When TataSky is adding more HD channels

Does one need to pay the HD access fee even while taking the semi-annual HD mega pack/annual HD mega pack which are priced at Rs 3880/- and Rs 7000/- respectively?

This was expected, i had posted some time back, that if they are adding channels, it would come with a rider and they would bump up the cost. Finally they did it.

I like D2h this way, pay Rs 170 and watch all HD channels except premium ones.
Not to worry about access fees or whether you have the channel in your SD pack or not.

Just to clarify. If i take up the basic D2H pack with an HD box, would I get the free to air HD channels? can you let me kno which all i get?

I can not add Sony six HD in my current packages... But I can add SD of the same..though am already paying 125 rs per month for HD channels..can somebody help me?

Rs. 125 is HD Access Fee; HD Access fee helps you to watch HD Channels if you have subscribed to SD Version of the channels.

For accessing Sony Six, you need to subscribe to SD version of Sony Six (or a package having SD version of Sony Six). You will automatically get HD version if you have paid the HD access fee

Do all new TataSky subscribers get, two TP wires from LNBF?
What's the benefit here with two wires?

I was told that two wires are for better transmission and recording separately so that they do not interfere with each other. Also helps in cloudy weather. I have not experienced transmission loss while raining after they installed two wires.

Because of issues with cabling, I am able to get just a single cable which is terminated to a splitter and the two cables coming out of it are input into the HD+ box. I've not experienced low signal strength with this setup in regular usage. In monsoons, the behavior is the same when I had a single cable running to a regular TSky box (no HD+)

Any one facing issue in Tatasky?.Its blacked out for me from morning.Shows error as "Call Customer care ".And the given nos are not working for me.

Seriously !! what a waste IMO. Anyone with a sane mind and owning an LCD/LED should not care about SD anymore.

Yes, adding a HD channel is no doubt a step to progress but not sure why they add these useless SD channels if we (people) already have sufficient SD hindi movie channels. May be to increase no. of channels or to excuse that they have launched this and this channel within few months.
Anyway let's see what comes next.

Little bit off track here - Does these HD channels have HD audio also? I've Pioneer elite - and most of HD channels I see decoded as Stereo... Has anyone noticed? and anything I am missing?

Something is clearly wrong with your settings in AVR. All HD channels irrespective of their tinkering at back end (fake/true/panned 5.1)source should be displayed in the AVR as Dolby 5.1 only. I am talking about HDMI connection and from my experience of tatasky HD+ only.

Coming to the actual scene of true 5.1 audio being provided, yes all do not have it.

Note : fake 5.1 here means all channels will be active though not reproducing the content they ideally should.

  • All HD channels of star network (Star plus HD, Life OK, Star movies HD, Premiere, world), Colors HD and HBO defined as well as HBO hits HD have True Dolby .1 Audio
  • Zee Network and Sony network's HD channels have fake 5.1 audio. Its very easy to identify - the dialogue in these channnels come from Front L, R and Center and never solely from center channel (which is how it should ideally be in true stream).
  • Any Sports/ event /documentary related HD channels (Discovery, NG, sports, news etc) will seldom have true 5.1 which is expected. They have fake 5.1.
  • finally, worst of the lot is Mtunes HD - they dont even have fake 5.1. Just a mono coming from front L and R.

Thanks htfan17 for the list. Regarding settings on AVR, my tatasky box is hooked to AVR via HDMI only. I will check the settings in the evening, but what those should be ideally? Even TSky box has some settings for audio output?
