Hi Friends,

Could you please let me know your expert suggession on the below topic ;

Can I play Sonodyne Sonus 2605 ( 130 W at 8 ohm impedance ) speaker with Denon 2113 ( 85 W per channel at 8 ohm impedance ) by making bi-amped ?And also please do let me know - does this mean the receiver on this occasion remits 170 W ( 85 * 2 ) for that particular bi-amped speaker ?

Thanks in advance...

Arijit, if you are considering bi-amping then it means your inclination is stereo, why not then go for dedicated stereo amp? Personally I play Aviano 6 which is 150 Watts / 8 ohms FS using Denon 1911 normally which is 90 Watts at 8ohms but I can safely say now that a CA AZUR 650A stereo amp delivering 75 wpc at 8ohms drives avianos better. So do not think of whether it will drive, it will do surely but sonically / musically whether it will surpass another higher rated amp is not certain until auditioned. I have even read that the Rega Brio-R delivering mere 50 wpc at 8ohms drives FS very well. Nevertheless you may also refer to this old discussion on HFV that happended years back http://www.hifivision.com/surround-...44-underpowered-amps-vs-overpowered-amps.html when we were in a similar dilema.

Regarding your other question on power doubling in bi-amp refer to this thread http://www.avsforum.com/t/1252137/can-bi-amping-overpower-speakers

The important point being, when you are doing bi-amping you are ideally using 4 channels of the AVR instead of 2 where each channel is delivering same power (ideally) to individual drivers dedicated for highs /mid and lows. So individual driver still gets the power of one channel only. Moreover these power ratings of AVR unless it is a costly one has lot of fineprints, when some says it is x watts per channel it might not be for all channels driven together just 2 channels at the most may be. So in bi-amping you would not get that same power for all 4 channels.

Thanks a lot Saikat for our reference. I was going through the links you have provided. I come to know that what I really meant previously by "By-Amping" - is actually "Bi-Wiring". In my case - I will be having 1 Amp with 7.1 channel to drive my 5.1 channel system. The rest 2 channels of the amp I will be using for front 2 tower speakers making Bi-Wiring. Please confirm whether my understanding is correct or not. Since I am using SINGLE amp and NOT 2 AMPs to drive the same speaker - it is BI-Wiring - correct ?

Thanks in advance.

do note, IMHO, bi amping does not have much benefits in terms of how the speaker sounds. Power is power! Biamping is used when connected normally it does not supply sufficient power, then the speakers will seem to sound different, while it actually needs more power.
This tends to happen when amp and speakers are not matched well. Also, when someone tends to use a used receiver that they alreadyy have with a pair of speakers that dont match well.

No, your is bi-amping. To further reduce the confusion refer to the diagrams below

Bi-Amping (via AVR) when 4 output channels are utilized (2 fronts and may be 2 surrounds)

Bi-Wiring (only 2 output channels are in use, just the wiring part is done twice)

for total music need a 20k int amp is way better than a 50k avr.
however you can consider a avr with pre outs(pretty cosyly)...and use an int amp in the chain
