Asus O!Play Mini with DolbyTHD decoding, DTS HD-MA for just 3500!!

Don't all the low end media players have the same chipset? I believe they advertise DTS-HDMA but neither can it decode and if it does bitstream, my Onkyo that supports this codec can't understand it OR displays as regular DTS. The players do decode TrueHD though.

Yes, it doesnot do DTS-HDMA but does TrueHD for sure. It also does DTS.

Users using Asus Oplay Mini, could anyone please confirm if this player can output DTS 5.1 Sound, directly, without downgrading it to 2.1, to the AVR using the Optical Out.

My receiver can only receive DTS signal, hence looking out for a Player which can do this job neatly at the given cost of upto 5K.

Asus O!Play mini surely does output dts 5.1 if the original movie file being played through it has dts 5.1 sound, there is no downgrading to 2.1.

my humble 2 cents

How much it costs now? I can see in ebay varies from 4100 to 4300. Is there any other source i can get lesser price?

You should get it in price range 3900-4300 with discounts of 10% or so. Check at infibeam, rediff, snapdeal. Its not much difference from the earlier price which was quoted at 3500/- keeping in mind the current $ difference

Seen most of the posts in this thread and few of them have gone optical for audio .... Is optical better than HDMI ?
Just ordered mine from eBay for Rs3997, will setting it up tomm ...
And for selecting 5.1 sound do I need to select it from the Oplay player or from the AVR I have a denon AVR

Some Surprising fact about this Player

This player plays video file with Ac3 audio but unable to play only ac3 audio file (File with ac3 extension)

Player save last played position in the video but once memory full, this feature will not work

Player plays FLAC without breaking a sweat, dump the AC3 files and get FLACs or high bitrate MP3 of the same ;)

HDMI as of now rules ALL. Optical has some limitations.

I got one more of this player for my Dad as the old one went bad with the remote not getting deducted. The new one looks good and I love the new remote compared to the old one. It does look classy and the layout of the UI is also very neat with a preview window which was missing from the old one.

What are the differences between these

Asus O!Play mini

Asus O!Play mini plus

Asus O!Play r1
Asus O!Play hd2
Asus O!Play r3

which one is best?
Appreciate your input guys

I have O play HDP R1. Thinking of upgrading as I feel the interface is messed up in HDP R1. If I want to play a movie from a specific point its so tough.I want to know is there any difference between HDP R1 & O play mini user interface? I heard O play mini supports Dolby True HD which is cool. What are the other major updates. can anybody help me on this?

did you try upgrading the firmware? AC Ryan, ASUS OPlay series have similar UI across models with very little difference. I have HDP R3 and with its 3 year old features also it support resume from last playback. But if you want to start a movie afresh and skip to a certain point then you have skip forward (with > button) and may be you may change the skip interval from settings to 15 mins or so instead of the default 5 mins

Why Asus O play mini does not have full screen option ,even if led have full screen and it does not show full screen?

Why Asus O play mini does not have full screen option ,even if led have full screen and it does not show full screen?

your LED tv is having 16:9 (1.78 : 1) aspect ratio but modern movies mostly are shot in 21:9 (2.35:1) aspect so in order to fit the 2.35 within 1.78 the height of the picture is reduced thereby exposing black bars at top and bottom. Before buying or downloading a movie you can check the aspect ratio if you like in that case.

from media player (ASUS) there is one option if you change the aspect of video from settings to 4:3 (when playing 21:9 movies) then you can get a pseudo full screen. Let me know.

When am using Asus 16:9
LED 4 corners can be getting some gap.

When am using Asus letter box 4:3

LED 2 corners(Left and right) can be getting some gap.

With bluray player am getting full screen (it has 16:9 full option)

This is my tv LED config

Resolution 1920 x 1080
Dynamic contrast ratio 1900-06-14T16:01:00.000
Viewing angle 178 degree (Horizontal /
Hd Full HD

let me know

Guys, I just got an oplay mini today. I tried playing a ripped bluray with AAC 6 channels using optical cable to my Yamaha reciever which doesn't have a HDMI input. With this config, it would never play 5.1? Or just the file doesn't have dts soundtrack for the avr?

Have a plan to upgrade the avr. But my files will mostly be the downloaded ones with the same AAC. Hope newer recievers will handle this. Any input will be helpful.
