Audyssey killing the whole experience :(

Read speaker manuals and then set the crossover frequency. Also if you are so concerned for Music, then their are always profiles.

As per my knowledge, 5.1 or 7.1 channel means there is separate channel (.1)
for low frequency which shouldn't be affected by the front speaker setting.
When you set the front as small, the low frequency sounds from front channels also are diverted to sub woofer. The problem with this setting is when you want to play music in only 2 channels the low frequencies will be missing.
My recommendation will be to set front as large so that the low frequencies in these channels will be played properly. Sub woofer will get the low frequencies coming from the .1 channel recording. If you feel the base is not adequate coming from the sub woofer, change the setting in the sub woofer or AV amp.

Many people have already given the correct way of setting up the speakers, but it seems you would like to apply your own logic. Just like they say everyone in India is an expert in cricket, similarly although you guys need help, still would not accept the answer and go with their own logic.

Hi the banik

Thanks for the comments. I am not an expert in cricket nor in AV.
I just said, If you put the fronts as small it will suffer playing low frequencies in 2 channel set up.
Anil.

Hi Anil,

There are only limited Fronts which can really play frequencies lower than 80Hz. So if you set the crossover frequency to 80Hz, then even in 2 channel setup you would not be losing anything. If your speakers are better, then maybe you can drop the crossover frequency to 60-70 Hz. Also another thing to note is that even though specifications might say capable of hitting 70Hz, its a good practice to keep crossover frequency a tad higher than the lowest possible with your speakers (ofcourse you can play around with the cross over frequency till you are satisfied)

If setup correctly AUDYSSEY can be the best thing to enhance your listening experience. Suggest to reset your system and then run audyssey exactly as specified with ALL speakers set to SMALL. You will not be disappointed if set correctly. Please follow the below link :

Multi EXT settings?

Switching that to NONE sounds like a local bus treble only system :D

I have a Denon 1912 and yes denon without Multi EQ / XT sounds terrible. Multi EQ / XT is a great feature actually once you understand its capabilities. Once auto set you may need to tweak the volume settings a bit on your own. It took me a while but I finally got the desired results. Just be a bit patient and play around with the settings a bit and you will see an improvement.

If you plan to use the Auto mode then sometimes you may have to run the Autosetup / Audessey 2-3 times to get a desired result. For best results use a simple camera tripod to hold the mic. I usually use 3 placement positions rather than all the 8. This again depends on your seating arrangements.

With reference to the Sub on 2 ocassions I too had faced the problem of -12db volume. You can either try and re-position the sub slightly and run Audessey again or just manually change the value. Sometimes cranking up the volume know on the sub too high affects this. Instead of 12 o'clock position try 10 o'clock position and see.

Also if needed you can switch off the Auto settings and enter Manual settings very easily. You will have to play around a bit to get your desired setting but manual settings definately work too. Dont forget to note down the settings once done for future reference.

I did some changes.
Set everything to SMALL.
Crossover all as 80Hz and Bass crossover as 110Hz.

And dis a reset to defaults for the manual tones and then again did setup the distance and levels.

Dint get much time, as Im getting married tomorrow , so just tried one bluray , Tron Legacy bike scene and it was good .

Still need to refine it. Will do it after marriage .

And will read the BatPig Dictionary very carefully as well.
Lets see.

Ha ha thanks.
I got a long 10 hours drive tomorrow to bride's place , so will read the Denon Manuals all the way on the iPad :)

Soamz,

You can use Audyssey with manual levels + crossovers.

First of all - set the gain on your subwoofer to lower than what it is now. For example, if the gain knob is at 12'O clock, change reduce it to 9'o clock.
Run the Audyssey calibration. The aim is to get subwoofer level as set by audyssey between 0 to -5db. Any lower and you have too much gain set on the subwoofer.

After you get the sub level right and audyssey has finished, go into the speaker setup. Set all the speakers to "small", subwoofer to "yes". bass mode or subwoofer mode to "LFE" Now, set crossovers for all speakers to 80 Hz, Lowpassfilter/LPF for LFE to highest available.

Leave audyssey on, and see if you like the sound. The above settings should send all the signals below 80 Hz to sub and all LFE signal to subwoofer. You can run some frequency test tones at 40 hz, 50 hz, 60 hz etc and see if those are being played by the sub.

And have a blissful wedding.

Ha ha thanks.

You are one crazy fellow to do this day before marriage . Any how i doubt you would get time for next 3 months :p.

Set the speakers to small
Set the crossover to 80Hz
Run the setup, at least for 2 or 3 times to ensure that you get consistent results.
After this, increase the volume of the Sub to the desired level.

This is what is done for Pioneer MCACC as well.
