Acer K-130/330 Exhorbitant Price?

I have talked to Acer and Optoma and both were quite friendly. Acer people even gave me a quote in email on the same day. Just that the price comes to be about 44k for K330 including all taxes.

Can you please let me know the performance of K330. I believe this is an LED projector. Also please let us know the details of the where you purchased the projector.

Sorry to hop in late on this topic.
About 2 months ago, I got a quote of INR 40,500/- all inclusive for the Acer K330 from 2 dealers in Bangalore. One had it in stock & I purchased it without hesitation.
The dealers are Aum Technologies and Ninex IT Shop.

The reasons why I chose the Acer are:
1. It seems to be the only 500lm 720p capable LED projector with an audio out (stereo) port.

2. The focus does not drift like the other 500 lumen clones (Optoma/Viewsonic), due to good heat sink design.

3. 3D capable via a PC only (VGA/HDMI hack)

4. Access to the Service Menu to change LED settings + other stuff

5. Supports USB WiFi dongle (RT3070 chip only)

6. May also support ARC over HDMI (forgot if I tested this)

The only problem a few owners have reported is the signal drop issue when using HDMI.
This has been remedied by some by using a UPS to power the AVR/PJ/HDMI source. Others have disabled ARC, while some have had success disabling DeepColor/X.V. Color.
In the past 2 months that I've used mine, I've encountered this issue once, but did nothing, as it didn't reoccur again.

very nice post nitro...
this will help people to understand that LED PJ shall no more be underrated for movie watching with few limitations @ good price front for an average cinema lover.
better to spend more on HT, if someone is on tight budget...rather than expensive PJ.
This is only my personal view and not to offend anyone here..

Saket, no need to worry about warranty, I got the picture from the Net.

Ok, the pj performs extremely well when displaying movies, games, etc.
It does however hiccup playing certain MKV files from the USB drive. "Not supported" is what it says. Not yet encountered a problem with AVIs (DIVX, XVID) though.

The displayed picture quality depends on the source.
I've hooked up my standard def. DishTV STB via composite and it looks no different than the TV, some minute text is blurry and cannot be read.
Video playback from a USB drive again depends on the source.
480p looks ok, 720p and 1080p look awesome.

I've also hooked up my PS3 via HDMI (1080p) and it rocks.
My current projected image is about 100" diagonal and I see no loss in clarity from about 5 feet away. Pixels are crystal clear and I think there may be room to go all the way up to 150" - 200". The only downside is loss of brightness as the image size increases. A controlled dark room could help bigger image sizes.

I've recently begun playing back movies from the PS3 USB port rather than using the USB port on the pj, simply because the PS3 upscales the content to 1080p It also has some de-noise and de-blocking filters that makes old videos look awesome. This could probably also be achieved via a DVD/BD/media player.

P.S. I've tested and HDMI ARC does not seem to work with the Acer K330. The audio out seems to be the only easy option for me.

I've got a cheap screen for now as my HT setup is not permanent. I preferred the map type compared to the pull down as my usage is continuous. I've also heard of pull down screens getting waves over time (many years) due to inconsistent spring tensions in the pull down mechanism. Well, maybe not the high-end (priced) ones. I've also demo'ed some pull down screens & they were creaky (like an old door hinge) and the thought of that happening over time (no matter how costly the screen) put me off.

I've got this unbranded 7x5 high gain screen for now. I went for the biggest that fits my current wall, as I may need the extra screen space later. The projector is currently at about 9-10 feet away from the screen, utilizing about 70% - 80% of the screen width, depending on the thrown image ratio - 4:3 or 16:9. This screen has a matte finish and also has a 2 inch (approximate, not sure) black frame mask on all four sides. Since it is a high gain screen, the entire back of the screen has a black mask as well.
I ordered this online as its cheap compared to the others and I could risk it if I wasn't satisfied. I've not found anything to complain about though and I'm happy with its performance.

If you need to calculate the projection distance and screen dimensions, etc., you can use the Acer projection calculator here. For some reason it won't calculate throw distances greater that 7.8 feet, but you can approximate that yourself if needed.

I've not tried 3D as yet as my desktop is in another room and from what I've heard I would either need an ATI GPU + 3rd party 3D software or the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit to begin with. I have an ATI GPU, but no 3D software & personally I'm not too keen on 3D for now, maybe try it out later.
