I am making this post with great reluctance.
In the initial stages of this thread we were all discussing DAC, NOS and such issues and comparing notes. Spirovious has been, for some time, showing desperation to get a good DAC. Around posting No. 95 or so we started dicussing Beresford DAC. I started doing some surfing to get some information on the Beresford. At the same time, I wrote to Stanley about HifiVision, and our interest in his product. He replied saying he will offer discounts if we get together and buy in bulk. Just as I was smiling with the good news, I came across a number of forum discussions that, to me, were disturbing. One, in particular, said that the Beresford DAC was actually made in Taiwan by a company called Technolink. I wrote a second time to Stanley, mentioning this information and asking for some answers. He replied back
saying it was old news. I wrote back asking some specific questions, but
have not received any reply. I waited for nearly 6 weeks, but it has been in vain.
I had also written to one Mr. James at Technolink. He replied and choose to use commercial interests not to tell me anything.
Though I have my own conclusions about these issues, I will step aside and allow members to make their own decision about this set of events. Please do so after reading the verbatim text of my mails.
I see that over the last few posts a number of members are interested in purchasing the Beresford DAC. I have some contact with Chennai Airport Customs and can work with them and some importers to see if we can get 10 pieces or so with minimal customs duty. Of course all the pieces will land in Chennai, and we have to courier each piece to the individual member.
Chennai is a comparitively easier port to import such stuff. If there is enough interest, I will make some enquiries and find out how we can import the DACs and how much duty will be levied.
I am enclosing below all the correspond I have had with Beresford and Technolink. I will be on the road till Sunday evening, and will be able to check only on Sunday evening.
Cheers

Dear Sirs:
My name is Venkat and I live in Chennai (nee Madras) in India. I am senior contributor to a Web based Forum called Hifi Vision (
India's Audio Video Home Theatre and Hi-Fi Discussion Forum). we have over 2000 members and over 100,000 hits a month.
Many members dsicuss their system configuration before purchasing their equipment. They also write to the forum for advice on imrpvoving the sound output of their systems. One common theme is the use of DAC for sound improvement.
Many of the members already have your TC-7510 DAC, and many more are discussing on purchasing it. I am also one person who is seriously considering purchasing the DAC.
I notice today that your web site has a flash news, 'Shipping MK6/4 with MOD21'. Can I have some details on this how it represents an improvement on the working of the DAC?
Thanking you,
yours sincerely,
CR Venkataraman

Hi Venkat,
I shall have a look at your forum and maybe even join.
The MOD21 is a change I did to the standard 44.1KHz anti-aliasing filter network. The DAC accepts inputs up to 96KHz, so the 44.1KHz filter limit is a restriction that is not good for perfect palyback of anything other than 16 bit CD audio. With the mOD21 you hear a lot more detail, especially on DVD audio tracks.
If you can find enough members who are interested in the DAC I can do you an export box that contains 12 pieces. The price to forum members for an export box is U$1320 plus shipping.
That is about U$110 each. Shipping to India is roughly U$150 for the box. The normal price of just one DAC is about U$150.
Regards,
STan

Dear Sirs,
I had sent you an email asking some details on your Mk6/4 Mod 21.

True hifi for all for music and cinema at your home theater - tc 7510 beresford.
There is another thread that shows that there is a Taiwanese company with an identical product and same model number?
Converters - Technolink Enterprise Co. - Audio amplifiers, phono preamp, Audio Mixer, A/V switcher, Phono accessories, Integrated Stereo Amplifier, Controllers, Audio controller, Speaker controller, Audio control, vedio control, Speaker volume contro
What is the relation? Can I please have some explanation?
Sincerely,

Mr Beresford:
I am afraid these answers are not enough for me. I will understand if you decide not to answer me, or think differently, but here goes:
1. The age of the post is not material. Whenever it happened, it did. And if so, why did it happen. What were the circumstances?
2. Regarding your relationship with Technolink, if you own part of the business, I have the following questions:
a) Why is the ownership/relationship not mentioned anywhere in both the web sites?
b) Who designs the 7510, If it is you, why is that not mentioned in the website of Technolink?
c) Why is it that the Technolink website has more details on the product than your website?
d) Are you importing a base product from Technolink and modifying it as many Modders do in the US? If so why is this not mentioned? Where is the product manufactured?
e) If you are serious about your business, are you ready to send a unit for evaluation by one of our members? Many of our members have extremely high end equipment. We can also use a member's service who has mid priced but serious equipment.
Contrary to many forums, HifiVision has serious members who use the advise they get here to go and buy equipment. And contrary to many members in any forum, I am very particular about what I write and what I say. This has become essential, as many members wait for me to say something, and I take that seriously.
Thanking you,
yours sincerely,
Venkat

Mr James:
My name is Venkat and I am writing to your from Chennai (Nee Madras) in India. I am senior adviser in a public forum called HiFiVision (
India's Audio Video Home Theatre and Hi-Fi Discussion Forum). Many of our members are looking at DAC for their systems, and we came across a DAC by a British company called Beresford. While checking on the product we came across a few points that disturbed us. One was that the Beresford product had the same model number and look as your product the Digital Converter TC-7510.
I worte to Mr. Stanley Beresford, the owner of Beresford in the UK.. He has written back (as shown below) that he is part owner of Technolink.
I would be obliged if you could confirm this so that I can inform the members about the relationship between Technolink and Beresford. If there is really a relationship, are the products manufactured in your factory and distributed by Mr. Beresford? Who designs these products?
I would appreciate a reply.
Thanking you,

Dear Venkat,
Thanks very much for your e-mail and your interest in our TC-7510.
Please be advised that Stanley Beresford is my cousin, and we do not disclose commercial information that could cause other companies to copy our products and sell fakes with our name on it.
I am in charge of production in Taiwan and design work is team work. Both Taiwan and UK are involved since our products are sold world wide and different countries have different taste and laws on electronic products on sale.
Generally, we in Taiwan take care of orders bigger than 500 pcs. For smaller quantities and technical support, Stanley Beresford in UK handles it. That is the way we do it, and it helps us to share the work load fairly.
Thanks and regards,
James
