All the speakers I made - suri

Suri, so sorry to hear that..but you are now in the most fun part of DIY..the tweaking.
i am a layman here but could i suggest you plot the response curve in your room (If you have a radio shack meter ? ) to see which is the range you are having a problem. i presume is just a matter of breaking in a tweaking.

BTW I used to run Klipsch speakers in a class A setup many moons back and the only way i could tame the sibilance was by placing a small piece of tissue paper in front of the tweeter in the horn..that used to cure the 2khz-4kz range which was elevated and causing siblance.

i would also highly recommend getting in touch with Siva. his setup is one of the purest in terms of musical enjoyment I have heard and the man himself is a gentleman. it is not a "Audiophile Purist" setup but you forget time when you are there..it sounds like you would want music to sound (At least for me)

hi arj,

thanks for the encouragement!

i have a radio shack SPL meter and a test (tone) CD - will try and plot the response curve - might get scared seeing all the jigglies! - but hope to find a large peak - and find a way to flatten it.

i know siva and jeya of corrson - have bought peerless and scanspeak from him in the past - will contact him and see what he thinks.

Agree 100%

@capt.I had already suggested that you listen to the Corrson amp when you go to B'lore, and have given you Siva's contact details.

Thank you very much Rajiv. I had indeed spoken to Siva that very same day & he had asked me to come over. I was not aware that the DIY person was Mr. Siva when I prodded Square_wave about him. Now I'm aware that the ball is in my court:)

Capt should you ever visit Bangalore you are more then welcome to drop in for an Audition of my humble DIY stuff should you be interested offcourse

Thank you very much for your generous offer. I'll surely take it up on my visit to Bangalore. :)

Hi Suri,
Have you considered active bi amping? I feel they might sound better,by removing the crossovers ,besides you can adjust the crossover slopes to your preference.
What are the slopes and points you are using currently?
Have you tried removing the brass radiators on the sides of the tweeter, the sibilance might be diffraction related.
How much play time have you given the Witches?

Lots of questions I know, hopefully help in troubleshooting.Lets just say I feel your pain.

hi adhiraj -

thanks for empathizing -

i have heard actively amplified speakers - they are dynamic - but i have felt that they were snarling monsters tugging at their restraining leash - even when they were playing relaxing (but demanding) orchestral music -

but i have heard sublime (two-way) passive designs that have, on occasion, brought the (glad) tear to my (left) eye.

one of the defining points in my life was listening to the original rethm speakers -

rethm

but, in the years that have followed - i have found my deliverance with most well-designed two-way loudspeakers (passive) -

and i will continue to look for the best compromise here-

6 db slope -

i have tried removing those brass resonators - the sibilance persists - i feel that i will have to reduce the baffle presented to the tweeter.

Suri, your post about tear from left eye got me curious. When I did a google, I found this very touching story. Thought I'll share with you and other members:
Left eye happy tears....right eye sad tears - TUNESMITH ENTERTAINMENT "TUNESPACE"

Is it true that a tear drop in one's left eye means happiness?

Also Suri, I am unable to found the post which contains the address to the shop on SP Road (Bangalore) selling Grille magnet. Please point me to it or post the address if you have made a note.

Hi Suri,

Thanks! I am in the process of child proofing my new speakers and speaker covers will be the very first step!

hi stevieboy, soundsgreat, cranky,rallynut,

if i could point my finger at one issue - it is sibilance --

and with female voice - there seems to be excessive energy - especially when female sings with piano - in a sequence with high notes (not a musician - so - when the piano goes 'plingk-plingk-plingk') - a certain irritating honkiness-

what do i do:eek::confused:

hey relax suri -

since the front baffle (that presents itself to the tweeter) seems to be the problem how about submitting it to major surgery?- like, say -

surgery in progress - the witches are going to look deformed - they might sound less sibilant, though!

Noooooooooooooooooooooo Suriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!! Please don't post any more pics until you have completed the surgery and the plastic surgery after.

Just when I was admiring the witches in the first pic, I scrolled down and saw what the surgeon had done:eek:.

@Santhol - Body sculpting surgery is never pretty!

@Suri - did you try Silicone implants to reduce sibilance? They might absorb the high energy peaks better ... :)

On a more serious note, I thought it is the insides that determine level of sibilance, but you chose to do liposuction on the love handles. (oops! I just had to slip into less serious domain :D)
