Asus O!Play Mini with DolbyTHD decoding, DTS HD-MA for just 3500!!

i had the same query before getting it :ohyeah:

don't worry you'll get dts 5.1 , here's your answer:

DTS-HD 2.0 + Digital Out denotes the ability of outputting
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio 2.0 Lossy channels directly to a
TV or external amplifier through analog outputs. Also capable of
outputting DTS-HD High Resolution Audio streams to an
external decoder such as an A/V receiver or pre-amp/processor.

Does it have any limitations on playing mkv in terms of file size? Heard some comlaints that they cannot play files bigger than 4gb.
Secondly, can it pass through both Lossless Audio to AVR through digital out or only HDMI?

After reading the users review on this, purchase the player 2 day back. As I am using old CRT TV, had connected using analog output. when I connect and play avi file, picture was comming but there was no sound in the TV. when I connected audio to external speaker then I able to hear very low sound. So I decided to upgrade firmware. After updating firmware to latest one, I am able to get sound in TV but compare to DVD player which I was using, Sound Output was quite low.

After that decided to test music. Connected Asus Mini to external speaker using optical out and 7 year old philips DVD player using Coaxial Out to same speaker and played same mp3 song on both. here also I was getting low sound output compare to DVD player. I fill that SQ of DVD player was better than this Asus Player

Pls. help. Is this a normal or there is any problem?

I bought Asus O!play mini two days back, It is a good simple player.
How do we safely remove the USB drive? I tried to search for the same in manual, but coould not find anything related.

Use the option button on remote to safely remove the USB drive by selecting the drive... :)

Thanks krishnendu ... I found another way to safe remove the hard drive .. press the STOP button for 3 seconds (you can be anywhere in the menu / playing a file) and player will ask for the drive to be ejected.

I want to share another good thing about this player. It has powerful / tolerant HDMI port.
I use this player with Optoma HD20 projector with 15M HDMI cable, it works great even with 15M HDMI cable @1080P/24Hz and @1080P/60Hz

Earlier I tried with SONY Bluray player, WD TV Live the picture was distorted / frame sync loss issues were seen.

I have not faced any issues playing large MKV files on the O!Play Mini. I have played 1080 24p bluray rips of upto 12GB w/o any issues. I play these files from an external HDD that has been formatted with NTFS filesystem.

In theory the player should pass through lossless stereo sounds using optical and lossless surround formats using HDMI. There is no way to transfer lossless surround sound over optical connections.

Now if you want to bitstream the original DTS & Dolby Digital AC3 soundtracks to a AVR such that the AVR can decode these formats, then that should be possible over optical.

New forumer here.

Just got an O'Play mini and happy with all aspects but one.

I convert my DVD into ISO file and play it - looks grainy and crappy.

I get an ISO from my friend, looks grainy. At his place, with a different media player, looks muuuuch better. All other aspects are fine, BRRIPs are playing great, etc..

Appreciate inputs so I can stop pulling my hair out :-)

Just ordered this few days back ... Now one question .... Does it supports Full Hd signal through the in the box composite audio video or not ???

Simple answer No. HD or Full HD signal is not possible through composite connection, highest possible signal through composite is 480i. for that you have to use either component or HDMI connection, but component out is not available in o play mini, so connect it through HDMI only.

Hi team, I was looking for a similar issue that I am having, and I found this foro. I have an Asus o!play air, and I can't see MKV files up to 20Gbs... any from you is having the same issue?
Thanks!

Thanks buddy .. right now using the composite cable and in settings the player supports 1080 through composite but have to say the video sucks becoz of analog.. just ordered a HDmi cable for 120 bucks from ebay lets see the performance

Hello madbullram, may I know how will you use this Asus mini as your TRANSPORTER? You mean you will use this to just PLAY some file in this player and get the digital out? Kindly enlighten me if there's any other product which can support all these formats AND play discs as as well?

Bought the ASUS player from ebay and it was delivered on friday..
updated the firmware to 1.1.3 from the asus site.
First impression : a super VFM player for the price 3.2k.. with ebay coupon.. :)

Waiting for the edifier da5000 pro to arrive to know the real deal..hehe

does it (edifier da5000) have digital audio decoding? If not, then how will you connect the player to it? RCA outputs of the player won't give true surround sound.

thinking of getting this for the time being

Digitalbay| HDMI| HD Media player| HDMI Splitter| Digtal Bay

If it doesn't do what it promises, then have to use the edifier as my PC speakers and need to get the av reciever and speakers as soon as possible.

BTW if i buy a AVR, is it possible to connect the edifier speakers to speaker output of the reciever ???
If yes then i could skip the buying of the above product and wait a bit and then buy the AVR itself.

I just bought ASUS O!Play MINI.
I connected it to TV with HDMI cable and with Onkyo AV receiver with Optical cable.
I am getting audio only on TV, but NO audio via AV receiver.
Audio setup I did is
HDMI Output HDMI LPCM
SPDIF Output SPDIF RAW

How do I make the Oplay send audio to Optical connection?
Please help.

Thanks a lot.

Is there any hdmi input in the onkyo reciever, if yes, you could connect the hdmi out from the hplayer to the reciever and then connect the hdmi output from the reciever to the tv.

yes, But unfortunately I do not have HDMI in my Onkyo, its a very base model (with DD and DTS). according to OPLAY manual this connection is allowed (HDMI to TV and Optical to AV receiver)

you shall not have any problem as long as the played file has a format which is not accepted by your AVR. Try playing mp3 first to confirm the signal paasing to AVR and then go to files with AC3 or DTS.
Mine connected to Marantz SR 301, similar to your AVR and it plays without any problem. AAC files will not be accepted unless you set optical to LPCM.
Hope it helps ...
