Love this album!
Here’s an amusing take on Matador from the very first edition of The Penguin Guide to Jazz:



Matador also has one of my all time favourite tracks in the BN catalogue - Bedouin. It’s a Duke Pearson composition with a haunting Middle Eastern vibe that can also be found on the two albums below. To my ears, the Bobby Hutcherson version (with Joe Henderson and Grant Green) is the best of the lot. Do check out.

Foot tapping funky indeed. That bass riff on the first track is so dirty and good.

The album artwork and music style gave me the impression that this was something from the late 60s!
But superb stuff ... very similar to some of the jazz standards.
