Which Media Player is the Best

LPCM is just 6 channels audio already processed by a player and sent to AVR, the AVR will not show that signal as DD, DTS etc, just "multi in" since it is already processed.

it is recommended to let AVR decode these hence better to send signal in raw format

But I hav read somewhere that it can send LPCM audio to the AVR..
Is LPCM better or direct Bitstreaming better... Please detail on these 2..
Direct bitstreaming of HD audio is always better. ION will only bitstream the DD or DTS core part of high res audio - basically means you won't get lossless audio output.

I'd any day pickup AMD Fusion over Atom+Ion.

I hav read on this page : It Says.. "One last point: contrary to what you might hear elsewhere, there's absolutely no sound-quality difference whether the decoding takes place in the receiver or the Blu-ray player.""
(Except tat it shows up DD or DTS HD logo

BTW does AMD Fusion Bitstreams HD Audio..

its true you wont really hear a lot of difference between media processed sound or avr processed sound

but an avr is a specialised machine for decoding various sound so why not let the master do its job rather than a inferior machine

Yes. AMD Fusion can bitstream HD audio. But currently the favourite XBMC can't bitstream hd audio, so you will need to use other players like potplayer, tmt5 etc. for hd audio. With the stable release of XBMC Eden, HD audio decoding may be possible.

I am using LPCM with my xbmc htpc, because with DD and DTS, you can't control the volume from within XBMC. Also note that most avrs can't decode aac sound properly. In xbmc you can send aac as lpcm and dd/dts as RAW or bitstream.

Thanks for the info... Let me come to the point..Today while browsing, I came across these Zotac Mini Pcs.. ZBox .. They are aesthetically excellent and consumes very low power (Just a 12-19 v laptop Adaptor) compared to a normal PC (300 watts) ..Most of these ZBox s are equipped with ION Grpahics card. Welll on some more research I came across the short comings of ION .. i.e they cannot bitstream HD Audio...
So all these doubts ... Finally a solution...
Do we have to tweak any settings or for fully sure the HD 6310 equipped models will bitstream HD movies with Full HD Audio...thru HDMI...

No probs if XBMC does not bitstream now.. Sooner or Later the EDEN will be developed and some other version wd be able to Bitstream these formats....

Correct me if I am wrong wih any of the points discussed above..

There are some zbox models with fusion apu which can bitstream hd audio. With fusion you need only to select hdmi as the audio device and set 5.1 or 7.1 as the speaker system. You will also need to set the output to bitstream or raw in the media player.

Trouble is other than TMT, PowerDVD and WinDVD, there exist no other software decoders of Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD which can faithfully decode the entire stream to LPCM. There are no free software decoders for sure. Whatever exists including XBMC just decodes the Dolby Digital/DTS Core payload and ignores the extensions which means you are getting lossy sound.

Also another thing to remember about the ion platform is that it doesn't have enough shaders to do hardware deinterlacing which the fusion can do to a very good extent - not as good as a dedicated graphics card but good enough.

Hi reignofchaos

I am not sure whether you are talking about BD disc playability outputting hd audio. If it is for bd disc yes other than powerdvd or tmt5 other players will down mix to dts or dolby digital. I use mpc-hc and potplayer (both freewares)in my htpc and both of them bitstream dts-hd ma and dolby tru-hd beautifully to my yamaha receiver from a bdrip movie. I use xbmc as frontend and made some changes to the playercorefactory xml file and it calls either mpc-hc or potplayer based on the settings and the movie is played back by these applications without any problem.

Thanks.

Talking about decoding not bit-streaming. Bit streaming works just fine. Decoding does not. Since yahoo0212 mentioned lossless LPCM, that involves decoding DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD to LPCM which is currently impossible with free software.

Can you in that case share the play*.xml file from your setuip and from UI how to select that option?

Saikat, IIRC Sam has mentioned in his XBMC thread that he too calls TMT through a config file when he needs HD Audio.

+1 to that, infact I followed sam's thread when I built my htpc. You can refer to this thread and also can go thru the XBMC Wiki on how to configure the external players. Will post my xml file shortly for you.

Thanks

Its ZBOX AD02 .. A represents AMD Fusion APUs.... these are the ones with 6310 and can bitstream HD Audio... all the models are named according to their processor/APU.. and have a coloured circle on them.. Green and AD for AMD APU s ,,, Blue for Intel Atom and Orange for VIA Chipsets
