4 CDP's

thanks for saying the exact thing I wanted to say about the .1 :)

@ajay124 -

it has been my thinking that the .1 of a system is meant to be felt through the seat of one's pants?

so, nature should have given us 5 ears and a sensitive bun?

they used to be Modded Denons..now they are modded Esoterics.

so should be better than stock..

ajay124;189973The reason I started a cdp upgrade thread (and not one for speakers or amps) is that I believe that the Arcam is already performing at it's maximum potential. It's a good cdp said:
That is the point. The Bryston combo is often considered as a bit dry and bland in music thought it has excellent resolution and wonderful bass. Where they fall short are in the mid-range and upper bass. Try a good tube preamp like ARC or VTL or others instead and see whether you get more out of the Arcam. Before I forget, make sure your speaker cables are as short as possible. The Brystons never like longer ones. By the way, the earlier models had a completely different sound, more "solid state".

But of course, there are many who live happily with the Bryston pre-power combo and Brit made CDP like Arcam, Cyrus, MF etc.

Good luck in your quest.

I do not want to tamper with the BP6 Pre,as I find that it integrates very well with the Bryston Power amp.Any other Pre,especially a Tube Pre,may break that integration and sense of 'belonging together'.I am just guessing as I have not tried any other combination
I have not deconstructed the Bryston sound into lower, upper bass/mid range/treble,as I have not heard enough HiFi equipment to pass such judgements:).All I can say is,that I do not find the Bryston sound to be bland or dry.I think it is clean, detailed, neutral and accurate. And that's the way I like it.I would not want my system to impart a warm/cold/rich/lush/creamy or any other inflection to the music.I think the Bryston combo does a great job of transferring information from the cdp to the speakers, and it's dead silent in the process.
The cables are 3 meters each.Factory terminated, with spades.

Before I forget to mention, there is something many of us overlook in selection of equipment, be it CD player or amplifier or speakers or accessories. That is to have an extended listening session. Many equipment sound wonderful when hearing for a short time and after an extended session, say about 2 hrs or so, you start getting something called 'fatigue'. If it is a really good one, you never get the listening fatigue and feel like playing on and on your collection of music. I have observed this from personal experience. That is the reason in spite of owning Ayre CDP and power amp, I did not go for their solid state preamp but settled for a tubed one. A tube equipment somewhere in the chain smoothens out the solid state attributes.

I have nothing against Bryston, it is a great piece of equipment, but to my ears, it always sounds a bit bland in an extended listening session. Of course, it is my opinion and you are free to disagree.

good luck and cheers.

My listening sessions extend from 7.30 pm till close to midnight every night.Have never felt fatigued.I can't listen to more than 2 CD's of rock or jazz at a go,but with western classical,I could, and a couple of times(with a bottle of Laphroaig for company)have carried on listening till almost daybreak. The Vienna Acoustics seem to be voiced for classical music.Last night I heard four Chopin cd's in a row, with a running time of close to 4 hours.Piano music can never, ever get better than Chopin's concertos, etudes and nocturnes:)

I have sent you a pm.
Guys like me living most of the time "there" and coming "here" home on a few days holidays now and then always have several things to settle at the family front which always get the precedence over and above "listening sessions" with like-minded fellows, especially with those who have nothing much to do. The other reason is that I own and use my system from my interest instead of "demonstrating" my DIY and other ego-boasting publicity. I have spent my own hard-earned money (and not family inheritance) for my enjoyment and not out to prove anything.
I have given my phone number in the pm. Call me and if I am free, you can certainly drop in.

cheers.

Hey hey, whats all this? Agreed, my time may not be as much at a premium, but to presume that I have nothing much to do, is not so nice.

@ murali -

cool it - everybody needs to feel important -

you have your job and your are self-made -

so you do not have to run down a person because the person (me) does not have a job -

at least, i get some importance in the forum because of "Get-it-made-myself" (if not DIY) - and that is important to me.

how will it be if i go around saying - "look at me - i am a loser - i do not have a job - moreover i have nothing to do but spend the family money?"

you say "nothing better to do" -

but, perhaps, for me this is the only thing i can do (make some loudspeakers and get some attention on the forum).

so chill out - some persons can hold a professional job and some persons cannot- there is no need for (derisive) contempt of persons who cannot hold a job by those who can

iaudio - that post was "FOR MY EYES ONLY" -

and not directed at you

Murali, this post of yours is totally uncalled for and in bad taste. Pray tell whats the reason for such a rude response to a fellow audiophile(s).

Also, why so much disrespect to DIY:eek:. FYI, DIY is not just about saving $$$ and definitely not about show off. It is about learning and sharing the knowledge. I am looking to enter DIY in Audio and have learnt a lot from these threads..learning that we can relate to in our audio journey. Suggest you visit the DIY section sometime and get over your ignorance.

Thanks for the compliments.
If that is what all this comes to, sorry, all due apologies to all concerned for any misunderstandings though I never meant anything I have said in this forum (where I have been privileged to express my views and opinions, thanks to all those who read me) to hurt people's feelings or sentiments. All I had done, sometimes, was to react to some posts which (to me) sounded very childish, often egoistic, and now and then challenging, even questioning my credibility at times. That is something I have never tolerated in the 50+ years of my life both on personal and professional fronts. In this particular example, the gentleman who wants to come and listen at my home should have sent me a pm as the first step instead of posting publicly; I am not running a audio-video shop to buy and sell things, nor am I full time living in my place interacting with local members. I can understand the person from Chandigarh interested in listening to a Ayre component because he is looking to buy something similar, not just to listen and forget. At the same time, a third person comes in between and tries to take a dig, may be to prove his point of discrediting a "clothed monstrosity". So I just reacted, that is all.

I don't wish to participate any more in this forum and good bye to all. Thanks too to the moderators who have tolerated me so far. Of course, I agree I will miss this great forum and am sure it is not going to be the other way round.

I always believe that one progresses in life when trying to make sense of each action or thought, be it a person or community or nation. The same applies to our world of audio and video where the more we get educated, the better we understand. At the same time, I never forget the fact that this is only a hobby and not one's life and always there are compromises in what one wants and what one gets, and of course the time you can dedicate in front of your system.

Happy listening and keep the small world of sounds we live alive and educational. I wish you all success and progress.

You had posted on your thread, publicly, that anyone around Cochin was welcome to come for a listen. That's all I did. For further contact details, I always use PM. I didnt know that atm the invite was valid only for Ajay.

Ajay has also stated in this thread, he is not looking to buy a cdp immediately. He is just doing his homework in advance.
Sure, I dont have the means to purchase something like what you have on your rack, but that doesnt mean I cant enjoy good quality sound/music. How do you know I will listen and forget? I have been to other HFV members places to listen to their set ups, many of which were not on my buying radar, but that does not mean I do it to waste their time or mine.
I have always followed your threads, valued what was posted, and replied when I could/should.
Something you have said earlier, is that, only when one listens to good systems does one appreciate the beauty that good spatiality, imaging etc bring to music, that is all I am trying to do.
As I said in my PM, its absolutely fine if you have family matters to attend to. I respect your priority and privacy and I am fine if you turn down my request for a listen on that basis, but not because 'i have nothing better to do' or because 'I listen and forget'.
Enjoy your music, I have nothing more to say.
