Hi all,

After dreaming for a long while, I have kept 1 lac for buying a decent pair of floor standers and a receiver. (I will take remaining components later only as and when money comes). I am a newbie in this field. So kindly help me in this.
I need a FS which has a very heavy bass :) . In this busy life of ours we hardly get half an hour per day for music and I want to blast those 30 minutes. I listen to trance/techno/rock and soft tunes also. But my main listening will be dance/techno, etc with a heavy bass. So kindly let me know which FS gives the max bass and my budget for FS + receiver is 1 lac. I dont want sub now and dont want to increase or decrease the 1 lac budget. Kindly help me out. Current room size is 20 x 15, and I might move to another house with bigger area. Eagerly waiting for the replies. (As I hv to purchase it at the earliest before the fund vaporises :) )

Do you want a receiver or a stereo amp will also do ?
What is your room size? What components do you already have?
Do you want to hear the lowest frequencies possible or do you want a good 'thump' in music?

if you are bass head, i would suggest to invest in a very good sub along with Bookshelf and very good stereo amp to start with. Later you can upgrade to a FS when you have the budget or feel the need.

check various thread to see the options. Also, consider the pre-owned if you are starting first. Will help you gauge at a lesser cost.

Hi, thanks for the immediate response.

I need a receiver because I will add subwoofer and other components in future, but wont be able to do it now because of financial situations.

I dont have any components with me now  .. I want that good punch which we get in stage shows in which the we feel the vibration in our chest like those 1 lac watt JBL speakers pumping out, ( I think its that good thump you are asking about) (ok, now you might have understood I really lack technical knowledge in this field, but I am able to enjoy this sound, so I will be happy :) ). Clarity of each instruments are imp, but I know that I cant ask for everything with this limited budget, so I will be happy with the thump.:)

And regarding room size, I have three options in my new home, one of 25x25 (hall) and another small area of 12 x 15 and 16 x 20.

Hifimart has some good offers on receivers and speakers. What you need is a good subwoofer. Sonodyne is good value for money. For the real bass feel you should plan for REL sub in future (they are expensive).
25x25 room may cause problems with standing waves so I would suggest not using that room.

Hi Shivam,

Thanks for the response. Ok, I will add some more money and get a sub immediately. So which FS could be good. I hv heard about RT A7 from Polk, PSB T6, Wharfedale 10.6, etc, . So which one do you suggest for my requirements (I will try to audition, but limited time requires auditioning very less brands. So kindly suggest as per your experience and knowledge). Also kindly suggest a decent receiver which pairs along with the FS you are suggesting. Really appreciate your inputs for the same.

Thanks and regards,
Binish L

Binish,

There are plenty of AV stores in bangalore, best is to get your own CD and go listen to as many speakers as you can.

All you need is

A Good pair of bookshelf speakers.
Integrated amp with sub out.
Good source CDP/DAC .
A pair of speakers stands and some good interconnects.

Thanks
Kittu

Best suggestion this. AND a good sub too!

+1 To Kittu,

1.Source(Hope you would use your Laptop or Mobile better if you have CD Player)
2.DAC Is required to be added in your set up
3.Integrated Stereo Amp with 30-40K Budget,Marantz,Creek,Nad CA are some i recall at this point of time.
4.Bookshelfs for amp(30-40)Kef q300 ,Epos Epic 2,Mezzo 2,Usher should give a decent Bass.
5.Sub would give you what you actually you looking for,But for 20K you could get a decent Entry level Sub.

All over all Please make sure you have the CD's or Flacs as Source

follow kittu and audio freaks suggestions..
perfect for your need.
i just want to say..no sub..2.0 system delivers better music than 2.1..well thats personal opinion

Try the Focal Chorus 82x Series . You will enjoy the heart thumpy bass . These will be little more than a Lakh.

Ensure that you listen with the good Amplifier and Source .

binish - what ever speaker amp set up you go for make sure it matches . if it doesnt match you had it. for eg. yamaha amp is on the brighter side so dont ever go for a bright speaker. go for a warm speaker. yamaha goes well with wharfedale, cause those are warm speakers. yamaha and polk is a serious no no. telling you from my personel experience. polk and denon go well.

Binish,

I m no expert in suggesting. Just started taking auditions to find the best speakers that will suite my budget and taste.
Speaker performance is very subjective. It will differ from person to person. You have to take auditions and decide which speakers will give you the bass response which will satisfy you. Also you have to keep in mind that the performance of a speaker in a demo room and in a normal room will be very different. Listen to FMs and take their opinions, take auditions and decide it yourself. You have a decent budget, choose wisely.

As designation said, marriage between amp/receiver and speaker is very important.

SVS is right. Onkyo,Yamaha Seems to be brighter side,I have used Denon,Yamaha,Kenwood,Nad,Rotel Too matching with Jbl's 80's Speaker.

I would Say- Nad gave good bass(Extra) and DENON and Kenwood the Right Bass,Rotel and Yamaha were on manageable Bright and Onkyo was too bright for Me.

For your interest you could go with the Floor standers+Amp combo and later if the bass isnt enough could add Sub.

Also audition before you finalize. Just keep on the success pairs in list and check one By one.

Marantz or Denon should be Musical paring with Lot of choice of speakers. For Yamaha and Onkyo Whrafs should be the best pair.

OP, What you seek is hard to achieve if you want it done correctly and not just one big loud mess. To get it done right requires much to be done correctly starting from having excellent time domain behavior for the cabinets to correctly time aligned speakers/subs to a "punchy" frequency response to the right room treatments.

I would highly recommend increasing the budget and looking at professional speakers, amplification,DSP,measurement gear and room treatment. Also read up online to get a better understanding of the science of audio.

Thanks all very muchh for the replies.. I expected a single word answer from everyone and all have put their expertise into this, which has made me decide to take time and doing auditioning. I will seek support and help during the auditions and support me when i go wrong.. I will increase the budget slightly but will try to close it under 1.25 lacs. If any more combinations are coming across mind, pl do share the same..

i wonder how come Klipsch hasnt come up as a suggestion specially when the OP is asking for Boom Boom kind sound.

i feel Klipsch should be on the Top ;) they are known for their signature boom boom sound and are well in the budget of 1 lakh. but since they are bright... errr very bright.. need a warmer amp.

yes klipsch are fine..true..
consider that also as option
problem with klipsch is either you will love it or hate it..no in between
;-)

I am a newbie and have just started researching 4-5 weeks ago, so please take my words with a pinch of salt but I would agree with prosenjit.
I auditioned the Polk RTI A7's at Profx this week with Denon PMA 520 AE and I was completely blown away. Even though the Amp is rated not very high, I really liked the sound in comparison to the Jamo+Marantz combo..
The sound was just right to me, and since I might not be able to afford anything more at the moment, I am seriously considering this combo.
The combo would probably fit your budget, but I don't think you will have the provision of adding the sub later.
I guess, for people like us ->Auditioning is the best way forward!
