2h
Don't buy from 3rd party. They may be pushing old stock stbs. When Vd2h is so responsive why deal with a potentially unknown entity regarding support?

Thing with getting it from videocon is no COD option. Once they get the money they just get arrogant.

I just called them twice. Both reps had no idea about 2244 STB (as stated by you) what if they come up with 2222 at my place? Airtel also has 3D now. Is videocon that good?
You should tell the installation guy when he calls for address and appointment. The 3D STB maybe in the 555 series btw.

Don't give importance to 3d. It is just an hd channel showing 3d in side by side format. This does not need any 3d hardware. Any hd stb will support this format. The stb won't output 3d, you have to manually select the 3d format in the tv as sbs. Also, the 3d channel has only a few nat geo documentaries which is repeated.

So even better than 2244? :p

Thanks man :)

Thanks. Got the 2244F and its up n running nicely. Honestly I think Airtel HD is way better. I am comparing Airtel HD on a 32" LCD VS Videocon D2H HD on my 42" LED!
EDIT: Maybe I was standing too close to the TV. Will update tomorrow.
I dunno if its better... You thinking too much, just go for it and sit back to enjoy.

The 2244 box comes with a RF remote or a regular IR remote. I have not upgraded my HD box because of this reason as the RF does not work with my Logitech harmony. I have the white color add-on connection box which is white in color for my bedroom which came with RF remote. But my living room I am still using the old black box even though it does not work properly just for the sake of Harmony remote compatibility.

Ok thanks then in that case I have to still be away from the 2244. Lets see how long does the 4 yr old black box works in this way.

The only channel I liked in the entire rs. 550 platinum HD pack is comedy central! :yahoo: and will downgrade to it later.... :ohyeah:

I'm thinking of moving away from TSky and hence started looking around. I see Videocon has come as the most vfm here and Airtel, even with slightly better pq should be avoided due to customer care. Have you guys ever done the PQ comparision with Tsky? I was just wondering if I should pay almost 7K for the d2H DVR + another 6K or so for annual package! While I have the first generation TSky HD+ stb which I don't know what to do with once I'm moved to other provider.
Thank you.

Ketan, is it due to cost that you move away from TSky or the service/CC is getting worse?
I am planning to move from Airtel to Tatasky as the signal quality of Airtel at my house is low.Multiple service engineers tried allignment ,but no use.So thought of trying Tsky.

So far videocon d2h was total value for money. But now it looks like tables have turned. I am planning to switch over to HD dth (from my reliance SD dth) and was comparing Airtel vs Videocon.

Videocon d2h:

HD DVR + 1 year HD pack (south platinum HD) costs 12690 Rs.
HD DVR + 1 month HD pack (new south platinum HD) costs 7460 Rs.
12 month HD pack (new south platinum HD) costs 6840 Rs.

Airtel:

HD DVR + 2 month HD pack (south mega) costs 4990 Rs.
12 month HD pack (south magnum HD) costs 6502 Rs.

Both give all HD channels which I want (I do not need Sun HD channels).

Do you think it is wiser to go for Airtel instead of Videocon? Heard Airtel HD pic quality is better than Videocon. Kindly someone confirm.
Which one has better Customer Care? and better performance under rain?

Thank you guys

Videocon's CC is decent, nothing out of the ordinary. They do respond quickly and address issues raised.

STB signal vanished during the recent rains in BLR but came back once the rain passed. I have seen posts from FM's that the larger dish (60" or so) does not have this problem, but you might have to request for that size specifically.

Can't compare with Airtel since I haven't used them, but have seen posts on the Internet that their D2H CC is worse than their Broadband CC which says a lot.

HD quality is good, but again unable to compare with TS or Airtel since I haven't used either of them.

The RF remote on the STB is hell, but you get used to it after a while with a lot of cursing.
