where to buy modified region free blu-ray players in Mumbai?

The change limit of '5' times applies to DVD drives in computers. And perhaps it applies to BD drives in computers as well.

I do not think that it applies to drives in players - DVD or BD.

If that is the case then onida bdp is highly recommended for future buyers.

Got the Onida BDX1110 from Reliance Digital for 4888/- I must say it was an impulse purchase since it was a so-called "one day offer" :D.

Tested the following formats successfully through USB:

avi
mp4
mpg
mkv

Failed to play:

mpeg
mov
dat

Haven't had a real opportunity to test all features yet. But, overall looks good for that price :)

Dude have you played any real blu ray discs of A,B,C.....i would like to know if it plays all the regions......

Thanks. Actually it is modest (about 50 BD titles) as compared to many over here. My player is Sony BDP-S360 Region A as mentioned in my signature.

Sukhas,

Why dont you visit national market and see if you can find some region free or region A models? Panny and Pioneer bluray players should be available there.

cool... that thought never came to my mind....have you been national market? please share if you have any more info about region free blu ray players available there....

Now here's the final thing on the onida bdx1110 on being region free..once you change the region its not permanent, after the player is power down, it reverts to it's factory region, which is c. The good part is that there is no number limitation on how many times you change the code and you can change it according to the disk you have..on performance,i will report back post this weekend as I am getting the ps3, will do a side by side comparison and report back.

I visited the Vijay Sales, and they have the LG BD550 for sale till stock last for Rs.4999, and then visited E-zone and was offered the Onida BDX1110 at 4999. Now both the sales reps claim that the LG and Onida are guaranteed region free (the person who comes to install the LG will unlock the code on installation) and the LG comes with an added HDMI Cable free and also supports HDD upto 1TB. They suggested me to check with different region BD for my satisfaction, but I do not have any BD for now.

Can any one clarify if the above is true with LG as it seems better for the price and if the LG BD550 is region free.

The LG bd550 is a global model, and I have never heard it's mention as a region free blu ray player through remote hacks, and it is surely not a region free blu ray player off the shelf..so I think the salesman doesn't know what he is talking about..must of the time they don't understand the difference between blu ray regions and dvd regions..i suggest you do enough research on your part before taking his words in face value..if you ask my opinion I am pretty sure it's not region free

Ummm ... wrong thread?

kaushikp is right. Many salesmen do not understand that region code of DVD is different than region code of DVDs.

Long time ago I had visited Croma. The salesman claimed that all BDPs are region free. I had brought a Region A disc to precisely verify. First tried the Sony, next Samsung and then LG. No go - anywhere.

The salesman claimed that my disc was faulty - I rolled my eyes and told him - look at the screen, you moron. The screen is displaying that "The disc inside is coded as Region A and this player cannot play it. These are salesmen for you.

As far as the Onida BDX-1110 is concerned, it is supposed to be all region. This is the hack posted:

1. Switch on the player and open the disc tray.
2. With the disc tray open, key in '9', '1', '1', '3' from the remote. The screen will display the current region and wait for your input to change the region for BD and DVD.
3. For BD, you can enter either '1, '2' or '3' (A, B, C resp) depending on the region you wish to use.
4. Save the settings by pressing OK and you should be able to watch discs from your selected region.

Please note that I have not confirmed the settings.

As I posted before, I can confirm that the settings work, meaning you can change the region code. But its not permanent, every time the player is powered down and started again it reverts to region c. I haven't actually tested how well this works yet as I don't have region locked discs, I will be getting the band of brothers US import on 15th which is a locked disc,i can confirm then on how well it works

Finally the first consignment of blu rays arrived from US and following are my first impressions about the onida bdx 1110:

Firstly, the player is region free, no doubt about it. I have one bd now-the band of brothers, which is region AB locked. When I first popped it in the player, sure enough it gave the error that this disk cannot be played in my player as the default setting was region c. Opened the tray, pressed 9113 on the remote and changed the region coding to "01". Voila! The disc now played. Please note, as soon as you switch off the player it will revert back to the factory setting, which is region c in this case. So pretty awesome, now I can buy blu rays in peace without worrying about whether or not it will play in my player.

As far as PQ goes, it's pretty good, could not make out any perceptible difference between the onida and the ps3, which is a pretty good thing considering it costed only 5k. I am watching a 42 inch LCD from a distance of 9 feet.

The only problem spot that I could identify is the sound. The onida surprisingly has a 5.1 channel analog out, a feature which is unheard of in this price range. As I have a older receiver - the Cambridge 540R, I have hooked it up through the analog out. Hearing true hd sound for the first time, I am simple blown away, the effects and everything are awesome. Miles better than normal dts sound. I am using a mordaunt short 904i based 5.1 system. Problem is with the dialogue, which is coming in at a significantly lower volume than the the rest of the sound. The sound quality seems to be a general problem with the onida. My point of judgement maybe too high, as earlier I was using the Cambridge 540d v2 DVD player, and as all of u are aware, the Cambridge players are known for their superb sound clarity. But I will still maintain that the dialogue quality is a problem, which is hampering the movie seeing experience. I will experiment with some settings and get back if there is any improvement.
