Hi Guys,

Does anyone have an offline copy of the X CS Encore cabinet plans? If so could you please let me know, I will PM you my E mail id. The plan hosted on Audiocircle seems to be missing.

Thanks!

Hi guys
I completed the cabinets for x-Ls encore floor stander, but yet to do the finishing as I am not able to source Veneer which is less than 2mm width. I found veneer of 3mm or more which I feel will be difficult to paste on the cabinet.

Meanwhile I am not sure how to place the cross over board. Can it be in any convenient place? I find it difficult to fix on to the side walls and looks like it has to be on the back panel. Will the placement of cross over board have any impact on sound quality?

Excellent.. I really wonder how did you get that nice black finish ( assuming the speakers are done by you, as I did not follow this thread on to what are you all building ) :)
I got my drivers from peerless and would start my work this saturday :)

Hey, as you guys start your builds and have questions feel free to e-mail them to me.

Or if you start a new build thread for your project then please e-mail me a link to it and ask your questions in the build thread. That way I can not only answer your question but others that might have had the same question.

Thanks,

Hi
My build-in-progess pictures are here.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/...ms/5790502229074411569?authkey=CI2uoL_qr7_reg

Stuck due to following reasons:
- Not able to find 1mm veneer of black finish
- How to attach the X-over board to the box?, i should have done the drilling of holes for the X-over board before gluing it together. Now I cannot drill holes with a driller to attach the cross over board to side panel. Only alternative is to attach to back panel, the gap inside (width) within the bracing is slightly less than the width of the board. So it wont sit properly on back panel. Or I have to keep it to the very bottom of the cabinet, but if I have to take out cross over board for any reason later, it will be impossible once you glue the front baffle. So the ideal place is somewhere behind the woofer. Any ideas ?

Hai exljp,

U will not find a 1mm real wood veneer and for the cross over fixing. U can use the screw used for fixing gypsum board false ceilings. They don't need a drilled hole. U can simply screw them to the MDF as they r made for uses like tht. U can go to any decent hardware shop and ask for tht type of screws. I did tht for mine and worked fine..

Its wood screw (star). Also apply a small amount of fevicol on the thread before screwing.

Any ideas ?

Assuming you're using MDF cabinet, get yourself a stubby and sturdy screw driver, align the crossover wherever you decide to fix it, then tap lightly for each screw position to a depth of 2-3 mm using a hammer to lightly hammer down the screw you will be using to finally screw down the crossover, remove the crossover board, carefully screw down every tapped point by hand. You will expend some energy as there is no hole to begin with. You are making a screw hole with your bare hands and one small screwdriver:)

I used a Philips screw from the set below. Was not a cakewalk but certainly possible. It would be easier to do this with a 5-6 inch long screwdriver with a sturdy handle:

Tell us how it goes.

dont do that, you will not be able to take it out after that. what if there's a mistake in the xo. what if tomorrow you want to use a better cap or wire or whatever. i personally like to be able to remove the xo easily.

If u r gluing it u cant remove tht but if u r simply screwing it to the MDF panel u can remove it as and when required.. I simply screwed it with out applying glue.

Danny included two types of wood screws in the kit (covered in some black coating and therefore will not rust unless one scratches the black coating). The included screws are more than sufficient to screw the crossovers and drivers.

Jils,

I think the screw which Danny supplied is for fixing the drivers to the cabinet.. not for cross overs. The 2 different types r one for the tweeters and one for the woofers and he only supplied the right quantity required for the screwing them.

Fevicol will not make any problem in unscrewing it later, but will help in retaining the threads in the MDF.

IIRC, my kit had enough screws (Philips heads and hex heads) for all requirements. In any case, if you need to buy wood screws please insist on stainless steel type and not the regular tinned/galvanised type.
