7.1 is the Future

I would like to use a mode which won't disturb/alter the sound going to the 5.1 speakers much, at the same time send special effects (rain, helicopter etc) to the heights. After reading your post I think IIz will be better for me.
LISTEN to both before deciding which one sounds better for you. PLIIz is very subtle, so you may need to go into the speaker set-up menu and raise the volume level of the heights in order to really hear the effect.

just take a generic rain scene. suppose there is a rain in a movie scene. how will these different technologies differ in the way they will sound ?

How will I know that without hearing it? It would depend on how much of the rain was mixed into the front channels vs the surround channels, how much was in-phase vs decorrelated, etc. Too many variables. Are you asking me to make something up?

ok then, tell us something about any particular scene involving "Front Height" speakers which you have had the chance to hear with DSX, IIz, Neo X and Yamaha Presence.

How did that scene differ with each method ?

thanks,

Rana

I haven't listened to CinemaDSP in years. As for the others, I tested mostly with music.

The only movie scene I tried was from the begining of 'Grand Prix', when actress Jessica Walters is laying on a bed and some of her dialogue is steered from the centre to the left. With DSX, her voice became huge (taller and wider) momentarily. With the others, the difference was negligible (voice wasn't pulled into the height speakers).

You want me to fantasize in my imagination what it will sound like to listen to the first 5 minutes of 'Ratatouille' using different height processing and then tell you what happened in my fantasy? That would be a complete fabrication. What purpose would that serve? (I mean, besides finding out how active my imagination is.)

We sure don't want to know what happens in your fantasy. ;)

What happens in your fantasy, stays in your fantasy. Good thing I had the totem to bring me back to reality.:yahoo:

i have 6.1 capable avr, yamaha rx v450 and using 6 speakers now with a single back surround.

Will it be alright to add 2 speakers to the surround back speaker terminal and use the avr in a 7.1 mode ? Or will i end up damaging my speakers/avr ?

Thanks
