Hi Guys,
I have Sony 40 inch LED and i want to buy HD DTH. i have sorted out Videocon and Airtel but now i am confused which one to buy.
I read that videocon is not good for large led like for 40 inch and also the sound quality is not as good also they have only 10 true HD channels as what their cc told me.
Other then videocon and airtel is there any other choice with good PQ and SQ specially in dolby 5.1 or 7.1.
Please suggest.

I'm using videocon d2h hd, it is the best vfm available now in India.Who said only 10 channels total 22 hd channels are there most of them are dolby digitals.Airtel and Tatasky lootmar hd dth.Even if u use projector also, hd will be good for viewing.where you read that videocon is not good for large led tvs that too 40 inchers.other hd dth will eat your money.

In some of review from some user, that was using 32 inch and said that in large led, picture quality is not good.
i talked to Videocon customer care and person over there said me that they have only 10 HD channels having 5.1 audio and rest other HD channels doesn't have.
Are you using dth on large led?

Videocon HD picture quality is quite good in my 40" LED, but don't expect quality similar to blu-ray discs or even a 2GB 720p rip. All the hd channels are true hd channels, however some contents like a few Hindi movies are upscaled from SD.

but i have heard that Airtel is having good picture and audio quality in compared to videocon.?. is that true.. Anyone using airtel HD dth?

i can see many rumors for Videocon, if you want more HD thats the only VFM choice.
if you connect stb to AVR the sound quality will almost same across all DTH, and all HD channel comes with max 5.1 audio, no 7.1 telecast in India yet.
tata is biggest chor followed by airtel avoid those.
as baijuxavior said above & sm_vlr is using videocon in his 55" TV i never noticed him complaining him about PQ.

You can check the link in my signature, or get in touch with him.

How can you say that netant/biaju/subbubusk that they are providing DD 5.1 on HD channels. as i talked to their customer care and as per them they are not providing 5.1 DD.

First of all most of customer care persons are dumbo , don't know what is dolby digital. If you are videocon d2h hater, we dont recomend you to buy this.We experience some good things on videocon d2h hd , we want to pass on the goodies to others that's all. Neither we are here working for videocon to promote it,nor we are to prove how we get dolby 5.1 .Go to chors Airtel and Tatasky. After 6 mons or 1 year again come here to the same forum and asking the same ques which hd is good? Read the Forum so many threads of Videoconhd

but i have heard that Airtel is having good picture and audio quality in compared to videocon.?. is that true.. Anyone using airtel HD dth?

I'm using Airtel HD DTH connection... and I think Picture quality of HD channels (if we compare bit rate) seem to be slightly better than Videocon. and I can bet that quality of SD channels is very good in Airtel DTH (Not much compression artifacts and unnecessary edge-enhancement by the DTH provider).

However, still.... I would advise you NOT to take Airtel.
Videcon D2H is also as good as Airtel DTH in terms of quality... but the biggest difference is that D2H has channel packages much cheaper than Airtel.
And from my experience, I can say Airtel is the worst company in the world when it comes to customer services. If you get a slight problem with your connection STB etc., Airtel will not leave a chance to screw and piss you with all their nonsense!!! That's why Videocon D2H is far better than Airtel, if we consider peace of mind an important thing in life.
(In my case, I'm now familiar with all the technical faults of Airtel DTH, so I hardly gets any problems with my connection, hence still continuing with Airtel.)

So, buy Videocon D2H and enjoy :)

exactly, SaSem has himself proved this in his first post when the CC told him that they has only 10 true HD channels

im in same boat, i use TATA, wanted to switch to videocon just for number of HD channels, but its not possible in my place due to sight of sky issue, we have a huge TS disk fitted on top of building.

many people will say pq of SD are better in TS compared to other dth but i have stopped watching sd channels :)

What more proof you need other than our practical experience? Most probably the CC people is talking about 5.1 analog out which no stb has. DD is available in select HD channels, you need a home theater system that can take hdmi or coaxial inputs and which can decode DD.

I migrated from airtel to videocon . I must say that i am happy with my decision . Main reason being the CC of Airtel that to in a metro like Mumbai . I am using videocon from past 7 months and had minor problems twice once with remote and then with the setup box . Both complaints solved within 2 days and within warranty ie. got the remote and box replaced .

And I hear that videocon settop box offers inbuilt 50hz to 60hz converter.
And a pal to ntsc.
I feel that one has the option to try the 60hz setting to check if picture quality improves. Usually tvs have a major headache dealing 50hz content.

I have had previous experience of using Tata sky, airtel and Big TV. For me Videocon is the best of all. But still I am not getting 5.1 sound through HDMI. I am using SPDIF cable and I am happy with it.
When I have called the CC guys, their response was like firm ware will be upgraded serial number wise and 1 day I would receive the request for the upgrade. They will not do that remotely they say. I am not sure how to go about it. Since it it is obvious that a firmware upgrade will give dolby audio through hdmi.
Can some one suggest on how could I get my firmware upgraded. That would be a great help.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

I find it very strange that the customer care told you that firmware will be upgraded serial no wise. It makes sense only if the hardware also needs a replacement .
Suggest that you call up again and insist on escalating your issue of not getting 5.1out from HDMI

Hi guys,
I have subscribed both Videocon D2h & ADTV..
Here is my comparison of both on personal experience only on latest Samsung 50 inch 3D LED & 5.1 Home Theatre basis. I am not in favour or against anyone but comparison.
Pls suggest if mistaken.

1) Picture Quality
Videocon D2h
8/10 for HD & 7/10 for SD 23 HD channels for Rest of India
Airtel Digital TV
9.5/10 for HD & 8/10 for SD HD channels are much sharper, more contrast & looks like actual FULL HD than d2h if you observe thoroughly. Otherwise not noticeable for normal viewer.
19 HD channels for Rest of India

2) Audio Quality
D2H
5.1 Through HDMI true 5.1 on HT for few 10 HD channels, otherwise normal. 5.1 audio is loud while normal audio is very low compare to 5.1. Through optical SPDIF on HT.
ADTV
5.1 for few HD channels while normal audio but all channel audio is on same level no up & down like d2h.

3)User Interface
D2H
Slow & sluggish UI. Time to switch channel is more compare to ADTV.
ADTV
Very smooth, easy & fast UI. Time to switch channel is less compare to D2H.

4)Hardware
D2H
Cheap hardware feel, STB hangs & restarts automatically sometimes after replacing new also.
ADTV
Good hardware No issue.

5)Remote
D2H
RF remote no need to point like IR but feels sometime have to press hard to change the channels & sometimes channels skipped if press hard. Have to deal with 2 Remotes.
ADTV
Universal Remote for STB & TV so have the convenience of only 1 remote operation which is important if you are having multiple A/V devices.

6)Package Cost
D2H
Rs 481 for ALL HD SD channels. Premium package. Truly best value for money package in market
ADTV
Rs 525 Mega Pack little costlier than D2H.

7)Customer Care
D2h
Very good as per my experience quick field engineer support & understandable,
ADTV
Very good as per my experience quick field engineer support & understandable,

8)
D2H
3D content One 3D demo like NGC Channel but not impressive.
ADTV
No 3D content yet.

9)Conclusion
D2H
BEST VFM in market if you are not so concerned of best PQ.
ADTV
Overall Very good Package in terms of hardware, software & channels & definitely noticeable superior Picture quality than d2h.

Thanks for the info. Will be getting Videocon soon but I wonder what to watch on TV. Most of the shiz they show is crap.
