Calibration for Velodyne SPL Ultra 1200

Hi Friends,

One of my friends has purchased a used velo sub which has its own calibration mic. He has a Denon 2XXX series receiver & wanted to know how to go about the calibration process since the receiver also does the calibration for subwoofer. Should he calibrate the sub along with the other speakers through the receiver or through the subwoofer itself.
Also is it advisable to use just a single RCA cable from the Subwoofer out of the receiver to the LFE input on the subwoofer or a "Y" cable for more signal as per the manual page attached (Didn't understand this). So dosen't the LFE carry adequate signal ?
Can someone please advise. Thanks.

You need to connect a single subwoofer cable from avr subout to sub lfe and run the audessey of the avr for calibration of all speaker and sub together.

Using a Y cable to subwoofer, will help with few dB's of more output than you would get it with the same volume level with a single input cable..

You haven't listed the model.. Better would be to use the subwoofers EQ if any first to eliminate some resonance and then calibrate again with Audyssey as one would do usually..

Thanks for the input. The Model is Velodyne SPL Ultra 1200. So basically the "Y" cable from the subwoofer Line in goes into the subwoofer out in the receiver. Would ask him to Calibrate from the Denon then.

Subwoofer built-in calibration might give better results..
Or both can be used..
Depends on the frequency response you are achieving after Calibration.
Flatter the response, better the bass.

Thanks Prateek. Calibrations can be done using both. With the subwoofer set to 120 hz & Receiver at 80 hz crossovers. I guess he may need to experiment.

Checking the frequency response post calibration will tell you the true story.

I agree with @elangoas. First use the sub calibration. Do this with audyssey set to off. Once done, rerun audyssey.
The idea is to get as flat as response first with sub calibration. Then leave the rest to audyssey including phase match. Once audyssey is done, crossover needs to be rechecked and levels to be slightly tweaked as per personal preference.
