While On ebay I saw this listing and am unable to understand what this is ?

Is it some type of Free to Air Channel STB.

Can some one through some light on this.

Marketed as FTA (Free To Air) receivers but most likely they'd be able to decode paid DTH services from Tata Sky, DishTV, D2H... for free.

I have seen similar stuff while I was abroad and they need some form of internet connectivity (low-speed) just to occasionally receive de-scrambling keys from a server.

you are right, openbox is an FTA receiver used to get FTA channels .
latest products support HD channels also...
it all depends on how many satellites u can receive in ur location...
and regarding watching dish tv, airtel & other DTH channels, its not possible fully.... only dish tv channels can be viewed decrypting using internet...

that part we shouldnot talk about it in the public forum... if you want more information, i can guide u where u can get it.... its well established in pakistan & other european countries....

simply, u can get FTA channels which are available freely in ur area from the satellite in ur location using these receivers....:licklips: u dont have to pay anything for any DTH player to receive these channels... but initial setup requires some expertise & decent amount of money to establish....

Which are the FTA HD Channels? Is there a web-link which mentions HD offerings from different satellites?

HD channels are scattered over different satellite locations. My 6ft dish is currently pointed to receive malayalam channels. In this direction only AngelTV HD is available. I have also connected a Ku band antenna and lnb to the same receiver to access doordarshan dth. This receiver has recording option also. I recently recorded sunhd music channel when it was airing unlocked for a few hours. The video clarity was superb and audio in 5.1 ac3.
