captain have made payment to danny for the following items:
1.X-LS Encore Stereo speakers 1 pair ($149) 14 lbs
2.Sonic cap upgrade for X-LS speakers above($72.4)***
3.X-CS centre channel speakers($99) 12lbs
4.A/V 1RS Surround speakers($194.65) 14lbs
5.Subwoofer kit GRSW-12B+SA1 29lbs ($199)
***only the sonic caps upgrade for X LS is missing in your list rest is fine.
captain keep us posted on the cabinets getting made in chennai.

Nothing is forgotten. With USD becoming costlier by 25% and 35% customs, the cost advantage has been by and large negated. Hence, we are trying to source stuff through Peerless because of two things.

1. They are authorised to re-import them without paying any customs duties. If that doesn't work out,

2. Buy drivers that Peerless supplies Danny directly from Peerless and import only the balance stuff from Danny, of course with Danny's knowledge.
Sunit of Peerless has been sent a mail and we are waiting for him to come back. I'm not pushing him because it may be counter productive.

Might be difficult buying direct from Peerless. They are located in SEEPZ in Mumbai which is a SEZ [trivia: probably India's oldest SEZ]. But in India anything is possible.

I think there is some %age of export vs domestic that you can do. That was valid for STPI IIRC.

For one, Peerless makes these woofers for me 500 units at a time. They aren't going to run a small run of these.
Secondly, they only make those drivers for me. They are not for sale commercially via direct or any other source.
Thirdly, even if they did have drivers on hand, getting the right driver or group of drivers to each person would be a nightmare. There are at least 6 different drivers involved.
You guys have to keep in mind that these X series kits are already discounted to about half of their actual value and if everyone that has said that they want orders what they said that they wanted then the shipping cost is on me.
So even with the customs cost it is still a really good deal.

i for one think that what danny says is 100% true. also IMHO , not buying from danny after so much of his time we have used and his offer of free shipping, would be highly unethical. after all we are not just buying the kits we are using his knowledge and support for all kinds of info. and i think the only increment since all the dealing has been vis a vis dollar rupee exchange rate. so we can consider some options -- 1. we can wait till there is a more favourable exchange rate. 2. we can take a poll of how many r willing to buy at the current price and send the info to danny, remember danny is offering free shipping only if the final order is what the current order is. 3. let there be some free discussion.. thinking loudly ..my order total is approx. $1200/- so the rupee downfall has increased the bill by some 3600rs. adding customms etc at lets say 40% would make it to approx. Rs. 5000/- i myself would be quite willing to go ahead because, there is no way even at these prices we can get similar speaker systems in india. and if it is really hard for the members to digest the price increase i am sure there r ways they can save the money by spending less on some other items. like movies, pizzas etc.
one thing i can definitely tell u. the speakers r the only components in any HT or music setup which can safely be assembled. u get a 100k value speakers at 40-50k by going the DIY way, when u have good kits. here we have the best deal going ... can u even dream of getting such quality kits in india?
so we should decide before danny decides he is wasting his time with us.
This poll thingy is what I'd eventually do. As for now, putting my hope on fav reply from Sunit.
I was going through today's newspaper and noted that in the last 6 months, USD has gone up by 20 odd percent but Euro has gone up only by 8%. Pinging Danny if he would be willing to accept payment in Euros.

The clout of Danny's good offices and his dangling of some carrots has resulted in his Indian associates to consider helping us out in re-importing the drivers. They are in talks with customs officials and we may hear the good news soon.

Because of a sweet deal between Danny & Peerless, this would happen most likely. The only fly in the ointment is customs. Keeping my fingers crossed.
