Best ever deal for loudspeaker kits.

Finishing: automotive paint. About 5 layers:-) hand buffed after each layer. I'm thinking deep, deep blue (almost black), lickably glossy.

Are you planning on implementing Khusroo's crazy cab idea? Using MDF?

Wanna make it a wee bit crazier? Why not front and back baffles of 25mm Al? Or perhaps 19 mm ones to cut down a bit on the cost? But it must be H9 gagrade (so called aircraft-grade Al)!

if you find someone who is willing to do 5 layers of paint with hand buffing after each coat LET ME KNOW
I asked my automotive painter - he started laughing!:p

yes i have incorporated what khushro explained but in an alternative way.
I havent done everything since if i did, the cab will cost me easily much MORE than the kit - that too without the finishing (venear or paint )
im already not far from the kit cost as it is

aluminium was always my pet material - but a 19mm aluminium billet of the above grade will cost me serious money
im still thinking about it - not yet ready to jump

jls001 - hope you have given my details correctly so the kit comes to me and doesnt lay in chennai for the cab build

Not all people have responded. We need to inform Danny regarding this so that the documentation is made accordingly. The following individuals have not given their option. Kindly do it imdt.

One request - Please can you give a confirmation as to what all you will be shipping for every one of us before you give the stuff to the shipping company, just to make sure that nothing / no one gets missed out.

I know you are trying to do it verify what all orders you recoginze by putting in your comments on Captain's google sheet. But just wanted to request that we must do it before shipping.

One more question that all of us have :) In your view by when should we expect the shipment to reach India?

@ Captain,

I have ordered a subwoofer kit only and I am from Mumabi, can Mumbai members also get cabinets built from Chennai? In your view will that be a good option than getting the cabinets built in Mumbai ? Also I also read in one of the post above that you are trying to negotiate a deal on cabinets as it will be bulk order. Can you please share some details on the same and can you also advise if Mumbai members can be part of it ?

Thank you both.

Naren

Hi Captain,

I would like to pull out from Chennai-made cabinets as here FM Flash extended his expertise to rescue me and Sachin to build pair of boxes each. We exchanged our thoughts and design. Flash mentioned it in post (item#1) here

Please make mine and Sachin's name minus from the list of Cabinets. We would like to receive the kit and fit in the boxes made locally. Other than solving practical difficulty of safely sending heavy boxes-n-packaging, this will give us with some of DIY satisfaction in the project.

Warm Regards,

I cannot say whether the one organised by me is good or the Mumbai one. If you can get someone competent to build the cabinets at Mumbai, I suggest you go ahead and do it as you will save on transportation of heavy kits + cabinets.

As far as details of the cabinets at Chennai is concerned, I cannot share any details now as I have not made any plans till date but am confident of making it happen.

I will be going over the list you guys have made and make sure I have orders from everyone listed there.

The voyage itself will take about 3 weeks on the water. Logistics involving getting it from here to the port. loaded, etc. could take a good week. I will know more about arrival times and stuff once I get it picked up and on its way.

Two of the larger orders are left and I will have all of this stuff packed up.

6 Ayes, 11 Nays and 7 can't say. Going by the comments made by the 7 who can't say, they can be safely added to the 11 nay sayers. The 3 abstentions does not matter and the issue is settled.

@tally3tally, your suggestion is well taken but will have to go by the majority here.

We will go with the original plan. Hope everyone is in agreement here.

Hi Capt, What about Hyderabad guys ? Can you ship the finished cabinets for us or do you want to look for local carpenters?? So even if we opt for local cabinets, how do you plant to send the packages to Hyderabad. I understand there are 3 XLS-Encore speaker buyers from Hyderabad.

If you guys can look for a local carpenter, nothing like it; not only can you have your own choice of materials and finish but would also save you on the courier charges. However, because economies of scale, Chennai build is going to be cheaper.

Your post has got me thinking. I'm thinking of making three types of cabinets.

1. Plain MDF boxes.
2. MDF with bare bone matt finish.
3. MDF with veneer (with one finish for the sake of practicality in procurement and working resulting in better cost effectiveness.
4. Piano Glass finish (Black)

More ideas are welcome from those who have opted for the boxes.

Capt - I think I will go with finished Chennai cabinets for my encores. Black piano, cherry, white piano all are fine for me.

But will build the sub locally as it would get really heavy.

Thanks Captian,

I guess I will keep both the options open for now as i dont know of anyone in Mumbai who can build the sub woofer cabinet for me

Please do share more details about Chennai cabinets when you think the time is appropriate .. I will be waiting :)

Naren

We are not sure about whether we should go with Chennai cabinets or local made ones. This weekend we shall be visiting the guy who makes cabinets and decide. Btw keep us posted on the types of finishes available for Chennai guys.

thanks,
