hi every1,

This is my first post here in HFV and I want your help guys....
I want to buy a complete ht package (smthing like onkyo hts3400) here in kolkataand I knw that this is the best package that I can get at that price i.e 28k frm Promises(kolkata).
but I don't knw much about this company like after sales service and all those stuff so I m a little afraid to go with onkyo.

what are the other options available for me in same price range i.e.(30k) like Yamaha or denon or pioneer?????

whether I should buy 5.1 standalone speakers (JBL etc.) and with that I can go for sm good amlifier???

As I told that my budget is 30K...so plzzz plzzz help me guys...and also tell me sm gd stores tht I can try and go fr a demo there...
thanxxxxxxxx:)

Totally depends upon yr preference and Usage. IMHO follow these ,

1. 70-80 % movies and 20-30% music .... Go for Onkyo

2. 60 % movies and 40 % music .... Go for Denon (Balanced, but a bit more towards movies)

3. 50-60 % music and 40-50% movies .... Go for Yamaha (Balanced, but a bit more towards music)
1. 60-70 % music and 20-30% movies .... Go for Marantz.

thnx dude for ur reply...
my Pref is 40% tatasky hd+
20% Ps3 Gmaes
20% Music
20% Movies
and another option 5.1 speaker from JBL SCS200.5BK-230 5.1 Channel Home Theatre with yamaha or pioneer or denon AVR???
thnx once again:)

Considering games/movies/TV make up a large majority of your requirements, 3400 is a very good bet for you. It sounds great with movies and as long as you are not expecting anything great on the music front, it will be probably be the cheapest too (amongst Denon/Yamaha/Marantz).

PS: Denon 1312xp HT set up has one advantage over 3400: Since it comes bundled with the Denon 1312 AVR, you have a chance to change/upgrade your speakers in the future. Yamaha/Marantz/JBL set-up too would have similar advantages. But the capabilities of the AVRs that come with these HT systems do not allow for a significant upgrade of speakers as they are not adequately powerful enough for large speakers (read good floor standers).

Rehan,
The toss up for a HTIB at your budget range is between onkyo HT S3400 and Denon 1312xp HT as others have said; I vote for the latter. You seem pretty bent on JBL as speakers and so you should! Go out and audition them !
Remember, the Harmon Kardon AVR that probably comes bundled with the JBL speakers may not allow 3D pass thru and HD audio which the onkyo and denon AVRs do!

Get a good quality receiver which is musical. For HT, you need more oomph in subwoofer range, which you can always do by adding a good sub. Please note that all the subs are powered, so they have their own oomph.

The Marantz 5005 from Hifivision is a good option. The other options are Yamaha 671/A710/A700/V667 etc.

suggest an AVR guys range 20-25k...
Denon or Yamaha or onkyo
my speakers are 5.1 JBL..
pls reply guys.
thnx

Rehan, in case if you havent bought the avr, please do consider buying denon 1612, i have read a lot on dvr and most of the forum advise against 1312. I think as we might not be allowed the post link of another forum, i am pasting text from other forum :

" the AVR-1312's lack of Audyssey MultEQ is a crippling loss for any real enthusiast. The AVR-1312 also does not implement several of the HDMI 1.4 features such as standby-passthrough and ARC. The 1312 doesn't even let you rename inputs or delete unused sources! "

actually when i saw ur post untill then i already bought denon 1312 avr but i was not satisfied with that product bcos they deliberately gave me the demo piece so i asked them to replace it and then when i chkd ur post i decided to go for the denon 1612 avr and got it replaced with my 1312 one.

I m so glad to have my home theatre package complete nw with Denon AVR 1612 and JBL scs140 BK...and trust me its just mind blowing...i m totally satisfied with my product.

thnx again to everyone:)

DVI to HDMI converter won't support audio. To get 5.1, best option will be to install an entry level graphics card with HDMI. Or, of your PC has optical or coaxial output then use them.
