Apple music to launch lossless streaming

The thread title doesn’t say that.
The article is about android though. Anyways, those on iOS if you're happy with only one service, please ignore my comments and continue using apple music.

My comment is specifically for Android where there is no need to use a subpar experience on android by subscribing to apple music. Spotify and gaana collection is much better . You can always use tidal on android if for some reason (though i dont belive it) you tell me that spotify with same bitrate is worse than apple music. There is no way it sounds better than tidal hifi or master

There’s at least one comment above from a user of Apple Music on Android who doesn’t face any of the issues you proclaim. Could you consider the possibility that you might be erroneously generalising your experience as an absolute truth?

I am using Apple music on my Android phone for over 2 years without a single issue....working flawlessly for me....have tried Spotify but to my ears apple music sounds cleaner although some people may prefer Spotify quality..

But I do agree that UI of apple music is not so great compared to Spotify or gaana...

Moving away from the relative stability of the apps, (which IMHO can be a one step forward, one step back, as and when the underlying OS changes) to the quality of the apple catalog. For me at least, Apple 256kbps AAC seriously busted my paradigm about how compressed music could sound. Apple Music to me, sounds, well, musical, less compressed, and much closer to lossless Redbook than I thought possible. My observation is for the "mastered for iTunes" catalog, vs CDs that I have. Others with more golden ears and more golden systems may have a different view, and I respect that.

I am waiting with anticipation as to how they will make sound the Hifi tier sound noticeably better to the larger apple audience. Hope they don't overcook it.

Sir I posted reviews from play store review page and there are 500k of them on the page with an average rating of 3.7. I consciously omitted my personal thoughts as I hate apple software, just to stay away from any potential bias.

I am an analyst by profession for 15 years now and what you have said about generalizing, I am 100% cognizant of that cognitive bias. However after 100s of thousands of reviews, not to generalize and draw Insights is the fallacy and not the other way round

Apple Music announces spatial audio with Dolby Atoms; will bring Lossless Audio to entire catalog starting from June, 2021

wow! good I have a 256Gb iPhone. Bye Tidal!

no.. wait.. for Roon I still need tidal. so no bye yet

If only this is made available in India and doesn’t require specialised hardware for the full high res lossless tracks. Read that it will be playable via a USB DAC.

Seems to be already here!

Some highlights,

  • Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio will be available to Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost.
  • Thousands of tracks will be available in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos at launch, with more added regularly.
  • Apple Music’s catalog of more than 75 million songs will be available in Lossless Audio.
"Apple Music’s Lossless tier starts at CD quality, which is 16 bit at 44.1 kHz (kilohertz), and goes up to 24 bit at 48 kHz and is playable natively on Apple devices. For the true audiophile, Apple Music also offers Hi-Resolution Lossless all the way up to 24 bit at 192 kHz."

So it looks like Apple is providing their entire library of over 75 million songs in High res 24 192Khz for no additional cost. I see no reason to subscribe to Tidal or Qobuz. Now to find a nice streamer for Apple Music. Are there any good streamers that natively support Apple Music vs having to Airplay it?

And now Amazon is cancelling additional charges for HD Music. Big yikes for Tidal. Their monopoly over high res streaming is coming to an end.

In iOS 14.6 which is expected next.

Starting with 20 million songs, the rest shall be available by end of year.

I don’t think so. Apple hasn’t opened their service for native streaming.

All in all, Apple is disrupting the music streaming industry yet again!

any idea, can we even airplay apple music content from windows or android apps? seems direct connection thru usb is only way i can output apple music to my CXN V2 from windows, if no apple device around

Out of those 500k how many of them are good android phones? Even the crap phones use android. Even the best android flagship mobiles are buggy at times. My brother is using Apple Music in his s8 for 3 years and even today he is using it with no issues. My wife s9 died in 9 months and for 9 months we had no issues with Apple Music. These both are flagship android mobiles. A person who uses a crap 3k android phone also gives review.

Even with an Apple device, one is dependent on USB for higher hi-Res as AirPlay 2 is limited to 24-bit/48 kHz IIRC.

No they are not especially for running a simple music streaming. Even a sub 10k phone runs spotify and tidal perfectly fine.

You just need to accept that apple isn't able to optimize it's software for multiple devices and make peace with it

For CD quality, airplay2 is good enough. Airplay 2 is available on my network streamer - CXN V2
In my Apple music app on android mobile, i only see casting available to chromecast video device i have on wifi. CXN V2 chromecast audio device is not seen on the list. On browser or itunes in windows i do not see any cast or airplay option. So effectively i can't cast apple music wirelessly from windows or android devices i have. Only option is to have wired usb connection from windows to streamer. Am i missing smthg? i do not own any ios device
