From the title of the thread, it seems to be an Elektor Crescendo Millenium. That's an upgraded version of the Elektor Crescendo and Mini-Crescendo that were published in Elektor c.1980, and which were among the earliest DIY amps that used Hitachi MOSFETs.

The Crescendo had a reputation of instability and difficulty with reactive loads; perhaps the Millenium fixes those issues.

I suggest that you do a full-featured professional-quality PCB with solder-mask and silkscreen - it is more useful for DIYers that way. You can also offer a professional quality kit or partial kit with all the key parts, tested and matched - it will save a lot of time and effort for DIYers.

Can this soft start circuit be used with other amp kits too?

I have used this amp for years and it a GREAT, high powered amplifier.

Like most MOSFET designs, it is very wide bandwidth and if your circuit layout is a 'rats nest' instability is in-evitable.

This is the ONLY Amp that i have come accross that will deliver a super clean square wave at 10 KHz and full Power output at 100 KHz ( Dont even TRY that on a bipolar amp, the testing alone for rated output at 100 KHz will kill most bipolar amps. ( Full, wide bandwidth output is a pointer for the excellent phase linearity and minimal phase shift over the audio band).

Subjectively this amp is detailed but the sound can get 'hard' and aggressive if used with speakers or a system that is already edgy.

GREAT Value ... but it will cost if you use a good transformer.

Remember to add a small capacitor accross each DC supply rail fuse or better still ( a DIY luxury ) solder the fuses instead of a fuse holder. It will clear 100 KHz hash ...

Linuxguru, while what you suggest is great, please remember that these PCBs are being offered practically FREE.... No point in asking for extras on a charitable offer

yes you can use the soft start with any other amp.
but you need to take care of FUSE amp. rating according to your Trafo.

Yes you are right that many DIYers are willing to sell their designed PCB which makes assembly much easier for new DIYers & saves cost and time both.

Yeah, I have that Audio special issue with me even today, the one from 1980s. But never got a chance to DIY, although it always looked very promising in terms of performance.

Thank you buddy. Hope they deliver by Sunday. I'm leaving for my hometown for a few days on Mon morning. Hope he doesn't turn up on Monday.:sad:

BTW, could you PM me the BOM. Would they be available in India or I would have to source it from Parts Express / Digikey / Mouser?

Capt, the BOM and circuit are in the link in post #8 in this
thread.

The soft start board BOM is not separately given, but you
can get the component list out of the schematic. Nothing
exotic as far as I can see, so you should have no issue finding them
locally.
