Midst all the talk about piracy and copy protection, why isn't anybody caring about the availability of quality original ACDs?

Why aren't the production houses spending half as much effort in brining the original ACD available easily for those who really care?

I am trying to procure few of the original ACD albums from the past. Mostly post 1990 tamil/hindi movies by ARR and the task is herculian and next to impossible.

Its always the albums from this year or the yester year and some junk that nobody is willing to buy, all along in places I have checked out.

Shouldn't people be more worried about making original ACDs readily available rather than tracking piracy?

My question is, who will 'search' for original CDs and wait countless days when counterfiet files are readily available in the internet?

This only pushes interested buyers into piracy due to non availability.

BTW, Is there somewhere I should be checking to get hold the albums I mentioned? I won't mind buying all the ARR albums ever produced in tamil/hindi if I can find them.

ACDs are a force only in early 2000s and it was mostly cassettes before that. Very few numbers were in market during that era and getting CDs is very difficult.

The current market is not encouraging for audio labels as the ACD sales are very minimal and in particular after the ipods and loud speaker phones. Most of their income is from the ring tones and royalties than ACD sales. Curbing piracy is next to impossible in India, so it is better to reduce that by coming with cheap alternatives like 100 songs in 30-40 bucks.

BTW if any one has ARR collection in FLAC or CDs pls ping me:D:D

If audio cassettes will do, i can check with my friend who is die hard fan of ARR. He is a great audiophile who prefers cassettes to CDs due to improper treble.

I dont have a casette deck and have no idea to procure one..
From what I have heard, the original CDs sound much better than the flacs for the same songs..

Flacs will do as a last resort but ACDs are what Iam after.. :(

Also, few ACDs I purchased released by SONY titled ARR hits etc are absolute junk.. Mp3s are better..

Honestly, what were they thinking?? Who will buy anymore ACDs from them anymore??

Gives me a feeling, all collector ACDs are junk. Only original movie ACDs are good enough..!

Blasto, u need to check Shalimar at Kothi. I feel they have the biggest collection of Hindi and Tamil songs. But again you many not find all there. May be sometime, next week end we will plan to go there.

its not true all collector ACDs are junk, but they become invaluable when the original OST never made it to ACD
ACDs are tricky, consider the following

1.Even rarest of rare ACD will not fetch more than 2000/-
2.Distribution of ACDs in india is terrible, so you never know which ACD came to what distributor in what quantity
3.one needs relentless searching ability, patience
4.Online is mostly useless, you will hardly get anything truly rare
5.small, unknown shops are the places to look around
6.avoid big showrooms like planetM,music world - they sell mass market stuff which are available everywhere
7.Get a close rapport with (and confidence) of a small scale vendor who knows about CDs, in time he will manage many rare stuff
8.get in touch with ARR fan club, they may redirect you. I can be of help for RDB ACDs
9.Don't bother about copies, buy and keep multiple sealed copies of something you like, they are 100/- each and will have excellent resale value after 10 years.
10.I have collected almost all I wanted during last 10 years barring a few

SARPHIRA -- RDB - Gseries
INDRAJEET - RDB - Tips
TUM KARO VAADA - RDB - Tips
GARDISH - RDB - Times music
GANGSTER -- Jatin Lalit - Top cassettes
Return of Jewel Thief - Jatin Lalit - Zee music

just be patient, you will get all you want

HOME :: Saregama - Music Portal - Saregama, HMV, Download mp3, Bollywood tracks, Ghazal, Devotional, Carnatic, Hindustani offers a service where you can choose songs and get them written on a AUDIO CD and shipped to you... guess you can search there... seems to be a pretty decent collection. With flexibility of being able to select only the song that you want, it may workout cheaper also.

I have used their online download... but unfortunately, all online downloads are just 128kbps mp3. No lossless available for online download.

do you mean all of his audio ( movies+ albums )?
if not all, i _may_, to a greater extent.. there was an era when i use to listen to him :P

a misconception,
if its transcoded then its simply is not a flac :)

depend on LOT of factors, includes which label produces that.
Buy a Linkin Park CD by Warner Music (German release will be great) & again buy the el-crapo EMI Indian edition of that again.
Play them side.. Feel the difference.

I picked up 90% of hindi stuff here in Hyd with the help of sajjad.. Around 25 numbers.. :D

Tamil albums.. Still have to go and hunt in chennai..

Mate,
Let us know if you find any AR Rehman ACDs in Chennai. just yesterday i scoured Landmark for them but couldn't find even one.

Hi ,

Check with "New Music India" at Adyar . Below the bridge , two minutes walk from ICICI Bank on the same side of the road .

Ask him to get it for u and check after a few days ...U may get lucky .

I had a very good experience when it to came to Old CD's ...Ilayaraja / Rajni / Kamal etc ...he got it from other places and gave it to me after 2 days . He has a good collection and if u are a genuine customer he will try .

I must mention that I made purchases worth 3500 before that from him and then after two days shelled out Rs 3000 again .

I don't know why cant the production companies sell these ACD's in FLAC format in website using torrents. If they sell @ 25Rs per a download for a flim, i think they can completely kill piracy.

Any idea why they are not selling using torrents. Are there any restrictions ?

It's a good idea @elangoas. But I think it would increase piracy instead of reducing it.
Eventually, one guy will pay Rs. 25 (or whatever it is) and he/she will upload it again as a torrent from where anyone can download. :)
