Asus O!Play Mini with DolbyTHD decoding, DTS HD-MA for just 3500!!

Got O!play mini from Nehru Place , Delhi on 27 Jan. I was trying for Wd Tv live but unfortunately ( or fortunately ) its unavailable ( because of WD factory affected of floods ) so after careful decision purchased O!play mini. First hand experience is that its awesome. My kid liked it very much. Now my laptop and PC are free for what their intended purpose are and TV and Music system do what the do best with this media player. I have used various pen drives and external Hard disk ( both powered and non powered ) of 80GB and 500GB capacity. Though I was a bit afraid of comparing O!play mini with other devices with higher RAM ( in excess of 512mb ) as compared to paltry 128mb being offered. But then I required a simple device ( no need for wireless an NAS things, no internet steaming on media player etc ). My younger brother is into Chip desiging he advised positively and I made good decision .
It plays all available media files on my HDD except for "Hotel Californis.dts" song. So I beleive that exceptions are always there.
In short if need is for USB based media player only then this is excelent choice.

Congrats for your purchase.
How much you have paid for this in Nehru Place?

New Query:

I am considering buying 2 or 3 TB seagate with power supply... not sure will it be supported by Asus Mini R1 ?

Anyone using it let me know ?

Thanks in Advance.

I have all my BR collection as 1080P MKV with HD audio (made using makeMKV). I have some ripped as images too. Can this player play bluray image file?
Also, is it possible to use a powered USB hub so that i can connect multiple external HDDs to the player?

planning to buy 3 Tb seagate (with power) for Asus HDP-R1...

not sure will it work or not, anyone using same ? Please suggest.

I was toying up with connectivity options between Asus O!play mini and Denon 1312 AVR. My basic system is media player connected with AVR with Standard RCA cables ( analog ) and CRT TV also connected with RCA cable. Today I compared RCA / Optical / HDMI cables for connecting Asus media player to AVR ( for audio only ). To my surprise sound quality (SQ) with RCA was highly inferior as compared to Optical / HDMI. Both Optical and HDMI were equal in my opinion.
Digital / Analog connections are always fought for superiority in forums. Here in this case digital data from Media player to AVR was found to be superior than Analog signal.
Basic cause could be that Asus O!Play mini may be having an inferior DAC as compared to Denon AVR. When connecting media player using Optical / HDMI cable digital data is directly fed to AVR which does digital to analog conversion.
RCA cable used is good one as using same with STB has good results.

So finally it can be said using Optical / HDMI cable with above said model will lead to higher SQ.

Extensive search over internet results are, upto 2 TB it runs, people have faced issues with 3tb. There is no single person who conducted test between 2tb and 3 tb connected to O Play mini.

Presently using WD 2TB HDD, through the Asus media HDP-R1/Onkyo AVR it takes some time to read, but connecting HDD directly to TV HDMI port it reads immediatly, have not tried 3TB

Hi Guys,

I have a strange problem with my Asus Oplay Mini.. None of the files (Audio/Video) are showing in the "File manager". But, if i scan the HDD then those files are showing in their respective menus under "Videos" and "Music" but still it doesnt show under "File manager". I also tried to play few movies under the "Videos" menu it plays only 90% of the files and not all the files.

I currently have 1.15 firmware. I tried to reset to factory settings and also downgraded to 1.14. Still the issue is there. Can someone help me how to resolve this issue.

The media player is still new. Just bought around 45days back. It was working fine until today. No setting were changed but suddenly this problem cropped up.

Try with a different USB Drive... Or format a Pendrive with FAT32 then fill in some videos ,, then try . See if that works out.. May be the storage device is at fault..
