Hi Sujithblaze

Based on various reviews and feedback, the AJ set of speakers is supposed to be one of the very best in terms of performance and decent in budget.....

You could look at other brands available....audition before purchasing....all the best...

what other speakers are available, any brand in particular?

Hi

There are many brands, Tannoy, PSB, Wharfedale, Jamo etc.....

Based on your budget, audition some of the models and shortlist what appeals to you....all the best......if budget is an issue....look at pre owned speakers.......For Sale by OWner or Hi Fi Ads...

could u name a few models which will be better than Andrew Jones, also will the velodyne impact 12 be able to play the low bass freq with authority want to upgrade my subwoofer as well, dont have the budget for svs now

You mean 50k for a whole 5.0/1 set or just for the floorstanders ?
For 5.0/1 I dont think you will have any other option apart from AJ

If just for floorstanders, have a look at Dali Zensor 5s

You can consider upgrading to the recently released ELAC speakers - which are also designed by Andrew Jones. They are a bit more expensive than Pioneers but not by much. They have been getting excellent reviews, even better than the Pioneers. Their sub is very interesting as well - it has EQ built in.

reason, want to try something new, yes i currently have complete 5.1 except sub everything else is Andrew Jones, have got a Cambridge audio aero 9 sub

I have heard AJ FS @ my friends place... It is a very nice speaker..You have already got a good 5.1 system..

Speaker change from 25K to 50K won't get you much.. But a change in your AVR will offer better movie performance (or) add a DAC between your source and Denon AVR for a good stereo performance...

Are you looking for improvement in music (or) movies?

If you have done the Auto Calibration settings in you AVR, plz share them..

What music & movie mode do you use?

The Pioneer AJs are low sensitivity speakers. Many great speakers (B&W, Wharfedales etc) are low sensitive and it is not an indicator of good/bad sound. But they need relatively more power to sing to their full potential. So in my opinion, you must stick to your speakers and upgrade the receiver to something that has more power (atleast 100 wpc at 8 ohm 2 channel driven). You could consider the Pioneer LX 59, Marantz 5010 or 6010 etc that are more powerful and can drive your speakers well. Like elangoas said, please do post your receiver settings too, so that the good people here can see if you are doing something wrong. Also let us know your room dimensions and whether it is a living room or dedicated room

Mostly use dts neo6 for music and neo6 for movies, i did the calibration and its has set my sub to - 12 and thd volume dial on my sub is i would say at 9 o clock:sad: i dont feel the bass at that level, my fronts get set to large, surrounds and center to small and it sets the crossover to 40hz for all the speakers

Hi Sujith,

Most of the times auto calibration fails to consider the actual room calculations and hence we find poor performance.....most of the times, you need to play with the settings....increase levels of the sub and speakers as desired.....0db should be minimum and then accordingly adjust the speaker levels of L + R...the centre should be more for dialogues...surrounds depending on how far from the listening position make the adjustments...i am sure you will find the difference and also love your existing system...

Once you make changes in the settings dont go cranking up the volume at one go....settings etc need to be done carefully with ample amount of patience...all the best...similarly adjust bass + treble or EQ if present

I feel the culprit here is the music mode..

For music always use Pure Direct, so that your FS are exploited to the fullest (or) listen to direst/stereo mode with subwoofer engaged..

For movies not sure why you use neo6? If your movies have multichannel content, the AVR should automatically switch to DTS/DD..

Since your crossover is too low, you are not getting the desired effect..Set all your speakers to SMALL and change the crossover to 80Hz.. Increase the volume Knob on he sub-woofer to your desired level..

This should improve your experience..

On a lighter note, when i saw the title of this thread, i thought Andrew Jones was dead or something. Was kinda relieved after i read the post...

i have already done that i have set my front crossover to 60hz and centre and surrounds to 80hz, my receiver does switch tto dd/dts if the track is available, i was referring to movies which had aac track, mostly my music is mp3 320kbps so listening in pure direct doesn't give life to music

Ok got it.. So your issue is with source and not with AVR (or) speakers... Even if you go for a better speaker (or) AVR it will only worsen the situation with 320 Kbps MP3 files..

Am sure if you play a Audio CD/FLAC/WAV on your AVR it will sound good... Try to source quality files...

320kbps is quite good. Almost comparable to lossless formats.
Check if increasing source level by a few dB brings about a change.
Direct/Pure-direct will defeat/bypass any channel level settings.

Cheers,
Raghu
