Yamaha RX-V667

I think TS HD DTH gives 1080i and not 1080p. Airtel HD DTH gives 576p. Yamaha 667 owner as I do not doubt the super capabilities of it, it is only that I am putting in my thoughts .

Airtel has 1080i option(I am using)& SD looks better with that upscaling.Colours are not best with airtel.
Now no doubt that Yamaha makes better AVR,but one can save money & get lower end AVR with same power output when upscaling is not priority.

Before I purchased my RX-V667, I've extensively auditioned Denon 1911 and the next higher end model (2xxx) and Onkyo 608 with the exact same set of speakers (Mission M34i, Wharfedale, Polk) and found the Yamaha sound to be much richer and detailed and never harsh. I guess it all boils down to individual sound preferences and more importantly the loudspeaker pairing.

Tats right... Individual preference is more imp...

And I am in full agreement with that point on individual preference. I think you can also hilight some other features of your Yamaha which you did not find in Denon or the Onkyo and this can be of real help to others who are yet to decide.

Denon has no Pre outs
4 HDMI Inputs
1 Subwoofer Pre Out (Does nt make much difference)
No Phono Input available
Hdmi to Hdmi Upscaling: Present.. (all 720 and 1080i sources are upscaled to 1080p...)
Analog to HDMI upscaling Present...
DAC Chipset: I am not aware...
Quality of sound output: Great

Yamaha has Pre-Outs (Can connect an external amp to drive the speakers,,,if more power is required)

And how the PRE-Outs can be helpful... U can check out this thread http://www.hifivision.com/amplifiers/15841-5-1-avr-2-1-2ch-amp-setup-possible-effective.html

6 HDMI Inputs
2 Sub woofer preouts
1 Phono Input is available...
Hdmi to Hdmi Upscaling: Absent.. (all 720 and 1080i sources cannot be upscaled to 1080p.....does not make much difference when having a 32-42 inch Screen...and tat too when yr source is 720p... Blu Rays are all 1080..so no need of upscaling...)
Analog to HDMI upscaling Present... Present in both
DAC chipset: Burr Brown DAC
Quality of sound output:Also Great

So Yamaha is feature rich than Denon......But,,, Finally it depends on the individual...SO I guess audition is d key....

Hope it helps..... :o

Okay thanks, I think i misread somewhere in this forum where one has posted that the box was rated 576p. Seems I misunderstood something there.

I have new STB with optical out & can set SD output to 576p,720p & 1080i.The 1080i scaling good. :)
Yesterday I heard Yam3063 with Mission MV towers. This amp does not have HD-audio support, but 3D ready, 100w power.Sound wasnt as good as Yam663(I heard long back)which was musical.3063 was bright with mission, surround was good though-

Although I am still a prospective 1911 owner I think Component input present in Denon can suffice my needs w.r.t phono inputs since I think phone and component audio inputs are more or less the same. Also the DAC present in Denon 1911 is AKM. The HDMI to HDMI upscaling is of importance to me since I already have a lot of downloaded movies in less than 1080p format. I think preout in all channel would not be of much importance to me since at least 5 to 6 yrs later when this will be outdated I may go for a more advanced AVR of that time rather than bringing in an additional amplifier in between and increase the maintainability. So for now I will live well without preouts. Also for Home Viewing 90 / 100 Watts per channel is more than sufficeint when most of the time people play less than 50% for Denon and also Yamaha (for Onkyo it is 60%+ most of the time) so it is very unlikely that I will go for more power per channel. Again on Yamaha side if someone does not want to upgrade to screens over 40 inches they will do more than fine. Since I plan to have at least 46 inches I am considering that point.

Hi, this is the first time I am writing a post out here, though of recent I have read a lot of post that I have found helpful.
I am presently in the USA working on the cruise ship and was planning to get a Denon AVR1911, however due to its voltage being 110 volts, I dont want to get into putting a transformer for 240 volts, hence I changed my mind and will be buying a Yamaha RX-V667 as the reviews seem good for the Yamaha too, I have no idea about which speakers will best match the Yamaha as I do-not have the time to audition home theatres out here. I will also be buying a pair of Definitive Technology BP1.2 surround speakers as Im getting it cheap since a new model is out.
My hall in India is 325sq.ft. x 9ft. high, when im down to India in June, I would purchase the 2 tower or monitor speakers, centre speaker and maybe 2 more surround speakers to compliment a 7.1 setup (however I will not have the time to audition speakers then as I will be down on a short leave, though im setting up the HTS for my family. (My interest would be 90% Music and 10% Movies)
I look forward to your expert guidance in making the right choice if
I should purchase the Denon or the Yamaha,
should I purchase the pair of Definitive Technology BP1.2 surround speaker,
Which make tower / monitor / center / surround speakers would best compliment the receiver and space.
If my budget permit which subwoofer should I purchase or can I purchase it later?
Should I go in for budget speakers (within 50K) or is it advisable to buy the better speakers (within 100K to 120K)
Should I hold on from purchasing the AV Receiver now as the 2011 model of Onkyo TX-NR609 has far better specs.
Now thats a long list of doubts, but I am counting on your advice to make the right decision as I have never had a Home Theater setup before and all that I have decided is by only reading your posts.
Thanks.

Denon or Yamaha... its a Long going war... Decide only after auditioing.. Both the Rcvrs are great ....perfoming at equivalent levels..while Yamaha is little on d brighter side when it comes to features... Sound Quality..? Decide by yrself...
Speaker budget... Higher the better,, but if your listening area is small..higher budget speakers wd nt be recommended.....
Floorstanders...Look for Wharfedale 9.5,9.6 and 10 series.. and Mission 34i ,, KEF Q500 (high on budget) or Polk RTi series FS..
Try to get the Fronts and Centre from d same series of speaker (same company + seriez)
Sub...Look for Velodynes or Definitive Tech Supercube or ProSub 1000 or Wharfedale SW150/250
Every year new models are launched... so no need to worry abt the Onkyo s new versions... MAY be Denon or Yamaha too launch new models very soon.. As I have seen xx09 xx10 xx11 series of denons coming within 2-3 years..Dey may launch xx12 dis year and Yamaha with their xx8 series....
So look for wat is available and go for it... ;)

Hope it helps :o

My general observation(not with perticular model, but last few yr listenings)-

1.Onkyo AVR-Big,thick soundstage.Typical film like.
2.Denon- A balanced sound,not too thick OR thin.50%movies & music.
3.Yamaha- A little thinner HT sound, better surround processing, more OR less musical(depends on series)
