hi all,

i moved to hyderabad six months back and couldnt find any store in hyderabad who rent blu ray disc.

i know lot of members will have their own blu ray movies and it would be good if we can start sharing them between us.

we can start a group and share the movies between us. members can either rent movies for money or they can have credits and use that credit for future renting. I want your inputs and idea on how we can do this.

if anybody interested in hyderabad for movie sharing, please share your names and the movie list.

thanks,
edwin

i seriously doubt we got any store that rent BDP...

i found an alternate way....

download..lolz...

not sure but at the most i know.. not-anyone in madhapur-somajiguda-jublieehills...

It is there in the forum, check out a thread with the words coffee rights :) would probably be in AV or General lounge to find ppl who are interested in renting.

Guys - I was driving near Nagarjuna circle - going towards punjagutta from Jubilee Hills and just near Chutneys I saw a sign that said Blu Rays for rent. Did not have time to investigate, but if any one does please let me know. I would like to join a lending group.
Cheers
Sid

You could be right and the sign may be old, but I saw the sign 2 weeks ago. Worth checking out I suppose. I will try as well.
Ironhorse please update if you check it out.
Cheers

i will try to update asap i get any info on it.. will also ask my friend to check on it as he stays nearby.. in banjara hills.

Good to see, few of you have opted to share your collections. I would like to know your inputs on lending DVD / Blu Ray collections.

Thanks,
Edwin

okies i am here again.. checked a cpl of places.. but most of em are still into DVD business.. not into blue ray lending.... still not able to check on with banjara hills and jubliee hills..

checked in madhapur , kukatpally... probably that can be one of the cause...

so m still going through the alternate way.. of downloading huge dumps of 50 gig each..

We shall probably find blu-ray rentals when the next generation disc format arrives worldwide. When DVD was the epitome of quality, we used to get VCD on rent. Now that BD is on the scene, we are (just about) getting DVDs.

But that is hardly surprising:

Incident 1: One day I was shopping in Crossword for movies. I saw a guy buying VCD. I asked him why he is buying VCD when superior quality DVD is available and that too for just Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 (moser-baer, etc.). He said that all he wants is to watch the movie and couldn't care less about the quality. He said the VCD is just Rs. 20-22 and that is all he wants to pay. He said that he is buying official VCD because the footpath vendor sells very crappy quality. Well, at least he had some attribute to award to quality.

Incident 2: I once went to rent "Golmaal 3". The rental guy handed me the VCD. I said that I wanted a DVD. Kyon saheb jyaada paise kharch karte ho? Koi fark nahi hai dono mein. (Why are you spending more money, Sir? There is no difference between the two). Yet, I insisted. Well, actually he did not have a DVD copy with him. He said that no one wants a DVD.

Other factors:
  1. Rental is a business of volumes. How many people own a BD player?
  2. What advantage does a BD offer? Better PQ? Well most don't care about PQ. All they want is to watch a movie. People are happy with camera-prints for crying out loud.
  3. How many people have a good HT to enjoy the HD sound? Not many? Then why bother with a blu-ray?
But all hope is not lost. There are online rentals that may be of some aid to us.

Guys I have given up as well. I searched a bit in Jubilee hills area and Banjara Hills - but could not find any place. In fact a DVD rental place near my house (near jubilee hills club) also shut down. So I bought a Media player and am using that route. Whenever I travel to US, I buy a few BR's from Amazon but that is about it. So I do not have any latest movies on BR disc. Of-course one can go to Landmark and pay 1200 for a movie that one may not like, but unfortunately I cant afford that. just4kix is right in his observations:sad:
Cheers

Yes sid,

THe one near the jubilee hills club is closed down. Now I rent from the place called FRIBZEE, it is exactly opposite to jalagam vengal rao park near nagarjuna circle. I checked with them too, They do not have BR discs for renting out. But collection of DVDs is quite good there.

For all these restrictions i have not gone into buying blue ray disc player.

Thanks

with a network of friends, we can create a collection of blue ray movies which each of the group members can share.

There are logistic problems like, whom to take care of the inventory and all. That can be done on a rotation basis, Like every month the inventory changes from one person to next person.

Also each of the group members need to buy a Blue ray disc a month. That way we will be able to increase the inventory.

Any other ideas and anybody intrested ??

Blu rays are very expensive only way we can enjoy these would be sharing.

Let me know your opinion.

Thanks

That's a good idea.

Other simple one which we use in our blue collar labour company is

1. Create a collective list of inventory
2. One can lend free of cost if he contributes one to the inventory list. For instance,if I contribute 10 to the list, I can lend 10 movies for free.
3. Others should pay 50 bucks for lending the movie.
4. It's mandatory to pay a nominal amount to join the group.

Money maintenance will be a problem. Better way would be pay membership amount every month and using the money we can buy more discs.

For people who contribute blue ray discs, they should be given concession regarding the membership amount. for example if anybody has contributed 10 movies, then he would get 5 months of free membership.

May be we need to talk more and see how many are interested.
