 Hilarious Panditji! - Actually over the past few weeks of listening I am beginning to think that the Shl5's are easily the best I have heard, and it pains me to say this, the B&W N805 has not only met its match but has finally been bettered.
So I think that the Harbeth will be my reference for some time to come (unless of-course some of those Euro lottery mails that I keep getting are really true :ohyeah:).
Cheers
Sid

So that means you are not parting with them for some time atleast and I should start looking at responding to the Euro lottery emails.... ..

Hi Panditji

Do not know anyone who owns a Rethm in Delhi. However you are most welcome to come and stay with us in Mumbai and listen to the Rethms.

Absolutely Panditji - or the one about the rich widow whose husband was killed in Iraq and needs help for a hefty percentage to get her money, or the one where that rich sick guy wants to give the reader 10% of his $4million so that it can be distributed to charity:ohyeah:
Cheers,
Sid

Lol!! Same pinch guys!! Me too did the clay pot tweak. Slightly different order. Read on....

First pair of speakers were from Technics 120w 2-in-one (Model is SA-205S...still have the 30+ yr system) - 2 yrs

Next was a speaker box using Bolton full range driver driven by the Technics 2-in-one. Did not like the sound - 1 month

Liked the Bolton better in a pot. One pot in a corner and the other below my study table driven by Technics 2-in-1 - 1 yr.

Back to Technics system - 3 yrs (During this time, all my resources were spent on dad's car audio)

Jamo E570 floorstanders - 6 yrs (was in storage for long periods due to overseas travel and arrival of B&W)

B&W DM 610 (love them, will never sell them) - 7 yrs till date

Dali Ikon 1 (bedroom setup)

Next: DIY Altec drivers based horn speakers like Anilva & Rajiv.

never heard the 805N and 805S
Sorry doors666 you got me - you state you haven't heard the 805N but yet you state

Is it a typo or am I missing something.
Regardless, I spent a bit of time comparing the 805N and 805S in my listening room, with a dealer loan, and did end up preferring the N. Though I could have easily lived with the S as well, did not feel that the price upcharge ($500) was worth it at that time. BTW now the diamond version is double the price at USD $5k retail in US and some hugely obscene markup here in the Motherland.

Sharp Boombox - probably when i was like 5 or 6 years old. Uncle used to get a cassete of the latest bollywood release for me

After many years probably in 1995 - Sony FHG80 mini hifi system (my first cd setup)

Cosmic speakers

DNM sats with a pandam passive sub

Wharfedale diamond 8.2

Currently using - Sreekanth's Bookshelf speakers

Had the privilege of listening to Prem's setup some weeks ago. I was just amazed by the sound. It was a treat listening to many hindi classics and it was hard to believe how good they sounded on prem's setup

yeah, typo, meant that havent heard them together

Arjun, I first read about the JMR speakers from you on the forum...Did get a chance to hear them last year at HK and they just blew me away when we listened to smooth jazz on them... superb speakers for jazz and vocals but unfortunately not all rounders.... would that be the reason why you moved to the Merlins????

I am still in love with them. I would anyday recommend a linn classik + jmrs as a simple yet very beautiful sounding system.
The jmrs are romantic speakers and get you to forget anything else..but lack resolution. It blends together music very well but unless you go much higher in their range you feel they roll off highs and lose those tiny cues. Merlins are a lot more neutral

Hi Venu, Square_Wave and Santhosh,

I am planning to mount full range speakers in clay pots. Can you please give me hints and suggestions?

Regards.

Philips speakers with a full-range driver and a port (don\\\'t remember the model number)

Philips speakers with two drivers and a bass port.

Sansui speakers (from an old rack system)

DIY using 2nd order crossover, two-way model.

B&W bookshelves

DIY active system using DIY parametric equalizer to control the room acoustics and three way system (Yes, this one included 6 DIY amps too for each driver !) This was the best sounding system but unfortunately some of the amps died.

Mordaunt Short floorstanders (don\'t remember the model name). Sold them sometime back.

Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 (presently in use)
Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 (presently in use)

B&W floorstanders (next planned buy whenever I have the funds)

aquired a Jamo d830 / Original concert 8 Bookshelf speaker in mint condition!

Congrats ! truly awesome speakers (And Heavy !) , a classic, and far better than the floorstander version. apparently their only deficiency was the crossover and if that could be modded it played in a different level altogether.

Used to know someone in Singapore who had modded them and was addicted to them

Hey corelement,

That is a lovely speaker. The only one I actually ever liked from the Jamo brand along its floor standing version.

Try and pair it with an amplifier which do not have any kind of brightness and you will be rewarded ;)
