I have just purchased an LG 50PQ70 amd quite happy to see it's overall performance. Would some learned User/Specialist advise if it is recommended to take an "Extended 4 years AMC" from the LG Service which is on offer now.
Thanx.

Cannot say about LG but don't take AMC from Reliance Digital. I paid Rs. 1000 for AMC for my CRT TV purchased from them and they were supposed to come once in every 3 months to dust, clean and do whatever else necessary for maintenance but they have not come once in the past one year. They offered the AMC for my LCD and Plasma too in the range or Rs. 5000 but obviously I turned them down based on their previous performance.

Either way I really don't believe you need AMC at least in the first year since the product will be under warranty which will cover everything.

AMCs are hopeless!

Hi,
I do not believe in AMCs. The technicians usually know little of the gadgets that they are supposed to maintain/fix. I once had an AMC contract for my PC: and the tagline of the AMC provider was:

Pre-care for post cure!

I worked for a PC hardware outfit once during my college days.

The service engineer would carry a small bottle of oil with him. He would meticulously clean the printer, fix the ribbon, ensure it is running smoothly, fix any faults etc etc then while leaving just before packing his stuff he would dab a finger with the oil on the infra red sensor of the printer.

The result was that it would collect dust rather quickly over a few weeks and paper would get jammed!! Then the customer would have to call the technician more frequently than the fixed number of services allowed in the contract per year and pay extra ... Cheating .. yes

so beware of AMCs

Regards

Thanx for the info. The extended 4 years AMC is after the standard 1 year's warranty.

Well I will agree with what "gobble" has said. BTW what does their AMC cover? If its just dusting and cleaning that you can very well do with a vacuum cleaner. My friend who is a lawyer and knows very little about PCs has an AMC for her PC. The guy came and cleaned the PC and then also uninstalled MS Word from her system and also deleted all Word Documents resulting in loss of all her legal documents.

As I understood from the LG Service personnel, the AMc covers 4 years extended warranty service with free replacement of all functional parts & components other than physical damages.

this sounds like a good deal, if the price seems reasonable, then it should be worth going for. At least on paper. In practice I have no idea.

If the AMC is directly from the company, you can go for the same ensure, you see the paperwork properly and see what all is covered, also a factor to look at is the costing for the same.

How much did u pay for the TV and how much are they charging for the AMC ?

If it's an extended warranty, from the manufacturer, then it would be worth a shot. Plasma, LCDs have some very expensive parts.

I checked with Panasonic. They do not have any sort of warranty beyond the default 1yr.

Just find out what i covers and IF IT COVERS Lcd disply pannel too/
Is if from company ...now esp for durables a lot of "support companies approch " .If it is from LG it is good otherwise no

After protracted discussions LG Service has offered 19.6 + 10.2% Service Tax for 4 years extended warranty beyond the first year's warranty. I am inclined to take the bait and hopefully rest in peace and enjoy watching the Plasma TV for 5 years without having to worry about possible breakdown & failures.

21.5k for a extend warranty:eek:,by that 5 years time don't know how cheap plasmas or lcds will be

What you have mentioned did cross my mind. I guess, it is a matter of getting the comfort feeling with the assurance that one doesn't have to worry over for 5 years what with the infamous frequent power failures of Bangalore!

well i know, but 20k is a lot for a warranty,by 5 years time we would have seen OLED displays.newer lcd technology(as early as next years sharp and sony lcds),plasma with even more efficiency and improved contrast.may be u can get a 100inch for the same price as today.
as far as power failures it has nothing to do with the tv going kaput, just get a good stabilzer like the V-Guard digital stabilizer like Digi 100 or 200.

With the way prices are dropping u may get a 40"- 42" in 30k in couple of years, so spending 20k on extended warranty does not seem justified.

I already see few posts of people buying 42" plasmas under 40k in clearance and discount sales

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
