Which Media Player is the Best

hmm..great..so for as low as 12.5k (excluding HDD & OS) I can have a HTPC. Some more money towards these. I will not include HDD price as is same with Media players, but lets say I use a pirated OS :P, & then I may be required to buy an air remote..cheapest one might be 1000? at least..If I want to play 3D movies, I might be required to buy some costlier graphic card. In that case it might be more costly..I think my android based media player is better solution with the additional amplifier..what do you suggest? I was researching hard to use an amplifier with my player for the HT system or to use a pana soundbar :SC-HTB series which supports 3D sound! Hope you guys can help. But HTPC, not an option. Thanks

Android Based Media player ?? which one is that, share plzz .... and for 3D support you dont need a costlier card. Same GT440 (3K-3.5K) plays BD content, that too DB ISO frame sequential, which less media players support. Also you dont require remote if you have any Android/ios Phone, as the phone acts as the remote.

PS :: Also you can assemble an HTPC witn in 12.5 including HDD as well. If you do with used hardware. As I did for my NAS. Really saves a lot.

Hi sam !

the android-based media player sushant is talking of, is, Himedia HD900B. he has the same one. i just got the delivery of this player :)

in fact, most of the realtek chipset based players now-a-days are incorporating android, even to the point of sacrificing some earlier-promised features to their customers (for eg, the case of xtreamer prodigy) to accommodate it. dont know why.

Hi All,
Haven't seen too much mention of Dune products here, maybe they are not easily available, but this dune-hd-tv-301 one seems packed full of features.

From my my point of view, important ones are :-

Pros:
Flac audio support, APE, Internet radio, good NAS support, playlist is also cool

Cons:
No output for composite or other analogue video/audio
Cant find iso support for Blu-ray. (what is BDMV!)

Also not sure of the price in India! Anyone tried or using this and has any opinion?

Thanks
Gaurav

Do check the kind of GPU netbook has, and if HD audio is of some concern, also check if it supports Bitstreaming, other then that yes a netbook can be used as a media player/HTPC

mmmm I seriously doubt.

Here are my counter points .....

1. u get dual audio out(optical+ coax+ hdmi),u can select as raw/ pcm individually. this is not possible in case of pc, unless got extra audio card.

Wrong!! ...You get that in a PC as well. In an as inexpensive board as 5K you can get all audio out options. You can also do RAW/PCM. Bitstreaming is RAW. And you dont need an audio card, a GPU does all this these days.

2. u got hdmi + av output can be connected to any tv.

same with PC, all you need is a HDMI to RCA cable.

3.wow the most of all u get REMOTE with all functions, fast forward/ pause/skip/ select songs in order/ group , all in hand than storing as play list/ opening different player for some file

every single thing can be done with PC as well. with an assembled one its not out of the box, but you can easily achieve this by buying any IR kit. With branded products like Zotac ZeeBox Nano you get the remote with it.

4. yet not least players support iso files.. no need to extract/ mount like in pc, just select it opens up..

no need to extract????? .... how are you gonna play an ISO on a media player without extracting/ripping a BD to ISO ...?????. Infact there are two big disadvantage with media players (an actual disadvantage),

1. If you dont own a PC you cannot rip a BD/DVD to ISO, so you basically are stuck with only a Disc in hand with only a media player with you and no PC ..!

2. No media player supports Full BD ISO Menu Playback,(DVD yes) where else with HTPC you get that full control over BD ISOs ..... (and that is the reason we have to mount) and mounting is not a 10 steps herculean task. Its just a matter of right clicking an ISO file and select Mount to "x" drive ....... thats it ...:)

4. unlike some pc players, u can adjust. color, contrast, brightness, easy change of aspect ratio, zoom... all in REMOTE..
i would strongly recommend media player..
just to add note.. most of the media players are updated frequently, supporting newer formats, so need not bother about it..
i own asus hd2, enjoying it, media player is the choice for
1. slide show( pictures)
2. you tube
3. internet radio
4. movies (480, 720,1080)

The above so called advantages are a piece of cake for an HTPC....... Just install XBMC and you have all your slide shows, you tube videos, internet radio, and movies in one single quality interface.

HTPC wins hands down when it comes to quality playback, media support, polished interface (YAMJ) and versitality.

And I have used WD TV, WD LIVE, AC Ryan POHD, sold every media player except WD TV (for my kid) and moved to an HTPC.

i have htpc with 8 gb ram, 250gb hard disk,1gb ddr3 graphics+ 512 on board, dual hdmi out, 3d hdmi 1.4 out, optical out,analogue 7.1.......
yet
i dont use it much... it prefer media player.....
ur way of saying is buy car, then tyres, then mirrors, then horn
buy pc, then graphics, then audio, then ir remote, hdmi rca cable, then xbmc
would like to opt to carry a media player to living room and bed room if u plan to switch tv or would you carry your pc with its table
no way when all comes in handy for 7,200 rs. why opt for individual
have a computer low configuration, download movies, transfer to hard disk , sit relax enjoy with media player....
pc does have its own advantage( its like 1000cc car, media player is 800cc)
just your choice..money , use, portability matters..

Just tell me which HTPC will be able to play my collections of 47GB BDISO movie files? My workstation which is meant to use high end CAE simulation softwares, starts stuttering!! & Yes, I want size also as small as the HD players!!

asus hd2 plays avatar bluray iso 48 gb file with ease, but audio out is 5.1 dts, not dts-hd...

hehe, you sound as if getting these things is like some treasure hunt, with god knows how many tough tasks ... RCA cable is the common red yellow white cable that you get with any A/V equipment these days. XBMC is free to be downloaded from net.

And with an itx board and a case like ELITE 100 your HTPC is as portable as a media player and better. You dont need to carry your table along with it ....olzzzz :D

consider tablet vs laptop,
laptop has more options anything can be done( touch screen, 3d screen all available), then why opt for tablet more costlier.
people who wants tablet prefer them over laptop, though function is limited..
similarly i opt for media player than htpc..
CHOICE IS CLEARLY YOURS..

Hi All,

Dune players are good, very good. The Dune HD Max, for example, can play anything on earth including region free Blu-Ray. The only issue with Dune products are their prices - Dune HD Max sell for some 35K. They are available all over the country.

Cheers

Does that mean media player van also work as DVD or CD player ? In that case what are benefits of both systems - DVD CD vs media player ?

Hello all,

If the media player has an optical drive, it can play a DVD, CD etc. Again it depends upon what optical drive you put in. If you have a Blu-Ray drive, that media player can play any optical media including Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD. If it has a DVD drive, it can play a DVD and a CD.

A Blu-Ray, DVD Player, or a CD Player is limited to playing optical media. A media player with an optical drive can play both optical media as well as all computer media.

you can order the 900B from here :

Detna Shop

i recently got it from this portal. owner's name is Mr. Raghavendra Reddy. a friendly chap, with great service ! gives an yr's warranty on the product, and delivery is quick ! he handles the agency for himedia here in india.

dont know about xtreamer pro, but with respect to xtreamer prodigy, here are a few points i considered before purchasing the 900B (even i was keen on the prodigy earlier) :

- himedia has got the same reputation in china as tata has got here in india (this was told to me by a forum member 'sushantjapan' who is in china)

- prodigy's support is irksome, as per feedback of various people on its forum and elsewhere. firmware releases are slower, and mods on the forum kind-of manhandle the members (as per the comments i read)

- prodigy has cut back on quite some features to incorporate android, backtracking from its promised things to be included in the player.

- some members here have had problems with xtreamer india's support. i remember seeing a few posts on that sometime back.

with the 900B, am very pleased. it can even be run on xtreamer prodigy's firmware, and has got quick original as well as custom firmware releases !

i am thinking of using an LG BD drive through SATA connection with my 900B :licklips:

Hey Seeker....

I called up Detna, they dont have himedia 900b/d in stock, inface he said 900b is with bluray player and not available yet, so bit confused, are we talking about 900b/d with bluray player !!

Also does this player support HDD higher than 1TB !
Any other vendor besides Detna !
will this support IDE/SATA both or only SATA !

I am currently having noontec V8 and m really pissed with that...its gets hung anytime, movie starts all over again......HDD gets off and doesnt get recognised....

I am gonna fiddle with tonite by updating it with MVIO V3 firmware as both shares same chipset and many members in whirlpool forums are satisfied with mvio firmware...

Thanks for all info...

Cheers..

900B is NOT with bluray, 900D is with bluray

try asking detna when they will get these in stock

it does support upto 2TB (not tested myself, I have 1TB HDD which works fine)

suports SATA

It is the 900d that comes with blu-ray drive.
It supports HDDs higher than 1TB
No other vendors in India for himedia
It supports only SATA drives. If you have old IDE, then use a IDE to SATA converter, but remember, you may not be able to fix the HDD inside the slot as there isn't enough space to accommodate the converter.

hey ghostrider, saj2001ind and baijuxavior above say correct. 900D is with blu-ray drive. prospective month of release is feb. and if you can, wait for about a month. by that time 900B should be back in stock, and hopefully, at last, 900D also should be released. all this subject to your having patience, that is ;) even i had to wait for nearly 2 months to avail the opportunity.

IIRC, you have a 65VT20D, dont you ?!

EDIT : so i was correct. saw your sig now :p that means you should settle on nothing less than a 3D HD media player. i would recommend waiting, and do tell us whether you were successful with the new firmware or not.
