I have bought Denon 1911 and have been playing with last few days. it is an excellent receiver but had to fiddle with few settings to get the best out of it (for me) I thought I should share with all

1. There was no PL or DTS neo music mode available with the default surround options. I found out that denon stores the preference for each input. when you select a particular input(for example Ipoddock) change the mode to Dolby PL first then press menu >> audio adjust >>surround parameter and then change the mode from Movie to music. now PL or DTS neo music will be avalable for that particular Input
2. out of the box it felt less powerfull as I had to move the volume to 60-70 to get some output. then I found that there is source level adjustment which is set 0 by default press menu with a particular input selected and then press menu >> input setup >> source level . increase the source level for input such as Ipod dock.
3. Audessey eq for stereo mode was too harsh and pure direct mode was too laid back. for input which has music devices such as Ipod dock or cd player you can set different equalizer settings. select the input > select sound mode as stereo and then press menu >> audio adjust >> audessey settings set multi eq as off
then go back and select tone adjust the tone.
set the restorer to mode 2 (HQ mode 3 increased the treble level too much for me, which was not even adjustable by tone settings)
now from menu >> manual setup >>audio setup >>
select custom setup and select the settings according to your speaker and subwoofer availability and increase the channel level as well

you can save these settings as quick setup press the quick select button(1, 2 ,3) on remote or receiver and hold it for few seconds. the settings such as master volume level and other parameters for a particular input will be saved.

Cheers!

Did you get the iPod dock free along with the amp? They've been advertising that in this month's AV magazines.

Thanks a lot vkhandelwal.

That was really helpful :yahoo:, I had installed mine just a few days back and still going through everything.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
