Yamaha RX-V667

Hi everyone.

Just got myself an Yamaha RX V667 from Singapore. not cheap ;-)

Anyways now my major dilemma starts What speakers to go with the AVR?

Can someone suggest a good speaker package. less expensive options are appreciated.

I dont believe in big huge tower speakers.
Can anyone help me with small speakers with good output and definitely powered subs 12"

I got the black for 880SGD with the GST.
The titanium was for 825SGD with GST. ( yamaha is pushing the titanium at any cost)
GST was 7% So got that refund from the airport.
Had no issues walking out of chennai airport with my PS3, YAMAHA 667, Galaxy and many more tit bits,liquids...

So the final price in rupees turned out to be very expensive than in US, but cheaper than in India. Well asking someone to get such a big thing from US was not kind on my part, so i took the plunge.

It was about INR 29216

Now hunting badly for a good speaker which i need to get from chennai or bangalore.
So please hit me with options not costing me more than 40k (will consider expanding later down the years)

Thanks mates

I got the Yamaha RX-V667 with the Harman/Kardon HKTS 20BQ 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System at an unbelievable combo price of 699 USD from Amazon. The price breakup shows the receiver as 307 USD and the 5.1 speaker system as 393 USD. I will be bringing the entire package during my recent vacation to Kolkata.

Currently I have temporarily setup the system in my Apartment in USA and I have to say the experience has been mind blowing. I am hoping once I properly set them up in my home using wall-mounts it will be even better. Frankly speaking its all-together at a different level than the considerably cheaper Sony HT-SS337 HTIB that I had earlier purchased. The receiver has more features than I will ever need and the sound quality and crispness of the HK 5.1 speaker is just awesome. I just need to buy a solid step-down transformer from Kolkata. Any suggestions regarding a good place?

BTW I have already returned my Sony HT-SS337 at Costco after using it for almost 21 days. Why can't we have such store policies in India?

thanks kittu...

but that's a shocker coz I was at av square gurgaon and was quoted 45k.

Should I bargain with them to 36k or is it available somewhere else for 36k...?

Where can I secure it for 36k..?

PM'd you . See if you can bargain locally.

Again a request. Can people suggest me a good speaker to go with the Yamaha RX V667. I searched the forum with my limited skills and no one has described on the best speaker that can be paired with this AVR.
There is no ownership review also.
Can you fellow mates help me decide on the speakers and the shops i would need to look at in chennai and bangalore.
thanks for the great help. My AVR is nothing without speakers.

Ok some stunt i tried yesterday and result-

The AVR does not upscale any analog signals and i found that the HDMI input given via the AVR also was of lesser picture quality than the input directly given into the TV.

Tried connecting my already existing HTIB via the zone2 of the AVR - Again a disappointment, had better sound quality when all input was given directly to the TV and Audio output directly to the previous home theater.

I feel the Yamaha RX V667 AVR is downscaling both audio and video. May be i need professional help.

Slowly getting used to the settings. Hope once i get some decent speakers, atleast the sound output is as good as the multiple reviews and gaga about this receiver.

What is your total budget?

Are you looking for Stereo or a 5.1 setup ?

What is your room size ?

For 5.1 setups under 50k budget , you can look at

paradigm, deftech, psb , wharf cinema, mirage nanosat, energy, klipsch hdt500 and polk setups.

Thanks for the reply.
I have not yet set any budget for the speakers. May be will build over the year.
Will first start out with a front and subs.
Is it better to pick all the speakers form the same company or i can always mix and match?

How are bose for surround and a sub from different company.
What do you think of JAMO speakers.

Should i pick all the speakers out of a single package the company provides to get good output?

Can anyone provide me a link to read up and Speaker amps, ohms ...
what would be the ideal speaker range i should look for for my AVR out put of 90X7
How many watts subwoofer should i look out for?

Iam interested in JAMO, HArmon kardon ( some names already i have heard of)
Any place you can suggest in chennai where i can audition these speakers.

Actually a forum member is selling his entire setup , It was posted by Venkatcr. Selectively hand picked choice , why dont you give them a listen ?

AE floorstanders and Epos sub are priced very decently.

You can look at this post I made sometime back regarding bose AM 161 speakers that I intended to use as surrounds. Trust these are not bad, but for n reasons as stated in my post I finally settled with Yamaha NSP8900.

The Yamaha RX V667 upscales analog signals from Composite/Component/HDMI upto 1080p via HDMI output. I am using this feature with my cable box (480i input) and am pretty happy with the results. Its definitely much better than when directly connecting the cable box to my 42" LCD TV. The only thing this great receiver cannot do is upscaling 720p/1080i input from HDMI to 1080p.

The AVR does not upscale any analog signals and i found that the HDMI input given via the AVR also was of lesser picture quality than the input directly given into the TV.

Just got my Yamaha RX V667 :)
A friend picked it up at Singapore for around 800 SG$ (after refund on GST), which translates to roughly 28k. It's sold very well and most of the shops and the SG Yamaha distributor didn't have it in stock. Thankfully one was located in Adelphi mall. Settled on the 667 after a lot of research and demo'ing it and its main rivals, the Denon 1911 and Onkyo 608. Unfortunately, no shop had all three hooked up for a real time comparison, so the decision was partly influenced by the reviews and feedback on this and other forums.
If it helps, the Onkyo is the best VFM at under SG$ 700, while the 1911 is slightly more expensive than the 667.

The 667 looks fantastic in black, and is more compact than the Denon 1911 (read - shorter). Can't wait to pair it up with a nice pair of bookshelf speakers!
