hi,

am a total noob when it comes to home theatre setup with my knowledge limited to reading a few articles here and there and visiting a couple of exhibitions.

but there are no limits to ambition :) so here is mine....
have a budget of 1.5L for a home theatre excl the display... have a couple of HD LCD TVs and a PS3 which doubles up as a DVD/Blue Ray player... so essentially need a A/V rxr with really good speakers.

basic requirement - lots of movies, gaming (PS3 as mentioned..) music at times but generally hindi old movie stuff...

had gone through a few systems :
a) Klispch RF 52 with an Onkyo A/V rxr
b) Bose Lifestyle V30 system without the DVD player.
c) Onkyo HT S990 (yet to listen to the system)
d) Onkyo HT S3100
e) Additionally had also seen ProAudio and Sonodyne systems

which should I atleast shortlist and start researching in terms of testing...

which system can i buy blindfolded!!!!

Thanks a lot guys

Praveen

If you feel you're a newbie..then why spend 1.5lakhs on an ht and waste your hard earned money for something your brain isnt trained yet to decipher, sound is something one enjoys not through the amount of money they spend on it but through the ability to enjoy the tonality and hear the distinct unique factors in a singers voice or melody of the instruments played.

Every persons brain is configured differently to receive the same data however to be able to understand this configuration so that you find a model/spec that delivers the same data most efficiently to your brain one has to train themselves and this requires some amount of dedicated time and effort auditioning a variety of systems across various price bands.

However since you have a decent budget and have other items to purchase, though your inner drive may want more of something specific like bass or medrange or high range, my blind suggestion to you is a very nice vfm 5.1 package - Cambridge audio sirocco 5.1 with a denon 1610 avr. This will run you 75k and unless your ears and mind is trained for it, you'll hardly be able to decipher the value for quality above this system than say a bose priced much higher. If you believe you are able to decipher the audio better then have a look at kef IQ series or jamo c6 series. these will run you about 1.5 lakhs with sub and avr I think.

well i have heard enough systems to make out "some" differences in the sound quality. by a "newbie" basically i meant that i do not have sufficient technical knowhow to understand/decipher a home theatre system.

one other thing i forgot is that i am constantly on the moving with no control over the kind of accommodation that i get... so i would prefer to have a system that can be "tuned" once i shift.

about the budget.. well after roaming around so much i thought that 1.5L is just about enough for such a sys, if there are better choices at a lower price.. who wouldn't want to go for them.

meanwhile thanks for the suggestion.. will definitely look them up... any suggestions about dealers in hyderabad?

thanks

Check with friend in here for a dealer who stocks AAD. Look for AAD on net. I heard a 5.1 speaker set + Denon 2310 ..it was very impressive.

These speakers were wall mounted mini monitor like (about an inch less than foot tall, in black finish) ...quite appealing on looks and sound). Price was 53k for the speakers. Price and size could really fool me but i was intrigued to listen to them and am glad i did.

Why i shared this, cause this shall keep your budget in check and yes, the sound was much better than most onkyos i hv heard till now.

The AV room size where i heard them was 16x10 ft. Quite an experience.
