Dear Friends,

I finally bought MArantz PM6003(now Discontinued) last saturday after some basic research on the entry level amplifiers. Only time will tell if this was a good decision or not.

I am very thankful to Spirovious, Flash, Srinisundar, Svkndv, Omishra, Reubensm, Denom, S P Krishna, Amarendra, Udhay, MAnniraj, Avidyarthy, Gudu, Satmumbai, Audio Freek, Suresh_143 and all others whose name i am missing here for there great help and guidance on deciding my first music system setup.

Time being i will hook up the Amp to my 6 yrs old dvd player till i buy a new source.

Now i need to find suitable speakers for the mentioned amplifier. I believe i like more of balance music i.e not too bright or not too warm. My budget is INR18000/-- or lower. After Reading at various threads i understand Wharfdale Diamond or Monitor Audio goes well with MArantz. not sure if i can audition them here or not.

Request all of you to help me in deciding on the speakers under18k net.

Regards, Amit

Jamo sounded good with Marantz. Well, the Jamo I heard with marantz was D590 that is way above your budget.

You may check out some Jamo BS at around 25K range with your PM 6003.

Amit,
Congrats on your first step on Music Set-up.
As Marantz seems to be Warm sounding Amp, better you pair them with Little bright side BS.. few so Dali Lektor1,MS Aviano 2, Monitor Audio M2,PSB M25, MA Silver also try for Mission M34i,Usher S520.

Before audition make sure Marantz amp's are available to pair with these speakers, else you need to carry the Amp like baby for audition:)

I compared Marantz with Yamaha and Onkoyo, Hence i felt Marantz are brighter :), Possibly You might have tired with Nad and then Marantz:)

Hi Audio Freek ,

Thanks a lot for your wishes and suggestions.

there seems to be some confusion here. In your first statement you mentioned following:
"As Marantz seems to be Warm sounding Amp, better you pair them with Little bright side BS.."

In your second statement you said folllowing:

"I compared Marantz with Yamaha and Onkoyo, Hence i felt Marantz are brighter"

Which one is Correct?

Regards, Amit

Ops,

The second statement should be as below; instead of "Warm" used "bright":),Lack of Concentration :o

Try with MS Mezzo, Polk Audio RTI A3,Monitor Audio M2 etc

Marantz+Wharfs might not impress in High Freq hence try above combo's and go for the best

Hi Audio Freek

Thanks a lot for your recommendations. In some other forums i read that marantz is a warm amplifier, at the same time in our forum i read somewhere that marantz is bright amp. pls see following link:

http://www.hifivision.com/amplifiers/28470-difference-between-warm-bright-stereo-amplifier.html

It says:
"warm - NAD
warm side of neutral - Musical Fidelity, Arcam, Sugden, most class A amps
neutral - hotly debatable. I feel quads like 306 and 606 mk2 are pretty neutral. Obviously there are others I have not heard.
bright side of neutral - Creek, Cambridge Audio.
Bright - Marantz, Cyrus, Rotel"

Problem is that i am not in a position to come to a conclusion if it is warm or bright.

The MS Mezzo2 are around 37k or 38k, which is way above my budget, MS Aviano 2 are available for abt 22k to 24k. Monitor Audio M2 is not available, they have a new model called MA MR2 costing about 17k which is an upgradation of BR2, Any IDea about MA MR2?

Forget the warm or bright, just audition and buy what you like.

I enjoy the sound of NAD with Wharfedales in my room which a lot of people don't recommend.

Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers in Red Mahogany finish at a Special Offer Price. BUY now before the price increase.
