Hi. I just got a new Denon 2113 and I don't want to use Audyssey, since it also sets the Sub woofer the lowest level. I don't why why.

I went to to Settings - Audio - Audyssey and set to OFF.
In that case, it should take my manual levels, right?

But it doesn't and I get very bad audio, only treble stuff.

I get good Audio with Audyssey on for Multi EQ XT and dynamic volume as medium, but still the bass is killed.

I'm not able to enjoy the movies at all. Absolutely no bass from sub woofer.

I went to Settings - Speakers - Audyssey Setup - Levels.
I see it has set sub woofer to - 12dB.
I guess that's why there is no bass.

Well is there a way we can edit that Audyssey levels?

Many times when you do auto set up,keep SW level(sub amp)as 12 O'clock or little lesser.
You need to try setup 2-3 times to get desired sound effect. Results may vary every time you do set up.Now you can even take reading with single sitting position & multi. I felt single position was giving better sound than many positions.Lastly even with Audyssey on ,you can adjust speaker levels manually.Try the best way & keep that as permenant solution.

Is there a way to switch off Audyssey completely and ask the AVR to take my manual settings and levels?

I don't want something to setup automatically and screw up the whole experience :(

Sub doesn't display the volume level. I can only increase and decrease from back of it and increase LFE to test.

The problem is, when I keep the Multi EX completely OFF, the AVR still doesn't take my manual levels. Why is that?

You are not getting bass from subwoofer because the front speakers are recognized as 'large' by the avr and so it will send all low frequency signal to the fronts instead of the sub. Set them as 'small'.

yes baiju is correct,
set speakers as 'small'.only then avr will send basses to sub...or it is sending whole into fronts......as you selected them large aka full rangers

I have set Woofer to LFE only, so that it only accepts lower freq of SPEAKERS set to SMALL .

For example , I have the CENTER and SURR set to SMALL, so all the LF signals which comes into CENTER and SURR should goto WOOFER automatically.

The FRONTS will only pick the LF, if I set it to LFE+MAIN , which I havent. :indifferent14:

So, settings look good to me , but there is something missing.

The problem is why would the AVR not pick up my manual levels, when AUD is off in MULTI EXT settings ?

I had submitted a ticket to Audyssey Helpdesk and they replied :

The reason the sub is at 12 dB is because the volume control is turned up way too high on the sub. Audyssey sets the subwoofer to reference level as it is calibrated in the studio. If the volume control on the sub is too high then Audyssey will set the sub lower to make it play at the same level as the other speakers. This is called reference level calibration.

If you want higher bass levels than reference you can simply turn up the subwoofer level in the AVR after the calibration.

ok is there any setting for fronts as small/large??
well this case happened to me also:p...aftger manual set i didnt get the desierd bass from sub..but when made auddsy on...got the desired effect.:o

Yes, option is there for FRONTS, but I always keep the FRONTS as LARGE.

Im sure, we are missing something, which is over riding Audyssey over the manual levels and not letting the manual to work ?

Im lost. Im sure, the ProFX guys would also have no clue, as they all dont seem that talented , except the hand to mouth stuff.

I have to do some R&D on this now :(

are bhai keep the fronts as small......only then avr will send bass to sub...otherwise it is sending bass to fs thinking it is a 3 way 0r 4 way....and let him handle the bass and so.....you send singnals to your sub only then it will sing.....

LARGE does not mean large speakers in terms of size. LARGE means the speakers should receive and are capable of entire frequency spectrum. Setting the front speakers to LARGE turns off bass management. Bass or LFE is also sent to fronts and not to sub-woofer.

When using a sub-woofer, the settings should be:

Front speakers: SMALL
Side surrounds: SMALL
Rear speakers: SMALL
Sub-woofer: YES or LFE

You can play with the s/w cross-over frequency to get the optimum sound.

As per my knowledge, 5.1 or 7.1 channel means there is separate channel (.1)
for low frequency which shouldn't be affected by the front speaker setting.
When you set the front as small, the low frequency sounds from front channels also are diverted to sub woofer. The problem with this setting is when you want to play music in only 2 channels the low frequencies will be missing.
My recommendation will be to set front as large so that the low frequencies in these channels will be played properly. Sub woofer will get the low frequencies coming from the .1 channel recording. If you feel the base is not adequate coming from the sub woofer, change the setting in the sub woofer or AV amp.

Sure, just go to the Setup menu and set Audyssey to off. The individual speaker levels can also be adjusted in the Setup menu. BTW, the levels are the least important (almost insignificant) part of setup. The most important part are the room correction filters that you will be turning off.
