Guys , I am contemplating this receiver. The question I have is how does this sound when compared to similar priced japanese competition. I know that the biggest feature of these receivers are the ARC v2 room correction, but does this make rcvr. sound appreciably better? Upgrading from denon 2310, so looking for a real upgrade rather than a sideways move. I have not been impressed with the audessey in the denon, I just manually balance the channels with a sound level meter. Not much info. on these in the forum, that is why I am starting a new thread.
Cheers,
Sid

i am using anthem 510 for the past 10 months previously using denon 4310
phenomenal upgrade. arc vs audessey no match . arc clear winner :ohyeah:

Thanks Karthi, can you describe with a little more detail:
1. How is the off axis intellegibility of the ctr. channel, particularly for people sitting extreme left or right?
2. How is the integration of the subwoofer? for instance in a rear explosion can you feel, perceive the impact from the rear, rather than a vague feeling of somewhere near the rear.
3. How well do the surrounds envelope the listener? do you feel a holographic projection of sound or are they disjointed?
4. How easy is it to use the ARC? Does the room have to be very quiet or general ambient noise is ok?
5. Where did you buy it? who is the dealer? how is the indian price compared tothe us retail?
Sorry for all these questions, but I am trying to understand exactly how good this rcvr. is without an audition.
Cheers,
Sid

i.regarding sound you have to listen to make a precise comment ,... to me its simply superb
2. this is THE most fantastic plus point of arc.... sub integration you wont belive how the sub vanishes in the sound field
3.completly surrounded
4.very easy....... arc1 is little bit clunky but arc2 is Ethernet enabled very easy
5.dubai
6.try to buy from us or Canada definitely cheaper

moreover i had never auditioned 510 before my purchase ... i took words of r.balagopalan our hfv member , he is right and now i am happy. try to get 510 instead of 310 since 310 is 5.1 output even though it decodes dtshdma

Thanks Karthi,
I have a small room only 14' x 12' so no point in 7.1. Even now with my 2310 I am using 5.1 and am quite satisfied.
Ok first I will try to find out India price. I do not want to buy from North America as I do not want to use a step down, so will try to source from Asia or even India even the pricing is decent. Contacted the India distributor, waiting for a quote.
Cheers,
Sid

I got a decent quote on the 310. I will do some further research and make a decision soon. One thing is clear for the price of the 310 one can get a pretty high end unit from the japanese. I guess without hearing I will have to make a leap of faith. Let me see.
Cheers,
Sid

Hi Guys. I am also looking at Anthem for my HT. Same size room as yours Sidvee but was thinking of using the two extra speakers in the 7.1 system for height speakers. Any input from anyone on this? Otherwise in terms of surround I cannot use more than 5.1.
The only other AVR I was looking at besides Anthem is the Yamaha RX840 or 1040 in the Aventage series which I hear is very good. Sidvee and Karthi1000 may I kindly ask you to PM me with the prices of the Anthem 5.1 and 7.1 AVRs that you have managed to get so that I can compare my choices. Thanks.

Did this exercise two yrs back...i.e. Compared the Anthem with Arcam AVR...with music as my priority n to my ears arcam sounded much better ...if possible do get a demo of the arcam gear and compare it alongside...

Thanks for the info. Is the price of the AVR600 comparable to an MRX510? I'm also evaluating between a 510 and 310 for my HT setup.

Back then did the comparison between Arcam avr600 and Anthem mrx700...admittedly the Arcam costs more...when comparing mrx510 you can stack it against Arcam 450 or 380...not aware of any Arcam dealers in India..some of the other forum members can help...but if your usage is mainly for movies then Anthem should fit the bill..

I would think that Arcam and Anthem would be of a different league compared to most of the Japanese receivers...I heard the denon 5805 and Yamaha z11...only amp which came close to Arcam 600 was pioneer susano (lx90) though it was costing more than the Arcam then, but I thought the top end was bit recessed in pioneer...though I have not checked over the last 2 yrs as there might be more options...I wouldn't be able to comment on the two I.e. Marantz as I havnt heard it...but Arcam and Anthem are pricy depending on the location which you are in...but to my mind the difference in sound quality kind of justifies it...I have known few who have given up their separates to buy these one box solutions...but then the cliche follows buy what suits your ears...as for me after hearing avr600 it had to be that or nothing :)
