Hi,

After long research i decided to buy Onkyo HT4505. But price seems to be too high and onkyo dealer quotes 39k. Somewhere in forum i read 32.5k for same.

Can you guys suggest me where i could get best price in chennai?

is my choice of onkyo HT 4505 is good? My budget is around 30k

I first decided to go with 3400/3500. since 3400 lacks usb and 3500 lacks audyssey, i decided for 4505.

This is my first home theater and i need your help

Friends can you help me?

There is no point of spending 40k for a HtiB. An AVR like Denon 1612 (around 26k) and Boston Acoustics Soundware XS (24k) will give you much better sound.
You can also choose Denon DHT-1312XP hometheatre.

If you have a 40K budget, then you can always go for the separates.

You can get a very good receiver in Yamaha 371 (or) 373 and get the Jamo S426 HCS3 speaker package. The Jamo has 2 Floor standing speakers, 1 center, 2 surround speakers. You don't even need a separate sub woofer for this setup. The floor standing speakers have enough bass to rattle. Its the real value for money.

Yamaha 371 - Rs. 18,000/-
Jamo S426 HCS3 - Rs. 20,000/- (If you bargain can get at Rs. 18,000/-)

You can get the both at Reliance Digital in Chennai itself. Believe me they will give you very good HT experience.

Went to reliance digital and auditioned onkyo 3400, denon 1312xp and yamaha 196rt.

i liked onkyo 3400 and denon 1312. Since they didnt have onkyo 4505, i couldn't audition it.

They quoted 32k for denon 1312 with hdmi cable and 3.5 mm jack as offer.

Got onkyo 4505, they didnt get stock and might be priced as 33k.

will onkyo 4505 be better than denon 1312? Showroom guy said that speakers of onkyo 4505 and 3400 are same and only diff is receiver. Anyone has idea on onkyo 4505?

If you have auditioned denon 1312xp and liked the sound then I advise you to buy Denon. If the Onkyo 3500 and 4505 has same speakers, the the sound quality won't be better than 3500. Because I have demoed Onkyo hts 3500 and did not like the sound. The speakers are minus point of Onkyo system. Their frequency response is very poor. I would advise you to look for Yamaha YHT 298 which is much better than Onkyo.
Denon 1312xp with HDMI cable is good offer. But you can buy a 200 rupees HDMI cable and negotiate for Denon for 31000/-

The showroom guy has said so. But he doesn't have stock of 4505 to take a demo.

Yes i can bargain get denon @31k. But waiting to audition 4505 and take a decision.

Rupam or any one auditioned 4505?

Rupam,

I checked with onkyo website and the speaker for 3500 and 4505 is different

4505 uses 558 receiver and speakers

while 3500 uses 391 receiver and speakers

Showroom guy might not had proper knowledge on this

You can goto the Onkyo show room, at Chennai. I have given below the address of the dealer. You can demo the 4505 there.

ONKYO
#49, Kasturi Rangan Road,
Alwarpet,
Chennai-600 018.
Tel:044 - 2467 1921, 4211 1648, 4211 1649, 4205 9044

There are different speakers are used for 3500 and 4505. But I don't know how much it will be different in sound quality.

The advantages 4505 have
1) It has active sub woofer
2) The very good receiver
3) Audyssey 2EQ

So, demo the 4505 and compare it with Denon 1312XP.

Thanks Jaivelu, very good points to consider 4505.

I will audition it during this week. But i dont see anyone till now who auditioned it. anyone who auditioned it can share their views?

though 4505 has active sub, is it upgradable to 7.1 like denon 1312xp?

Onkyo 4505 has some more important features...

3) ARC (Audio return channel) feature via HDMI (Denon 1312XP don't have this)
4) 3D Video via HDMI (Denon 1312XP don't have this)
5) WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) Gives Even Higher Fidelity
6) Front USB port for music listening
7) Microphone for Audyessy included (you can use it to configure the speaker setting according to your listening positions)

7) It has got "Front B" speakers setup.

Please take a look at the rear of the receiver of 4505. It has got "Front B" output which you can use it for "Front High" (or) Rear surround setup. (IMO there is not a lot of 7.1 channel source materials available. So, its not that important)

From the above, you can notice the (a) ARC & 3D video via HDMI, (b) Audyssey auto setup are not available in Denon 1312XP.

So, audition the Onkyo 4505 in their showroom at Chennai and if you liked the sound then bought it.

Also take a look at Yamaha 298 Home theater package. The Yamaha HTs are known for their sound quality.

The Yamaha also has Yamaha 196 HT which only cost 19K or even less. You can audition them both at Reliance Digital or at Yamaha Show room at chennai.

When was this model launched? its not available in reliance digital and croma in chennai. i guess only onkyo dealer in chennai has the stock. have any one in chennai auditioned this set?

The Onkyo 4505 is a recently launched model. So, its availability may be limited to their Authorised Dealers. Please check with the Onkyo Dealer at Chennai. I think its in Teynampet.

Huh.... here is the address:

Ask them through phone whether the 4505 is available with them or not. Then go for the audition. Also take a look at Yamaha HTs.

Just spoke to ONKYO guys about 4505 Package. It is available for Audition now and they are quoting it around 38K.

Any 4505 owners here? Kindly share your experience. I'm in a dilema with Denon1312xp vs this 4505

I did bargain with that Onkyo guy today and rounded off with 35K as final prices inclusive of taxes.

I yet to get audition for the same and will buy it mostly by this weekend

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
