Hi All,

I plan to buy a 42'' TV by tomorrow.

I am confused between the following two options:

1: Panny X20 Plasma 42'' (Not an HD TV)

2: Toshiba RV600 Full HD LCD/Videocon 42'' Full HD LCD

Would appreciate your expert advice at the earliest.

Cheers,
CD

not sure if the videocon one is plasma. I saw videocon full hd lcd working. Compare them side by side. I found the picture quality of x20 much better than videocon.

Sorry Guys for the wrong info. The Toshiba and Videocon are LCD. I am not decided on Plasma or LCD. I can pick either of them as they are priced almost the same.

I was totally decided about X20 (which is not FULL HD) till I got to know that Toshiba and videocon are offering FULL HD LCD for the same price.

Please share your experience, I just have about 14 hours to buy.

Bro go for Full HD,

In today's time when you actually going for an upgrade from a t.v,Why not do it full throttle[Keeping the financial constraints].

At the end of the day,no matter what manufacturer you are buying you will find you are getting almost the same thing for the same price by different manufacturers.

But you should also know that there are some serious players who definately provide you a good product for the money you are paying.
Sony and panasonic are to name some.

What % of the time will you watch blue ray dvd's or Full HD media (1080p downloads) or HD dvd rip

What % of the time will you watch regular media (cable/set top)

What is daily viewing hours ?

I would say stick with Panasonic X20 or Samsung c450(if you want some USB extras) instead of a full hd from the brands you mentioned.

Of course you first need to decide whether you want plasma.

If you watch more of regular cable TV(SD content) go for LCD. If you prefer to watch more hd rips and ignore the SD quality go for plasma. Simple :).

Follow what your heart says at the end of the day,Why invest in something which is gonna be part of the past soon?

Why not buy full HD?

Will you be buying an LCD for next couple of years?
Why not spend some extra bucks for the technology that will boom in no time soon!
Besides blu ray is the next thing.

Was in the same dilemma last Diwali. Finally bought LG 50PQ70 from Croma(sticker price was 64K!!!), a 50 inch plasma for 50K, along with a free dvd player, free hdmi cable & 50 movie dvd etc. Haven't regretted it even for a minute. Can't thank the forum enough for setting me on the right path.

My considerations were
  1. Budget 60K (finally spent only 50)
  2. Don't watch too many movies on DVD/VCD
  3. Blu ray players and disks were too expensive.
  4. Watch movies or sports on TV - at the time of buying no HD content was available on cable.
  5. Biggest screen within budget.

If you do not watch too many blu rays and like watching sports, go with the plasma. The best bang for the buck. There's a great deal going on this forum for a 50in Samsung plasma thru some Hyd dealer which looks really tasty. LG also has a new 50 in plasma around 60K which is supposed to be pretty good and slimmer than my PQ70.

My advice to you would be to go to the showroom with an open mind and compare plasma and LCD for both DVD's and satellite. I don't think you should go by the negative comments like plasma being last year's technology and LCD/LED being the holy grail.

The forum has many many members who swear by panasonic plasmas, do your research. Finally bargain hard, don't kust go to ne Croma/ezone and buy. SOmetimes neighbourhood shops may have a better price. Once you have a lower offer, Croma/ezone will also happily negotiate with you. And ask shamelessly for freebies - DVD players, dvd's, hdmi calbles etc are sometimes there for the asking. I spent one entire month researching and then negotiating but it was well worth it in the end. All the best.

The eternal question. Do bear in mind that you are buying a 42 inch TV where most people will say full HD and HD ready wont make much difference unless you are going to sit very close to the display.

I don't know why someone has to take things personally when the mere purpose of this forum is to infuse ideas and express oneself.Referring FULL HD as latest and more upfront tech is no offence i guess.

If someone is going to buy an LCD monitor for his PC,i hope 99 % will avoid a CRT.
Not because its an older technology but because it has got its own sets of negatives.

Why recommend somebody something just because its cheaper.

Well its all about the taste after certain criteria,Its not about FULL HD/HD READY,
Its about features that suits you best. For sure a Plasma can deliver better contrast than an LCD/LED[You cannot shun LCD for that matter],Neither it is otherwise, considering the positives of an LED/LCD.

I expressed what i felt when i started to think of buying an LCD,and went little overboard my budget at the time of purchase not just for the sake of FULL HD but because of my own wish and need.

Thanks guys!

I have bought a Panny X20 and now I want a media player/audio system that accepts Bluetooth input for music.

I checked the populat WD TV but it doesn't support this feature. I researched some of the common AV recievers, they don't support either.

I researched on the net that Wireless Audio recievers are available for about GBP 20-30 in UK. Is a similar product available in India?

Cheers,
Chakshu

I guess you should end the discussion here and continue your new question in the appropriate section:)
