Why do everyone run behind a NAK!!!

If you use the tape monitor on an amplifier on a 2 head tape deck, you are just listening to the source signal itself, not the recorded and played back version of the source signal. A single head cannot record and playback at the same time. three head decks have separate record and playback heads in the same assembly which lets you do that simultaneously

Ok understood.

But in 3 Head Deck how is it functioning? Suppose in a 3 Head Nak deck one recording is going on. During the course of this recording how simultaneously one can listen to the playback of the same recording?.

this is a pic of the BX300 heads.
Head 1 Erases the tape
Head 2 Records the signal
Head 3 plays back the signal.

For 2 head decks, 2 and 3 is done by a single head, so only one of these things can happen at a time

I am sorry to keep bothering. Thanks for the picture.
But what I am keen to know is how it actually happens that when there is a recording going on how is it possible to listen to what is recorded simultaneously to get an idea of the audio. How is it possible? Any particular switch to be changed ?

in a two head deck, the record playback head is connected to either the Record circuit or the the playback circuit by means of a long switch in the middle of the pcb. so only one of these modes is possible. The record signal is really strong, and the preamp circuit might get damaged if you tried to connect both together.

In a 3 head deck, as there are separate heads, both are connected directly to the respective circuitry, and they can work together without interfering with each other.

I have understood all this. But practically how does one playback the recording when the recording is happening simultaneously?

Normally when the recording is happening either we hear the source directly or we change the mode in Amp to Tape to hear it. But how does we listen live what is actually getting recorded in a 3 Head Nak?

thats what the tape monitor button on the deck is there for. It toggles between the source signal and the signal from the playback head ( which is reading the tape as it is being recorded).

You set the mode in amp to tape, and then toggle the button

Understood now.Thanks for your patience.

buddy jay in a three head configuration tape is travelling from left to right so first there is the erase head then there is the record head and then there is the playback head so the tape while recording hits the erase head first and then the record head where the matter is being recorded and then finally it touches the playback head from where you can hear or monitor the recorded sound .
