Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

Normally, I do this by Sawdust and wood glue(fevicol). Mix them to paste , apply in layer, press flat to required depth. let it dry overnight.

The worst part of this endeavor is Laziness !!!
besides Time.

I would suggest, go to tyre puncture shop and look for old tube from truck tyre. Take piece of it to cobbler. Cut required circle to be filled below driver. In place of rubber you can use felt too. Or if thickness is fixed then piece of 3mm veneer will do. Remaining space covered with driver installing foam tape. From me only last option worked fine for <1mm adjustments.

Since foam sheets are highly porous and do not have substantial mass, they would get compressed unevenly and may not be able to provide a air tight seal. Using a rubber gasket sheet would be a better option. These would be available in hardware stores.
I do not think you and I are speaking about the same "foam". I have used it before and it works well. Uneven compression is not a function of the material alone. The foam is closed cell and does provide an air tight seal.
Some tweeters are available with a thinner version of this on the back of the flange.

Status is pending.

Waiting to see if someone is ready for a "group make" in Bangalore or in Chennai.

As far as my build at Trivandrum is concerned, the progress is slower than snail's pace mainly due to work pressure as I'm catching up with more than two years' pending work at the new work place.

I'm pursuing with the local carpenter who was willing to help me out. Though he is already neck deep in work, he is likely to take it up shortly.

As regards group making at Chennai/ Bangalore, I came to know that the main carpenter working for a Chennai based manufacturer of hifi systems has moved out and working as a freelancer. If someone at Chennai is willing to pursue with him, I can get the contact details and pass it on.

I would suggest, divide the goal in 5 steps and work slowly. Decide who does what. Known and unknown of each goal could be targeted easily. May be many people (specialist for each task) could be located.

(Keep all pieces in water tight environment)

Goal 1. Get flat pack cut. Keep safe
Goal 2. Get holes done, backside prepared.
Goal 3. Pasting it together.
Goal 4. Getting it finished - veneer or color or polish.
Goal 5. Actual driver mounting.

Grill? I never able to find time for that.

Small goals could be achieved easily. ;)

Hi, I would like to join the group Build/ Sourcing. I havent gone thru the whole conversation, will do that tommorow. I am a novice but would like to try this speaker build session. We have a workshop in near our place and can try doing some wood work on weekends. I am near (Yashwantpur/ Mathikere / Malleshwaram in Bangalore sorry Bangaluru from today ;-))

After fixing my Tannoys, I'm now concentrating my efforts on making my 5.1 kit. I got hold of a carpenter who has quite an experience in making speaker boxes for theatres. I have few questions.

1. I've got a quote of 26K for the 5.1 kit complete with veneer and polishing. My role would be limited to general supervision, to catch mistakes if any, at the insepient stage so that it doesn't get escalated and amalgamated into the final product. Is this a reasonable price?

2. I intend to use rockwool instead of glasswool. I checked their website but unable to figure out which product of theirs should I ask for. I'd be glad if someone could guide me.

3. Moreover, my carpenter is only familiar with glasswool. Where in Trivandrum/Kerala could I source rockwool? Their website has not listed anyone in Kerala. Could someone provide me pointers?

I'd be obliged to have some replies.

Captain, cost wise it 26K for 5.1 look okay to higher side - considering all cutting, gluing and polishing. Also I assume it includes all internal linings and driver installation too. Only point is he cares about measurement accuracy and bracing. No "Chalta Hai" attitude! for 2 BS I paid 900 per box for only polish (inclusive material).

Rockwool is also same as glasswool, soundwise no problem.

Labor cost in Kerala is twice as of Pune. A bit of bargaining is necessary.
However for accuracy a CNC cut is must. This is my personal opinion after doing two enclosures.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
