I am planning to build a pair of 3 way bookshelves. As I am new to DIY Audio I want to get drivers which are not so expensive and I have heard that these two Indian brands are good and also they do not dug up deep holes in your pockets.

Plz kolkata members help me out ASAP.

Thanks in Advance

1.why 3 way?
2. why bookshelf?
3. what are your budgets/space constraints?
4.what sort of music do you like?

1. Why 3 Way - 3 way because there are three drivers each for a frequency band and with a well tuned crossover it can be far more accurate than a two way. And due to the fact that I am making my own crossover with some help from diyaudiovideo.com I am pretty sure that it will turn out to be very accurate. :ohyeah:

2. Bookshelf Design looks good are easy to build and they resembles those professional studio monitors. Though if there is a much simpler design than bookshelf that also cut costs I am ready to go with it voluntarily.

3. There is not any major space constraints. And for the budget I am not on a very High Budget that is why I am preferring brands like Dainty because in this forums somewhere I had read that these woofers are really good and are very cheap (somewhat 10" woofer cost south of 850 and dome tweeters cost between 70 ~ 200 INR). ;)

4. I like Progressive House Musics, Trapstep, Dubstep, and other EDMs. and some techno too. ;) :clapping:     :ohyeah: :yahoo: :D

Plz Reply Soon...

Thanks in Advance. :signthankspin:

3 ways are generally too tough to engineer. Better to start with a well established 2 way design. A well designed 2 way sounds much better than a crappy 3 way.

In chandni, you might be able to find some yj audio/mj audio/Ahuja/sweeton drivers (hope i mentioned the brand namesk correctly). However diyaydiocart has some nice drivers. You can check with them as well.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with any brand.

Hello sir,
Thanks a lot :signthankspin: for the advice sir, now I am changing my mind from 3 way to a well built 2 way  . I do not know the brands you mentioned but yesterday I went to Chandni and saw some other brands (cant recall the names). But the real problem is when asked about the T/S parameters the shopkeeper was clueless  . And these do come in handy when it comes to the box building. :(

Also do you know anyone who will build A speaker box on my given size?

And one more question I wanted to ask that what size, wattage and impedance of the tweeter to be used with a Woofer say of 10" 8 Ohms 70 Watts/140 watts max.

AFAIK, you won't be able to get any TS params for chandni drivers. In order to get that either

Buy drivers from sites like diyaydiocart
Or
Measure the TS params by yourself using professional equipments

Another important aspect of driver is sensitivity. It's more important than watt value IMHO.

One more suggestion: don't mention the word 'TS params' in chandni. They might treat you as alien. :)

New Gemini radio might have some drivers.

One more thing- what amp do you have in mind?

decide which sort of trance you like better - Dubstep needs deep, low boomy bass, while other EDM like trance needs fast and agile bass - and the character of the speakers need to be different to suit either

Sir, I guess for deep, low boomy bass I have to have a ported box. Which is somewhat complicated for a beginner (or a total noob to be precise :p ) like me. So I'd rather will stick to a sealed box and will be more than happy to hear trap and trance in a well built sealed box rather than listening to dubstep via a crappy tuned ported system.

This is the reason I diverted from 3way to 2 way as Mr. Biswas wrote and I quote:

You don't need professional equipment to measure T/S parameters.

Impedance Measurement

In the following Image what does it mean by sound card inputs?

Is this means the Line Input Port? (the blue one?)

Sorry for noob Question :p

Also I do not know the concept of Sense Resistors. What are they and How to use them?

uh, I think measuring TS parameters may be a bit too much for you at this stage.

Next question
What's your budget
Do you have a carpenter handy who can work on the enclosures?

Good Speakers in Cheap that is why the preferred brand was Dainty as they are good as well as cheap.

and yes I do have a carpenter in handy who will work on the enclosures for me :ohyeah:

Forget about measuring the TS Parameters.... Just Continue why you were asking for a handy carpenter and budget.... :indifferent14:

Continue this thread I am left on a loose end....

Soundcard inputs = Line in

Rsense = a resistor of known and measured value. 100 Ohm 1W will do. It's mentioned in the article.
