I know it is a very old topic and the same has been discussed over this forum but I am really clueless and need urgent guidance from the forum members. I am in a big dilemma of choosing Wharfedale 9.2s over 8.2s.

I had almost made up my mind for buying the Wharfedale 9.2 when I got offered this deal of a used Wharfedale 8.2 at a decent price.
I was getting a new pair of 9.2s in less than 14k from Pune. I think this is the cheapest price for the 9.2s till now. But the used 8.2s can be owned for 8k only (including shipping).
So, my confusion is, should I sacrifice the deeper bass of the 9.2s over the price saving I'll be doing if I buy 8.2s? Forum members please help me out.
Is the sound output of 8.2s is so bad over the 9.2s, so that I should completely overlook the price advantage offered by the used 8.2s?
The specs for both the speakers looks the same on the paper.

I am really in need of some help from those who have auditioned both 9.2s and 8.2s.
Need to make a buying descision very soon. :confused::sos:

Hi! If you decide to go for the 9.2, can you tell me where you are getting the 8.2s at this price. I would love to have them.
Thanks

Hi
I have the 8.2. I did not audition the 9.2 but i was advised by many senior members that the 8.2 is actually much better then the 9.2 with the overall sound
About the bass, i dont feel its lacking in any way. Maybe its not extended if you like it that way

a. you wont regret buying new ones in the sense that speakers are meant to be long term purchase.
b. if u like 9.2 go for them unless u have heard 8.2 and like 8.2
c. take a fast decision and satisfy your soul else like me the mind wont concentrate on more imp things in life than buying speakers, I spent 8 months searching.. and then decided on my choice in 25 mins ( that day i made up my mind to "kill it " .

hope this helps and sorry for the gyan..

Well.....that's a whole lotta gyaan for me......
I just don't want to take a wrong descision in haste.....

If you were in Bangalore you could've done a A-B comparison of these two speakers. Vector systems had both of them and that day I listened to both of them for a brief amount of time when I went to get my speakers. Frankly I couldn't distinguish much between them but anyway I don't have that kind of ear too and it was for a brief period. So take my listening exp with a pinch of salt. Another HiFi'er nSachin84 was taking the audition. I think he bought the 9.2's after trying both 9.2 and 8.2. You probably can ask him why he has gone for 9.2's.

BTW, OT, you are from Assam right?

If you cannot distinguish between the 9.2 and 8.2 sound by doing A-B comparison then I feel the sound difference will not be that much. Think I can take a chance.

Yes, I am from Assam. Got to know from my surname?

No no no no, don't take my word for that. It was for a very short duration and I was not listening that intently as I was more looking forward for my speakers. And infact I'm now wondering if I actually have heard the 8.2's properly at all to make that comparison. Please disregard my comments now. If you want I can go and have an audition of those two if the Vector guys allow me to do so. But I would need some time to do that as it's not very close from my place.

Yup.. Saikia is the keyword ;). Sending you a PM.

8.2 sounds much more open and airy than 9.2. Go for it. The bass improvement is not worth 6k for sure!!

That makes a positive statement for me. I am not a bass head and like to hear the details in my music. And provided the fact that I wil be pairing the speaker with my NAD amp which is considered to be on the warmer side, the 8.2 will better gel with it. So 8.2s, so be it!
As an end note to this thread, I must say that this Forum rocks! I really appreciate the fact that the members here are ever ready to help fellow HIFIVians like me in deciding the right audio gear. Thanks to all for your inputs. I have finally made up my mind to buy the 8.2, provided everything goes right:clapping:

I had a similar confusion with respect to choosing between 8.4 and 9.5.. I had auditioned both (although with different amps) and couldnt tell if difference was with the speakers or the amps. Unless you do a direct A-B comparison, it is difficult to tell.. I wrote to Wharfedale customer service adn they recommended the 9.5 over 8.4 due to various enhancements (like curved cabinets, improved silk dome tweeter, etc.). I finally went for the 9.5s and dont regret it! :)

cheers,
Shriram

Good to know that you are enjoying your "Kill" :)
As good amount of economics are involved here, I decided to go for the 8.2s. Moreover, my ears are not so evolved yet to differentiate between the minor subtilty of sound (Just excuses to justify my act of choosing money over music :ohyeah:)

I too regretted buying 9.2 when 8.2 was available for 6 to 7k less. Some minor "defects" I found like muddiness I realized later can be corrected by putting speaker on spikes and proper room positioning. money saved today can be invested in subwoofer a few years later. One day you are going to want a home theater system and satellites. See?

Enjoy!

Thanks gobble, your statement made me feel better about my descision :)

And now ... I have a similar predicament:

The Diamond 9.5 --> 26k (can't spend so much + a li'l too big for my living)
The Diamond 9.2 --> 15k (Stands 5k ;( + sounds good)
The Diamond 8.4 --> 17k (Juicy; 2 Way, suits my area 150 sq. ft)
The Diamond 8.2 --> 9k (???)

Hi Pannag

I have recently bought Diamond 8.4, 8 Center & 8DFS....
I had auditioned Jamo 406, 606.....and have decided to go with 8.4.....
I think Diamond 8.4 turned to be the best buy for the money and I'm happy with this purchase. :yahoo:
8.4 Produces full detailed sound especially in midrange. The Bass is adequate.... Tweeter is not great but good.....
Overall the sound is well balanced :p:p
I am driving these with Denon 1604.... 90WPC and they truely sound Terrific.....:clapping::clapping:

Thanks for the endorsement Amit :) :) :)
I am beginning to believe that the 8.4s make perfect VFM sense for my budget.

BTW, can you please share the pricing info with me?
