Yamaha RX-V667

i auditioned at alliance 4, viola and the shopp...

liked the mission towers...was wuoted 38k for the towers...

Didnt like the wharfe and the jamo..

Please note that RX V667 do not upscale HDMI inputs that are above 480p (like 720p or 1080i) to 1080p.

Suppose we play a 720p movie.. from a HD-media player thru d Yamaha-667 which is then connected to a 1080p (Full HD LCD) ...Will der be no video on the LCD?? or ??
as der is no 720-->1080p upscaling...

Or
there will be video but not clear??

720p movie will either be displayed as same(passthruogh) OR Yamaha667 will upscale to 1080p(if you set it).

The 720p video will be played as it is by the TV and there will be noticeable difference if your tv size is 37/40+ in size and if your eye is too much used to watching 1080p video. Yamaha 667 will not touch the video. If your tv has built in upscale feature then this video may be upscaled as per the feature of your tv. This is the main reason why I decided to go for Denon 1911 over Yamaha 667 in spite of the later being more feature rich. You may refer to the following review which also states the same limitation of this model.

720p and above will be only pass-through as 667 does not upscale 720p 1080i to 1080p

Thats sad that it cant. But this feature may not be important to those who has better player(BDP/HTPC)where it does better scaling than AVR.

Your DTH video will not be upscaled by HTPC or BDP. Your AVR will be your best bet in that case

Apart from these 2 we have also auditioned onlyo 608. Out of these 3 the Denon music sounded the best to both me and mandark and yamaha music was ok. We have heard the Yamaha both with Sonodyne speakers and Yamaha speakers and the Denon 1911 was played with the Polk Tsi / Rti speakers. While playing matrix movie we think the Yamaha sounded ear bursting to us in gunfire scenes. But the clarity of different component sounds was better in the Denon+Polk combo. The 608 also did similar to Yamaha in movies and music but we found two issues - one while Yamaha and Denon were playing at 30 to 40% of their standard volume the Onkyo was all time playing at 60+% volume and the video processing of Onkyo was poor with occassional frame drops resulting in TV to do frame extrapolation and give frequent "soap opera" effect. One onkyo that we found very good for movies was the 9300 THX model which is a 7.1 system HTIB all inclusive for 80K approx but again it had a less feature Amp. Hence building the HT is parts is best and we have shortlisted Denon 1911. Will look forward to purchase next month.

Thats why I got HD-Dth & so me any many others in future this feature may not be a must feature.I repeat,BDp OR DVDp can upscale better than most of AVR AVR(I read it in a group test review).even Denon 1910 upscaling is not appriciated by our forum members.

I think TS HD DTH gives 1080i and not 1080p. Airtel HD DTH gives 576p. So keeping all this in mind do you not think that these smaller HD signals need to be upgraded to 1080p? However if the TV can handle this then no issues. Once again my opinion is not to put down any existing Yamaha 667 owner as I do not doubt the super capabilities of it, it is only that I am putting in my thoughts for some new prospective buyer so that they are aware of this while making a decision and do not realize them post purchase. If someone thinks that TV can handle better upscaling please go for it and remember it will be a very good choice as well and Yamaha beats Denon in this range over feature and connectivity.

Yamaha s richer on features but when it comes to sound ..Denon takes it all...Yamaha s warm and laid back sound..and Denon s are bright in sound...so further it depnds on d taste of yr sound..Check out with Wharfs+Yamaha/Denon combo.....u will feel d diff....

For me only, Denon 1911 is final already.

Before I purchased my RX-V667, I've extensively auditioned Denon 1911 and the next higher end model (2xxx) and Onkyo 608 with the exact same set of speakers (Mission M34i, Wharfedale, Polk) and found the Yamaha sound to be much richer and detailed and never harsh. I guess it all boils down to individual sound preferences and more importantly the loudspeaker pairing.

And I am in full agreement with that point on individual preference. I think you can also hilight some other features of your Yamaha which you did not find in Denon or the Onkyo and this can be of real help to others who are yet to decide.
