Asus O!Play Mini with DolbyTHD decoding, DTS HD-MA for just 3500!!

Guys, I just got an oplay mini today. I tried playing a ripped bluray with AAC 6 channels using optical cable to my Yamaha reciever which doesn't have a HDMI input. With this config, it would never play 5.1? Or just the file doesn't have dts soundtrack for the avr?

The player plays 5.1 channel over optical but not sure whether it supports the AAC format. Just check the manual if it supports it over optical. I think if you have the HDMI then you can use the bitstream option and the AVR will decode it but unfortunately there are no AVR's which can decode the AAC formats (as far as I know). But in my HTPC the MPC-HC software player converts the AAC format to DD5.1 and my AVR recognises it as I use it over HDMI. Try to convert the AAC to something like DD5.1 and use it over optical and your Yamaha should recognize it without any issues.

Does any model of Asus O! Play pass through Dolby TRUHD and DTSHDMA. Can any FM who have used it confirm please

I use O!play HD2, it can decoded the Dolby TRUHD and DTS HD MA and pass through also.
I use in pass through mode so that decoding is done by receiver.

Have a plan to upgrade the avr. But my files will mostly be the downloaded ones with the same AAC. Hope newer recievers will handle this. Any input will be helpful.

When playing movies with AAC multichannel sound track I choose LPCM over HDMI in my Oplay HD2, this sends PCM signals to receiver which is recognized by receiver. Same setting is available for SPDIF too.
Try selecting LPCM on SPDIF it should work.

What is the current price of the Asus O Play HD2 player now? Way back in 2011 I think it was around Rs.7500/- Any newer generation media player that has come out from Asus after this?

I just came across THIS review from Techtree, about Asus O Play mini that clearly states DolbyDigital THD passthrough AND decoding as well along with DTS MA, and all the regular formats available. read few reviews and I was pleasently surprised about the capability of this player and that to at a steal price of 3500 ....... any one out there bought this player, I want to get a solid confirmation about DD THD and DTS MA capabilities ........ I checked on their official site as well and it does states the same ...

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Multimedia - ASUS O!Play MINI

It seems the specification has changed now and the DTSHDMA and Dolby TruHD has been taken off from the specification list from the asus website.

WDTV also did not have DTSMA/TruHD passthrough prior to their last firmware. Somehow the licensing terms changed and they released a firmware allowing the HD audio to be passed through to the AVR.

Not sure whether Asus's lack of HD audio was also a result of licensing terms.

It is so conflicting as the earlier specification states that DolbyHD and DTSHD as pass through but the latest specification in the website is silent about this while some of our fellow members have confirmed that it supports both these HD audio after a firmware upgrade. However not sure why asus is not showing this in their specification.

Dude are you sure it decodes DTS HDMA as well?

I don't think it does:

Yes they have. I have the mini and when I play files with DTS HD MA, I only see "DTS" lit on Onkyo HTS3500's AVR :o

Good thing is that it supports Dolby TrudeHD and DTS but NOT DTS HD MA.

So all models of Asus does not support DTSHDMA or is this with this particular model Asus mini only?

Which media player supports both DTSHDMA and DolbyTruHD in the price range of around 10K?

Wdtv live streaming player does support it with the new firmware. Priced at around 7-7.5K
