I was wondering why popular manufacturers, stopped making full size Hi-Fi component systems..such as the ones shown below.

I must say that these systems 'look' so professional & rock solid.
I really love the way the bezels are designed...
What happened to this era, where such systems were there in any home appliances showroom ...???

Do we have any manufactures who still make such systems, and such that it won't cost an arm or leg ???

I used to own one of those sansui full racks many many moons ago.

Hi end audio have since moved from mainstream showrooms to specialist dealers now. They are still available if you know where to look.

The speaker designs have changed a lot though.

Serious music systems look like this now.

Mmm, I find that we are losing buttons & manual controls these days...(cost cutting??!!)

I would really want my music system to look like this :D
(BTW it is a amateur radio)

I prefer mixing and matching components sure the look goes, but it tends to sound a lot better if properly matched. Someone I know mixed and matched to the extreme: Acoustic Research Amp/speakers, Denon CD player, Nakamichi Tape deck, A graphic equalizer and a turntable (no idea what makes they were). Ah, the good old days ... great days!

Well, I have a Yamaha CDX-496 CD player. This thing has a full 10 digit keypad on the unit itself. You'd never get that on a modern day Yammy, Denon, Marantz or Sony. The displays have started to suck big time too - the displays on my old budget Sony CDP-270 CD player and my old Pio DV-525 rocked in comparison with my Aiwa, Sony and Philips DVD players. The display on my BDP-S370 Sucks big time as well. They're cutting down on costs, all right.
